Maybe a good mania this year. I mean Smackdown looks like it's going big this year with Edge in a little stable with the Major Brothers, Y2J, Jeff Hardy, Mr. Kennedy, HBK, Randy Orton, Triple H, pretty much all in the title contention. Damn.
Also TNA does need a big show, like wrestlemania, not just bound for glory because that's just the same as every ppv.

I am honestly considering coming back and watching wrestling again. I've taken a several month break, and in that time the things I've read make me feel like they might be getting back on the right track.

It seems like WWE is finally attempting to establish some new faces, (Kennedy, both Hardys, MVP), and at the same time try and establish some true main eventers like Orton and Edge.

I honestly like just about everything they're doing right now. It's no 98-01, but they're doing just about the best they can with the current setup and rosters

How long have they been on this hot streak? I heard from some folks that almost everything after RAW XV has been solid.

Wrestling has a ton of potential right now, but will it live up to it?

Every Mania's always special.
Or, at least, every year, this sorta shit starts coming up.

Well besides the disappointment the IWC felt when Cena wouldn't lose the belt, I thought 2007 was a good year for WWE, quality wise. Some good matches, good feuds. Everything Cena did wasn't bad, but it wasn't always good. I thought he had some well-booked feuds, and good matches (even though he couldn't lose one).
Maybe 2008 can be better than 2007 if when Cena comes back, he enters as a supporting wrestler, not the ONLY wrestler. I mean, Orton's champion but he's not constantly on RAW every other segment, and he is booked to where he shows vulnerability. Sorry going off topic, but yeah. I thought 2007 was a good year, and hopefully '08 can follow it up even better.

This mirrors my thoughts exactly... except that afterwards I wave my hand and go "NAAAAHHHH" and laugh and eat pizza or something.

There's defo the potential there to get things back on track, I wouldn't say 2008 has the potential to be as good as 10 years prior. But if booked right I can see 2008 and 2009 being the lead-up years to the next boom-period.
This is wishful thinking. But yeah, COULD happen. Cena and Lashley only let-downs though. If they're both if the main-event scene I can accept that but no way will I be able to stand seeing them belt-hogging all year round.
