The One

I'm flattered but I'm no where near the biggest fan around here. I loved old school NWA and am a fanboy of The Clique (oh and I guess I'm the biggest Lucha fan by default), but that's about it. Guys like Rob or some others who know the world of wrestling, where I can barely stomach Japan or European crap.

TOVO Fact: Tovo loves Mongolian BBQs.

Ok serious reasons why I think I'm a super fan (by no means an achievement in retrospect)

I have done the following:

Travelled across the Atlantic ocean 3 times for Wrestlemania (got my ass on tv because of it)

Have seen countless house shows whenever they have been in this country

Meet a huge number of wrestlers got pics and autographs, the picks of the bunch being:

A cane signed by sandman that was used against Steve Corino
An Owen Hart autograph
Bret Hart Auto Graph
A WWF championship belt signed by Foley (who I’ve met twice)
Photo with HBK
I have a Jeff Hardy autp graph/doodle, he did art on all his pics, this one has his with angel wings and a sword going in his heart
Angle Autograph
Rey Autograph
Chris Ben who
There’s loads more, but that’s the highlight list

--

I’ve trained to become a wrestler, and now help promote shows, so I know what goes into a match. From doing that I’ve meet:

Jake the Snake
The Honkey Tonk Man

Got to work in a rumble and did a few minutes with Colt Cabana

--

Being a fan isn’t just about how much you watch, it’s about how far your willing to go with it. I think I’ve gone further than anyone else on here, from the stories I’ve seen.

I like Japanese stuff and whatever lucha I see but I don't have the time or money to follow everything now. My following wrestling comes down to whatever I read in the Observer or on the F4W boards and if I think I will like something, I'll check it out.

And I don't exactly know how you rank fans but there are more guys on here a lot more passionate about wrestling than myself. You are probably one of them pal.

I'll throw my name in this. I'm that guy who was terrorizing WWE PPV's in 2004 with my "HAL" sign.

<img src="http://b4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/00230/47/88/230128874_l.jpg">

I've attended 23 WWE PPV's and also will be attending this Sunday's Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 24, attended numerous RAW's, Smackdown!'s, and house shows, met numerous wrestlers over the years, been to a couple of original ECW shows, been going to ROH shows for about a year and a half, attended their first PPV and the recent PPV they taped at The Manhattan Center.

I'm sure I'm not close to being the biggest overall fan here but I like to think I'm pretty big.

Merthyr is a shithole, but like most shitholes, it isn't as bad as it's made out to be. Some good drinking holes there. It's the sicknote capital of Britain though.

I haven't had the pleasure yet, although I've been in communication with Karl Griffiths (caiman) for a while, I was supposed to train with them years ago when they run sessions in Cardiff, not sure if they still do or not.

CSL
01-25-2008, 06:10 AM
Caiman's a top bloke. I think they run sessions in Merthyr nowadays (not entirely sure though) They had a session with Eugene last night which I'd loved to have gone to, apparently it was great.

The doors open at 7pm:

NWA: Wales
Burleigh Academy
Newport Llanthewy Road
Newport
NP20 4LD

Adult tickets are £7.50

That's all I got, I only know 2 other guys on the card, so I can't really tell you how it's going to be as it's my first time wrestling for them.

I'm going to be working with Alex Steele, who used to post on here as King Jericho, we've wrestled at least 20 times now, so I think it will be a tight match, come along if you can and feel free to give me any feedback

how the fuck would you get a managing gig on the british wrestling scene?

Dave Youell
02-04-2008, 10:31 AM
how the fuck would you get a managing gig on the british wrestling scene?
To be a manager:

Get involved with a school, sucks I know, but you still need to, most schools in this country are attached to a promotion, so get in there, pay your dues, even if you’re a manager you are going to need to know how to bump

Just let the trainer/promoter that you want to be a manger and not a wrestler, you will get on shows a lot faster than a trainee wanting to wrestle.

The other way is to be-friend a wrestler and convince him to manage for you.

So basically you become a manager the same way you become a wrestler or a ref, get your foot in the door and work your ass off. Always shut up and listen to your peers, and take everything they give you and come back asking for more.

The easiest way to get on a show is announcing, if you have a decent voice you can get on shows without doing all that stuff
