View Full Version : Alright, I'm going to say it...

Even though I'm not a big fan of the guy, I hope Jeff Hardy wins the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. I believe it should be Matt Hardy who gets the big World Title win first, but being unbiased for a second, the WWE does have a great opportunity on their hands with Jeff Hardy.
He doesn't need to be WWE Champion for long, but the benefits on even a short reign would be there:
1. It allows the WWE to go with a surprising Royal Rumble winner. Jeff Hardy winning the WWE Championship is feel-good enough that a heel can win the Rumble Match, and it's surreal enough that anything afterwards could be seen as possible. Hardy winning the WWE Championship would be more unusual than, say, Mr. Kennedy winning the WWE Championship.
If Randy Orton was WWE Champion, and Mr. Kennedy won the Royal Rumble, then things are a lot more depressing. Jeff Hardy winning basically opens the floodgates to WrestleMania possibilities.
2. It creates a star. I get really pissed off for the WWE dropping the ball with Matt Hardy in 2005, Chris Jericho in 2005, Chris Jericho now and even fucking Rhyno in 2002. The WWE have the opportunity in front of them to say "This is Jeff Hardy, and he can win the big one, and anything can happen." If they say "Randy Orton wins again." Bleh. No good comes of that, because I'm fairly certain that Orton won't even be heading into WrestleMania as WWE Champion.
3. I'd argue that Jeff Hardy is a bigger draw than Randy Orton. I'd also argue that he is a lot more interesting to watch than Randy Orton (who is wrestling's equivalent to paint drying). Let's say Jeff is the guy to carry the WWE Championship into WrestleMania: all the match possibilities seem great. Jeff Hardy vs. Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho and even Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H to a degree. Shouldn't the WWE care about who is going to draw more for their company? If I had to bet on either Hardy or Orton, I'd go Hardy.
I've always been keen for a miracle run heading into WrestleMania. Either a "fluke Royal Rumble winner", or "fluke Champion," on top of their world, and technically the world of everyone else, but cannot buy the respect they deserve for it, because no one ever envisioned them there.
Besides, if Jeff Hardy makes it to World Title status, Matt Hardy returns and looks on par with that. It'd help out both of them.

What do you want to happen Xero?
Frankly I would have preferred Hunter to take the title at the Rumble.
I can see Jeff Hardy as WWE champion. I can't nor do I want to see him holding it at WrestleMania at this point. In a year or two, maybe, but they can't put it on him yet. A mid-summer run would be better.

It won't happen.
Well, obviously.
If Triple H were challenging, I'd be pulling for a Randy Orton victory. We do not need to see Triple H end a third of Orton's three title reigns.
Summer is usually the slowest period for the WWE, so I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea for Jeff to get a run then. I think I'd be more inclined to slip him the belt between the Rumble and WrestleMania for a few weeks, and have him serve as a transitional champion.

If Jeff is going to win the belt, it'd be best for him to chase it instead of winning it right away. I wouldn't even mind him winning the belt at Mania. Jeff is always considered to be the underdog who will never win the big one, so why not go with that? Make it into a storyline. I don't care.
It's crazy how I wouldn't mind Jeff as champion. I never would have said this at any time prior to November.

Its whats called "good build-up". I barely recognize it myself these days. It is quite subjective, but Jeff's is the cleanest most comfortable push in a while.

I don't want him to win it because A) he won't keep it and B) he'll probably never win it again. There is no need to let "former world champion" follow somebody around who is just gonna get stuck in mid-card hell.
Jeff is probably the most over guy on Raw, so it would make sense from a business point of view. Why not have him win it? Give to the guy with talent rather than the wall

I REALLY want him to win it, I haven’t wanted someone to take the title this much since Benoit at mania 20.
I know it’s not going to happen, I just hope Jeff puts on a really good outing to put him in the good books for future consideration

I honestly can see Jeff winning the title and rumble then losing it to HHH or HBK at Mania. Cause they love building face v face matches at Mania now a days.

The fact that we allt hink it wont happen, may cause WWE to make a last minute decision that makes it happen. i got a feeling jeff may cause an upset at the rumble, then orton wins it straight back at no way out, and they can feud after WM.

If he does win, it would be a pop on the scale of when Foley won the title

Yea, I don't see Jeff as a champion. It will be short lived if he ever gets the belt. A babyface champ is a tough act to take on. You have to be able to give a good promo to have longevity and Jeff can't do that right now. However, if they book the angle right, you can surely make Jeff a 2 month Champ.

Yeah, that's all I think it would be. And Jeff has not been shocking on the mic, recently. He's showing improvement. I mean, he's better than Bobby Lashley, probably.

That's exactly my thinking. They don't even need to have Orton win the belt back. Just have Triple H or Shawn Michaels, whoever is carrying the belt, do it at No Way Out.

I'm almost not objected to that right now just because I feel that if they wait on Hardy, he'll lose steam. I really hope they do some kind of finish that keeps Hardy strong if he has to lose. Good news is Orton seems like a Honky Tonk Man kind of champion, where he'll get the win by the skin of his teeth. Usually from a DQ, or by some kind of luck. For example, Orton and Hardy both get knocked out for some reason during a match and his Orton's hand lands on Hardy for the 3

lol if he no shows his drug deal
Honestly, though, in a weird sort of way, because the WWE is sort of a villain in my head these days, Jeff Hardy no-showing WrestleMania would make me mark-out. It'd be interesting to see what they scraped together in place of Hardy's absence.

Frankly, I think he pull off a one month reign and not be hurt as long as he doesn't get majorly depushed afterwards. He could be the guy who hangs around the upper/middle and main event scenes, back and forth, and establishes himself as the guy who does at least stand a chance against the big boys.
And a couple of years from now, or near the end of the career, give him another, longer run.
Is it fair to say that it's MAKE IT OR BREAK IT TIME for Jeff Hardy?

If they wait too long he could end up like Kennedy, they've missed the boat now.

In a way, honestly. I think he's being given this main event mini-push to see if he can carry it through without pulling an RVD and watching it go up in smoke.

Well that's exactly it. Listening to RAW this past week, Jeff Hardy's reaction after he hit the Twist of Fate on Randy Orton was very real. It was the closest thing I have heard to a roar on WWE TV in a long time. Then Hardy won, and the crowd went quiet again, and JR and King could not keep the excitement up in their voices, either. While on the topic of King, he actually really helped the moment of Jeff Hardy pinning Orton. He sounded genuinely caught up in the moment, and if he was a heel, it would have been perfect.
I think the fans know it is a breath of fresh air, and they are hungry for it, somewhat. They can't break out of their trances for long, but a Jeff Hardy WWE Title reign might be able to take some steps towards that.
Fuck, the man is making a fan out of me, which has been hard for him to do. I've always been very "good riddance" on the guy, like Matt a whole lot more, and think that Hardy gets pushed way too much for his tendency to jump off ladders. He's certainly growing as a performer.
Personally I think they should book Jeff to win the title at Mania.

He needs to face Cena for the title, just so I can go to an event with "If Cena wins, we stare at our hands for an hour" sign.

unfortunelty he didnt hear me mutter under my breath "yeah, the day the raw rating drops to a new low"

Hey we live in an era where Great Khali has been top man of a brand, Bobby Lashley is a Main Eventer, and Viscera is one of the company's top monsters. Trust me, a Jeff Hardy run, even if handled terrible, still is better than the average shit they dump on our screens. Honestly, Jeff hasn't been getting bigger than usual pops lately, it's that everyone else's pops have died WAY down. If Jeff is one of the only people left from the heyday who still gets the crowd pumped, by all means, use that.
