Stone Temple Pilots (abbreviated STP) was an American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) rock band in the 1990s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990s) and early 2000s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000s), consisting of Scott Weiland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Weiland) (vocals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_vocals)), brothers Robert (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_DeLeo) (bass guitar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_guitar), vocals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backing_vocals)) and Dean DeLeo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_DeLeo) (guitar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar)), and Eric Kretz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Kretz) (drums (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drumkit), percussion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percussion)).
STP's five albums have sold over 17 million copies in the United States alone and over 30 million albums worldwide. The band had fifteen top ten singles on the Billboard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_magazine) rock charts, including six #1's, and one #1 album on the pop charts (1994's Purple (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_%28album%29)). STP won the 1994 Grammy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Awards) for "Best Hard Rock Performance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_Hard_Rock_Performance)" for their song "Plush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plush_%28song%29)". STP was also ranked at #40 by VH1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VH1) on the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock list. In addition to their original material, they have also covered (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cover_version) songs by Led Zeppelin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Led_Zeppelin), David Bowie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bowie), Pink Floyd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Floyd), The Doors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Doors), and The Beatles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles). These bands were some of the groups cited by the band as its influences.
In 2003, the band released the greatest hits compilation Thank You (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thank_You_%28Stone_Temple_Pilots_album%29). Around this time, band members began going their separate ways. Since the band's demise, Weiland has moved on to become the frontman of Velvet Revolver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velvet_Revolver) with former members of Guns N' Roses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns_N%27_Roses). The DeLeo brothers formed the band Army of Anyone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_of_Anyone) with Richard Patrick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Patrick), of the band Filter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_%28band%29). Army of Anyone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_of_Anyone) released its self-titled debut album in 2006. Kretz founded Bomb Shelter Studios in Los Angeles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles).
