Right now there is Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Party 8. Mario Party 8 is kinda meant to be played by 4 people at the same time tho (party game), so if he's got siblings or a bunch of friends, that's the way to go. Super Mario Galaxy is apparently really good, but I haven't played it myself so I can't comment. Videos I've seen remind me of Mario 64, which was crazy fun, tho.

Although technically not a Mario game, there is also WarioWare: Smooth Moves. Crazy party game. Lots of fun alone or in a group, but eventually gets pretty hard.

Just remembered Super Paper Mario as well, but watching my brother play, it looks like it would be mad hard for a 10 year old, although lots of fun.

Seems pretty sweet. Def 1 player. Mario Galaxy is most likely your best bet.

The Wii should come with 1 wii remote and wii sports (a kind of mini game demo disc), so I suggest you get some rechargeable batteries. If he has wireless internet, he can get updates and stuff for his wii and buy games from the Wii ware store.

Also, the Wii doubles as a Gamecube, so you can buy him old gamecube games and stuff too, but he will need a gamecube controller and a gamecube memory card.

I just got Super Mario Galaxy this past Monday and I highly endorse it. There is a two player option, which is apparently really cool, but I don't have a second WiiMote to try it.

Rechargeable Batteries are definately a must for the WiiMote. I can't stress that enough...especially after several battery changes.

Get an SD card...1gb should do nicely. There's a SlideShow feature in which you can take pics directly off your PC and view them on the Wii. You can also play Youtube vids, as Wii doies support .flv file playback. Of course, they didn't include an MP3 player in the darned thing (you can have an Mp3 run while running a slideshow though), but the new Wii's support .aac file playback. I think there may be a firmware update in the works to give this functionality to current systems...I hope anyways.
