Slipknot (sometimes typeset as SlipKnoT in imitation of the logo) are an American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) nu metal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nu_metal) band from Des Moines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Des_Moines%2C_Iowa), Iowa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa). While the group has gone through several line-up changes, the band has remained unchanged since 1999 consisting of Sid Wilson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Wilson), Joey Jordison (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joey_Jordison), Paul Gray (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Gray_%28Slipknot%29), Chris Fehn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Fehn), Jim Root (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Root), Craig Jones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Jones), Shawn Crahan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Crahan), Mick Thomson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_Thomson) and Corey Taylor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corey_Taylor).
Slipknot's line-up allows the band to create a densely layered sound featuring a typical heavily down-tuned guitar set-up (lead, rhythm, and bass guitars), two percussionists in addition to the primary drummer, and electronics (samplers and turntables). The band's sound has been described as "a threshing machine devouring a military drum corps." The band also incorporates diverse vocal styles, typically involving growled vocals, melodic singing and even rapping while the lyrics generally follow a very aggressive tone.
Slipknot's root lie back as far as 1992 and eventually the band formed in November 1995. The band underwent many line-up changes before releasing their highly successful debut album Slipknot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slipknot_%28album%29) in 1999. Their popularity rose with this release, and they started become a popular nu metal band. Since which time they have released two other albums, Iowa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_%28album%29) and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vol._3:_%28The_Subliminal_Verses%29). Slipknot are expected to release a fourth album (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slipknot%27s_4th_Studio_Album) in 2008.

Same, except they don't suck as hard as Nunder when he goes down on his Koalas.

1. They are the reverse of the Beatles, in that anyone voting above a 1 is clearly inbred.

1. I feel like they try too hard to act so anti-politics and "controversial", with songs that could make a baby raccoon claw its own face off

Actually, I'd up the rating if they included that as part of the stage show.

I'm not a big fan of the "tune so low that you sound like ass" sound that became so trendy. I'm not a big fan of shock for the sake of shock, and I'm not huge on a bunch of assholes who can barely play relatively straightforward music. But if they could do something like that....

I used to love them back in the day so I am a bit partial so I will give them a 6.

Its kinda rough to listen to their old stuff nowadays although Corey's band Stone Sour sounds really good.
