This opens Friday, and I'm gonna watch this crazy bastard tomorrow.
There are fan art sketches of the monster made after watching the movie all over the net, and it looks fucking berzerk.
My manager gave me the poster of the movie, and if the movie sucks, I'm gonna eBay that shit Thursday.
After all, I've still got my Dark Knight poster to fall back on.

I didn't care enough to try to hunt that one down. It was more than two pages back, so I didn't bother using the search.
So is it a big lion or something because the dude's yelling "it's a big lion!! It's destroying the whole city..." or something like that.

I read an review for the film online today and they said that by the end of the movie you do get a full body clear as day detailed look at what this big monster is....they also went on to say that the monster looked cheesy and shouldnt have been shown like that.
The film got a 8/10 rating and was said to really make the people watching be in fear. I cant wait. I already got my tickets for after work on Friday.

Just got back from seeing it...
It was an awesome movie experience...
People were pissed at the ending though but I loved it.
I definently think this is one of those movies that is better to catch at the theaters with the surround sound. I dont think it will stand up to just watching it at home on a TV screen. And from what Ive heard the excitement doesnt work the 2nd time around. Some of the people I was with at the movie saw it a couple days ago at an advance screening and they said that it wasnt that great the second time around. You begin to notice the movies flaws.
In the end...Awesome movie that everyone should definently see...but while its at theaters.

It's a distribution and production company. http://imdb.com/company/co0043571/

Can anyone say Sequel???
According to various sources...at a screening last night that Matt Reeves was in attendance for he was asked about the possibility of a sequel. He said that if this one does well chances are they will make another one. When asked about how the story would work for that film he said that "Perhaps this group of people were not the only people filming that night?"

There was that one soldier with a gaping hole in his midsection with somebody saying "We got another bite" or something. I assume that you 'burst' after a little while. Don't think it was the military's doing, with the guy saying she was already done with.

Well, now I just don't know what to think. All you guys think this movie rocks. Everyone I know in real life hated it.
I loved how the ending tied it all together with the first day. You saw the monster falling into the water and then you could see the rocket ship thing in the background that was also shown while they were on the bridge, before he panned over to the Statue of Liberty.
Very intense but I don't know how well it would be the second time.
Nowhere Man
01-18-2008, 11:32 PM
I loved it, but I really didn't like the way the monster looked. It felt like they were trying too hard to make it look 'different' IMO.
Anyway, the important thing is that it scared the shit out of me, and it left me wanting more. And as frustrating as the movie's non-ending is, it was probably more effective than just bashing us over the head with a contrived origin.
Thumbs up.

Yea I will give this movie a large amount of credit in one area...
It kept me up most of last night wondering about certain things about that monster that we may never find out.
What I would really like to see and what would be great in that JJ Abrahms type of way is if they now did an action movie based off this where its some army guy trying to stop the monster. Sure the movie would suck but I think it would be awesome if you could see in some scenes the characters from the movie in the background. Perhaps the lead character in the action movie is that guy that comes out of nowhere at that one moment with the rocket launcher.
I dont know...I just wish I had some answers because its been fuckin with my head all night.

Anyone else been following the ARG side of this?
It really did nothing for the story, but it kind of puts you in the world where this takes place, and its still going, so in the weeks and months coming up to the dates of the movie will give more info.
FACT ONE: It Came From Japan Producer J.J. Abrams took his son to a toy store in Japan and saw rows and rows of Godzilla toys. Feeling that the U.S. lacked a giant monster of its own, he decided to a make his own creature feature that would be filmed entirely through the point-of-view of the people on the ground, running for their lives.
FACT TWO: "Felicity" Fans Are in for a Shock Abrams picked his childhood friend Matt Reeves to direct the film. Together, they created Felicity, a show about young New Yorkers looking for love. But while the most exciting moment on that show was the time Keri Russell cut her hair, in this movie the entire city gets hacked to pieces.
FACT THREE: This Poster Doesn't Lie As a kid, Abrams loved Escape From New York. But he felt cheated that the image of the Statue of Liberty's head lying in the street on the movie's poster wasn't actually in the film. Abrams finally got to see it on the big screen in the teaser trailer that appeared before Transformers last summer.
FACT FOUR: They Never Meant to Call It That To keep the movie a secret, the project was given the codename "Cloverfield," after a street near Abrams' office. The filmmakers had planned to release the movie as Greyshot, the name of a key Central Park location. But the temporary title spread through the internet so quickly that crew decided to keep it.
FACT FIVE: Will There Be Anyone Left for a Sequel? In the exclusive clip below, Rob (Michael Stahl-David) and Beth (Odette Yustman) run to catch the last helicopter out of Manhattan. Do they make it? We're not telling. But Director Matt Reeves has stated that if they do a sequel, it might take place during the same monster attack, but seen from another camera.

While this never could happen, if it did, it would go down just like this.
In real life, if a monster attacked new york, no one would know what it is or how. And they included alot of scenes that gave it sucha real feel.

I would like to see that done...with the group of the people in the sequel possibly catching the group from the first film on camera in a few scenes...

Like perhaps they have the monster taking down the helicopter on camera or maybe they are recording that scene at the park from a distance off where Hud gets killed by the monster and then the bridge is destroyed.

Just got back from seeing it and I must say I had a great time watching it. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Like many people have said in previous posts, with the way the monster was showcased, and the lack of origin it makes you want more. I think after they see the money they made this opening weekend, and overall a sequel will probably be made. It could be done from another persons POV or if they wanted to have a story based on its background and destroying another city could work fine too.
If you haven't seen it yet, I would give it a look.

I was reading today about a possible sequel idea for the film...
Due to some fans actually being pissed at the fact they got a romance movie with a little monster other than a monster movie as promised...the idea is going around that the possibly sequel to the film will be a focus on the creature itself. The movie wont be shot on handycam but will be a full blown monster movie showing the creature attacking the city along with the soldiers trying to defend it.
I like that idea but I dont know how good it will be.

Amazing. The more time goes by the more intrigued I am by it too. I'm starving for more information. It was very gripping and had me on the edge of my seat. Everything about it was spot on really.
I like the idea of the sequel, providing it documents the night from another camera/group of people and involves a new journey. Also, it'd have to be different in some aspects. Like shed light on new things, show new details. Also, what's to say there was only those crabs. I'd like to see more info on that stuff, perphpas even a new smaller creature. And some insight into the chestburster or whatever that was.
It was very very good and I think there's potential in sequels if done the same with new info.
I like the idea of a series of movies that are just different documented videos in a goverment file.

Alot of people missed the point when they complain about the ending and knowing the monster. Having one of the characters get into an 'expos about where the monster really came from and such would ruin it for me, even if I instinctively wanted a scene like that after being spoiled for so many years. In the end, I'm doing completely unnecessary research into the film's mythology (reading characters MySpace profiles) just to learn more.
I so rarely get that involved in a movie's marketing campaign, the last time being the purchase of Enter the Matrix and Animatrix.

The creepiest part of the movie to me was not the MAIN, giant monster, but the small little spider/crab/mantis things instead.
I mean, the giant one was pretty cool, but the whole scene in the medical tent with the people exploding from being bitten (the woman exploding behind the curtain? Awesome.) was intense. The guy in front of me actually jumped and swung his arms in the air at that part. I've never seen that before in a theater. I've seen people jump, but never jump and swing their arms.

I was reading around on the net and apparently it is actually revealed in the movie how the monster came to be....except you would of had to read a interview with Matt Reeves to understand it...
Spoiler in Black---
In the final scene in the film, (showing Rob and Beth saying they love each other to the camera) They take the camera and pan off toward the ocean. If you watch carefully you can see something fall out of the sky and land in the ocean. Fans were thinking it was the monster landing, but it was revealed to be a satellite. Reeves said in an interview when asked about the origins of the Monster that it was asleep at the bottom of the ocean. People are beliving that it was the satallite that woke the monster.

Lord fuck I hated this movie, when I wasn't falling asleep with how boring it was, I was pissed at how stupid it was, even the monster was pretty disappointing, or maybe it was the lack of clear shots of it.
I would rather see The Village again then this worthwhile pile of monster crap.

Im not going to contest that, but It did not make the movie any better, I just found the monster to be lackluster, the camera was annoying as hell, it had like no plot but running around, and the worst ending ever.
I felt like I paid $10 just to see what the monster looked like.

To each his own about the monster and the camera. But I don't get the no plot argument. It had a plot, a simple one. Monster attacks city, guy tries to save girl and escape. That's enough. People are complaining about how there was such a lack of explanation for the monster, but what are they supposed to do, have some scientist come out of nowhere and give a perfect explanation of what it is?
It's not even a 90 minute movie. If it got bogged down in plot, it would kill the pacing. I like that there was no explanation for the monster. All the more interesting. All you have to know is it's big, it's mean, it's a force of destruction. This is a popcorn flick, not Atonement or something. Who needs that much plot in a movie like this?

And I don't get the complaints about the ending. I don't think a perfect, happy ending would work. The ending left me wanting more, because you're pretty sure the damned thing is still on the loose.

The monster looked somewhat cool, its too bad the Aerial chopper shot was him surronded in dust and smoke, and the only other decent shot is when the dude gets eaten by the monster, and even then its only a headshot I just really did not like the shaky camera dealy, It reminded me of The Blair Witch, which I dislike, also It was only like 1 hour and 20 minutes as you stated. I understand that it is difficult to have a plot and explanation when no one knows what the fuck is going on, and running like crazy, as its seen from a handheld camera, I just wish the ending was Was not the way it was, Ideally for me it could have been them saying they love each other, running towards a chopper that is about to take off, the monster is after them and the last thing before the end credits you see the monster being bombed by a F-16 Fighter Jet, and the camera falls to the ground and goes off, that leaves the question did they survive, did the monster survive, did they even hit the monster, did they make it to the chopper, but be taken down again by the monster, it also leaves the sequel door wide open
And I don't get the complaints about the ending. I don't think a perfect, happy ending would work. The ending left me wanting more, because you're pretty sure the damned thing is still on the loose.

The only problem with the ending is...
that would make me think the monster lived and that the characters got away. The fact that the monster was bombed and the last shot you see is of the characters flying off before the camera is dropped to the ground would leave the crowd thinking that way. Ending the movie the way they did showed that the characters were killed off except for the monster. I didnt even know of the thing after the credits and I just assumed from the ending he was still alive anways.
Im not saying that your ending is a bad ending...its a great ending if you want to end the movie on a nice high note. But I think the directer was trying to get the people wanting more.

This movie seems very cathartic. It's the antithesis of the movie formula, and does a lot of things considered "bad." I'm just hoping the movie really has some merit beyond being counter culture.

Honestly, if your not retarded (which I think I can say your not) and you can accept the point of view from what your seeing, its amazing.
Everyone who hasnt liked it are the types that watch meet the Spartans. They hate that they dont have any closure or backstory. This movie is not about that.
If you can accept it for what it is, it is amazing.

I tend to agree with this but not the extremes that you've gone into. I thought it was an average film, I enjoyed some parts but I really think they should havenot used the hand held camera angle throughout the whole of the film, instead they should have done half and half with some professional shooting and the rest in hand held mode. Some things really annoyed me though:
1) The guy filming just annoyed me with his chitter chatter even when they were in the tunnel running away he was cracking stupid jokes. And walking around the room prior saying to everyone how Rob and the other bird had sex. Just the way he just wouldnt shut up in general. I realise this was in the movie to add to the 'realism' of the whole situation but it just really annoyed me. I was glad when he died at the end :p
2) How the guy kept filming absolutely EVERYTHING, when at times you just think "mate fuck filming this shit, just get the fuck out of there". which leads me to point 3...
3) How long is the battery in the camera? They start filming around what, say 9pm on the night of the party and it manages to last til about 7am the next morning, being on almost constantly and having used night vision etc. Certainly can last a while lol
4) Why did they fly OVER the city when they were in the helicopter instead of flying AWAY from it? Dunno about you guys but if I was trying to get the fuck away from something I would go the long way if I had to as long as I got the fuck AWAY from it, not hovering over it, lol
I did like parts of it though, I did enjoy the realism of it with the hand held camera even though at times it got very annoying and was unnecessary (and my mate started feeling a bit of nausia [sp?]). I also liked how they've left it open to maybe a sequel, possibly using the girlfriends story once she got in the helicopter, or the army guy's story from the ground.

Well, since the movie is supposed to be the video as is, the battery only had to have been good about a little less than an hour and a half, which I'm sure most cameras can do. So while the movie covers from about 9 PM to 6 AM, I'm guessing there's pretty much a lot of shit that doesn't get recorded
Also pretty tired of people complaining about the camera being "invincible" and "pretty strong" and shit. Because if we went the whole movie without Hud going through any problems people would complain about that, yet if at some random point the camera broke, THERE'D BE NO FUCKING MOVIE. And if people were pissy about the ending as it was, imagine how pissed they'd be if the movie ended with the camera just fucking breaking.
Retarded.
No you're wrong. If the camera broke and all you saw was black and all you heard was buildings falling and shit and the movie kept you expecting someone to start filming shit again for like 15-20 minutes. And then the credit rolled.
that would be FANTASTIC! Best ending ever imo.

heres how it works.....ive literally poured a good amount of time looking into the slusho, taragoto ( something like that) and this other website thats AGAINST those two companies, like a radical group based to stop them.
fromt he slusho website
Slusho is made from something called "sea bed" which is literally at the bottom of the sea, its only able to be served frozen since it is presurized under the sea and and HAS to remain fresh. Also, the orginal person who decided to put sea bed into a drink and made slusho had a dream the night he discovered sea bed where he dreamnt he was a fish and a whale came along and told him to put the sea bed into a drink and drink it. he did that in his dream and the fish turned into a whale...i think thats some sort of sign. slusho is NOT FDA approved.
Taragtuo (spelling) website:
Taragauto is a HUGE corporation that does two things....drills into the ocean floors to get oil but get this....Taraguto is the PARENT COMPANY of Slusho. are we seeing the connection here? slusho has NOT been FDA approved yet but arrived in america on dec 22 207. funny thing about that? On sept 2007, they started an offshore drilling sight thats QUITE the distance from new york, but is none the less a straight line to it. A not FDA approved product that supposedly has something to do wiht the monster being funded by a multimillion dollar oil drilling rig?
gets better....apperently this company also has somehting to do with satellites....and they mention about launching a new one to find a :Rouge pieace" that fell off another japense goverment satellite...the kicker? it landed in the atlantic ocean.
Guess what you saw when you see that thing falling into the ocean?
Now for the radical group...check THIS out.
They are swearing up and down this company is crooked. they are radicals that think targauto is drainging mother earth of all its components. also, they believe the "Accident" that happened to a former or current slusho employee and his family wasmore then just an accident. this person knew somethign and was possibly going to blow the lid off this slusho mystery before being tragically killed with his family accodring to these radicals.
This is all i have so far
THe drilling site off shore of NYC opened up sept 2007...sometime between now and then slusho is approved for us distribution by the AFA but not the FDA..key element there.....the satelite...falls in the ocean in april...monster attacks in may 2007.
satelitte or the offshore driling rig has somethingt o do with the monster, or both. one way or the other, its pretty damn intrestign when you follow this all on the net then see the movie.

unfortuneltly...nothing is actually adding up at all. its all very vauge but its clear this is how JJ abrhams wanted it to be done...a movie that if you didnt really follow it up until it came out and saw it, you would think blair witch project and that it sucked. but theres so much more thats hidden, like the fact that you saw someone else holding a cam corder on the bridge what could that mean you know? more tapes to be found?
I know its kinda corny but for some odd reason its fun to try and pieace it all together, obviously you cant quite yet but the pieaces of the puzzle are there none the less.
there being pretty smart makingn it so either the satellite or the drilling site could be the reason the monster is here. is it from space or is it from underwater? really, the movie is not even half the story if you read everything else.
Maybe i have to much spare time on my hands but, this is a lot of fun for what ever reason to me lol

I don’t want anymore. That film wasn’t designed for answers and/or questions
It was just a great monster movie, leave it as it is
Any sequal couldn’t be done in the same vien and would be treated like a proper film and would probably end up like Godzilla (1998) oh god I’ve got sick in my mouth!
