Santana is a flexible number of musicians accompanying Carlos Santana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Santana) since the late 1960s. Just like Santana himself, the band is known for helping make Latin rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_rock) famous in the rest of the world.
The band was formed in 1966 in San Francisco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco). The first members were Tom Frazier (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tom_Frazier&action=edit) (guitar), Mike Carabello (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mike_Carabello&action=edit) (percussion), Rod Harper (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rod_Harper&action=edit) (drums), Gus Rodriguez (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gus_Rodriguez&action=edit) (bass) and Gregg Rolie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregg_Rolie) (keyboard, vocal). In the following years (and decades) the members of the group changed frequently for a number of reasons, and from 1971 to 1972 there was a brief separation between the group and Santana.
In 1998, the group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_%26_Roll_Hall_of_Fame), with Carlos Santana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Santana), Jose Chepito Areas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Areas), David Brown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Brown_%28musician%29), Mike Carabello (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mike_Carabello&action=edit), Gregg Rolie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregg_Rolie) and Michael Shrieve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Shrieve) being honored.
