View Full Version : The Undertaker

I honestly think he is better now,(in his mid-40s) than he ever was. I've been a huge Taker mark for years, and I've always enjoyed his work, but without being biased towards him, I just think his matches are better, he moves quicker, he has a better moveset, etc.

Is this because for years, Undertaker's character restricted him from performing in such mannerisms? Or do you completely disagree and think that Taker's bad.

Thoughts?

I liked him more "back in the day."

I don't even care if he's a better wrestler these days, because he does nothing before me besides nostalgia (and even less and less of that).

i liked him more when he first debut in the wwe, all he did during matches were choke guys and then tombstone them.

I liked him better as Mean Mark Callous in WCW, no silly dead man gimmick just black gloves and a heart punch

I like him better now than I did from 00-05. Not as much as the 98-99 taker though, and I never saw anything before that.

But I do agree with you, he seems to have improved in recent years with age which is unusual.

Him and HBK, both old and still great.

I'm cool with Taker.

Technically, I think he is very good for his age, as his lazy-ass schedule allows him time to rest his body and shit. He's working for his space at the top of the roster. That being said, the man is still really overrated, and for my money, has one of the most ridiculous gimmicks in the WWE.

Right, he's a zombie who wears a leotard and wears gloves with "Primetime" written on them. He's obviously Satan himself. I liked the idea of him returning to the Dead Man gimmick heading into WrestleMania XX, because I was hoping for a return to the awesome Ministry of Darkness music, and just going to a less generic look. Basically what he is now is the American Badass with a new hat.

I'd be able to take Taker a whole lot more seriously if he changed his gimmick to something less retarded.

He's a lot better in the ring now than he was anytime pretty much before ehenver he started being good in the ring, but I still liked him a lot more in the 90s than I do now. In fact, I don't give a shit about the Undertaker anymore.

I would mark out if The Undertaker came out in a hot pink leotard one day, and said he's had a life changing experience, and wants to be known as "The Overgiver." He then Chokeslams dictatorship in Africa, and brings back Brother Love as his manager.

Mr. Nerfect
01-06-2008, 06:16 PM
Yeah, it's stupid, but it would entertain me a lot more than anything else he does. I won't make too much of an argument for it, but I believe comedy is one way wrestling can evolve. It being fake is pretty much the biggest insult non-fans throw at it. In my opinion, the best way to overcome that is to say "Yeah, we're fake, and if you don't get that it's meant to be that way, you're the stupid one."

It'd be better if his "Life changing experience" was a sex change and he started wrestling under "Mean Miss Calloway."

I remember when Diamond Dallas Page was cutting those promos about being a new him, which eventually led to his "It's a good thing!" gimmick, and a poster here saying they expected the camera to go move downwards, and reveal that DDP had breasts.

Seriously, though. Has the WWE ever done something as drastic as the change you jokingly proposed for The Undertaker? If Taker came out, claimed he was now a raging homosexual (or a woman), and started getting enjoyment out of the "69er Piledriver", and even won the Women's Championship if they claim he was the later, what would the reaction be? People would be pissed, think it is ridiculous, no doubt, but I think good could potentially come out of it. I'd watch if I heard The Undertaker had changed his name and was now sexually confused - or "finally himself", depending on whether or not you believe his character :shifty: - just for the sheer stupidness of it all.

It'd be very similar to that episode of Futurama when Bender joined Ultimate Robot Fighting, and went from being a hero to becoming the "Gender Bender" overnight. I demand a "Gender Bender" character for The Undertaker.

Seriously, this is my Hindu World Order: The Undertaker should start camping it up, whilst remaining exactly the same in the ring. He adds a sexual taunt to the Tombstone, and cuts promos about how if homosexuality is a sin, then he really was the Prince of Darkness all along. He begins to get different costumes, and just flamboyantly plays the same 6'10, 305lbs monster. The only difference between him and the current Taker, is that this one is meant to be gay.

It'd be the only way to get Taker over as a heel. To completely take The Undertaker character he made iconic, and turn it on its head. He still does stuff with the lightning, but after he does it, elephant balloons are released, or something. The heat on the WrestleMania streak would be extraordinary. This guy who acts like the biggest fruit has the greatest WrestleMania record in history, and whoever ends it is going to get over as a massive babyface.

Remember when Billy & Chuck had their wedding, and they managed to get all this publicity because it was a gay wedding? The legendary Undertaker going Dumbledore could get the WWE some similar media attention.

I don't care if it ruins his character forever, and alters the legacy of an iconic professional wrestler, I want my Gender Bender Taker.

It was definitely a great heel turn when The Undertaker was cutting that promo when Vince McMahon was trying to get JR to kiss his ass, and Taker says that he's been kissing Vince's ass in some form for years. And then Taker just asks "JR, do you think you're better than me?" And JR was just like "Oh shit."

And the interaction between him and Kane would be priceless.

Kane: It's a surprise, but man, you know you could have told me.

Taker: Then why don't you return my calls?

Kane: Well, mainly it's the whole setting me on fire as a child thing.

I have really, really enjoyed Undertaker's matches since his return in 2000. His style has changed a lot, but it's changed with the times, which is a good thing.

He's a master at squeezing all of the juice out of a big spot. His matches are often standard, but when he hits that flying clothesline or does that plancha over the top rope, it really means something and gets a nice pop.

Taker also has a sort of MMA style that you can see. I've always been a huge fan of his use of the Triangle Choke in his matches, and his punches/jabs are some of the best looking in the industry. Taker really understands ring psychology and how to feed off of a crowd. He really is a master in the ring, and that's the primary reason why he's lasted so long on top.

He just need to be the heel satanic lord of darkness and the best way to do it is to destroy Rey and cricifix him. That way every kid will turn on him.

I think he's better now than when he first came in. Anyone remember any of his matches around 1991 or so, the majority of the match seemed to be him choking the opponent and getting told off numerous times, then we got "old school" and a tombstone. From around 92\93 onwards he started using more "wrestling" moves though.

Actually, this would be awesome. My favourite "serious" Taker suggestion. A feud between Taker and Rey would actually be the most entertaining program from either man in a long time, in my opinion.

A WrestleMania match where Rey Mysterio found himself the underdog against The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak would be one of the more fun routes I can imagine the WWE going. Not by probability, but just by possibility.

I have to say, I like The Undertaker now, but I enjoyed watching him back in 1998. I feel his character was better. So to me he was more enjoyable. When I think of The Undertaker I do not think of matches he had in the past 2 years, I think of the matches he had in the years 1997-2002

While i enjoyed his character much more in the past his in ring work is much better now than it has ever been so I do think that there is an argument to be made that he is better now than he has ever been.
