Children of Bodom (pronunciation (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/eb/Pronunciation-Children_of_Bodom.ogg) (help (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Media_help)ˇinfo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Pronunciation-Children_of_Bodom.ogg))) is a metal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_music) band from Espoo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espoo%2C_Finland), Finland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finland). There is some contention regarding the band's genre classification, but in general the band's musical style can be described as a cross between melodic death metal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melodic_death_metal) and power metal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_metal) (with some concluding this tag only includes their earlier works). Their name was derived from the Lake Bodom murders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Bodom_murders).
The lyrics of Children of Bodom's songs are written in English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language) and are most often concerned with the subjects of death (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death)/the grim reaper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grim_reaper), personal struggles, war (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War) and the Lake Bodom murders. Recent albums have seen a shift to more antagonistic lyrics (songs such as "You're Better Off Dead" and "In Your Face") and a more straight-forward heavy metal style.

Truthfully, this is a mixed bag for me. I fucking love their first three albums. Every song from those 3 are great. Their live album rules. Their 4th album was good, but had shifted in a slightly crappier direction. From then on, they've come out with crap, which is sad considering Something Wild, Hatebreeder, Follow The Reaper, Hate Crew Deathroll and their live album were so great.

If I could rate their good shit alone, they'd be a 10, but I have to give them a 7.

Hatebreeder is one of my favorite metal albums in existence. Alexi Laiho is pure greatness.

I think people are getting messed up by Clox bumping an old rate thread. This one is still open.
