Taken from another forum

Not a bad crowd. Not as good as the one we had in August of 06.. But not bad.

Paul Burchill opened up against Funaki in the dark match. Burchill has some hot little manager he calls his sister..They had a little incest thing going on..Whatever. Mediocre match at best..Burchill with the win.

ECW opens with the 5 way over the top match..Kane vs. Morrison vs. Miz vs. Shelton vs. Dreamer. Crowd was hot for Kane..Dreamer got a nice response. Pretty dead overall for Morrison and Miz. Kane eliminating Dreamer first drew a big pop. Kane still works well. The finish with Shelton was pretty nice..and Shelton had a fair amount of heat for sure. Way short..But good for what it was. The One's Rating: 2.5 out of 4.

Body Contest: Kelly Kelly vs. Lena Yada vs. Layla: Standard bikini contest. Layla and Kelly are freaking gorgeous. Don't care for this Asian chick..Pretty ugly if you ask me. The One's Rating: 2 out of 4 just for Kelly and Layla's asses.

Kofi Kingston vs. some dude. Kofi looked alright..Not exceptionally special..And a little awkward all the way around. Crowd wasn't liking him at all. Kofi with the win on some finisher I didn't really pay attention to. The One's Rating : 1.5 out of 4.

The guy who gets killed every week vs. Khali...Totally lame..Not even really funny. Good selling by the kid though. The One's Rating: 0.5 out of 4.

Chavo vs. CM Punk for the ECW title. Good overall match. Nice chemistry shown by these two. I was actually shocked to see Chavo get the win. Crowd was as well. The One's Rating: 2.5/4.

Overall: 2 out of 4.

Smackdown.

Rey vs. Edge's Henchmen in a 2 on 1 handicap match. Nice match here. Rey is flawless. He's a spot monkey..But it comes so effortless to him..Beautiful to watch really. Edge's boys did their thing..But it was Rey's show for sure. Rey hit a sick backspring roundkick off the second rope knocking the chair into Curts face. Crowd was all over Rey. Good stuff. The One's Rating: 3 out of 4.

Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Domino. Pretty much standard fare. The crowd was liking Jimmy..But there were a lot of rednecks there. Jimmy with the Duke with a nice moonsault. The One's Rating: 2 out of 4.

Palumbo and Noble vs. Morrison and Miz. Well..The match never really happened. But the beatdown was sick. Noble knocked Michelle off the apron..They bought the stretchers out and all..Palumbo proceeded to beat the everloving crap out of Noble..Stiff shots all. He then threw down McCool and kicked her arm as he walked off. Crowd was HOT. Palumbo had mad amounts of heat. This little kid behind me was screaming..Oh God..Someone come help her...What is this world coming to. I see this new heel thing really working for Palumbo. The One's Rating: 2.5 out of 4 for the beatdown/turn.

I gotta say..You can call NC Flair country..But VA comes close. These rednecks were WOOING their asses off all night. It was hilarious. I had to join in a couple of times just for kicks. Good crap. By far the largest pop of the night when Flair came out to promo with MVP. Deafening. MVP cuts a hell of a funny promo on Flair. The pro-flair crowd was even rolling. You gotta check it.

Batista got a huge pop..And cut a nice short promo. Standard.

Finlay vs. Khali in a Belfast Brawl. OK. The match can only be won by Pin or Submission..Which Justin announced. Keep this in mind later. The two actually worked some pretty acceptable stuff. Khali hit a sick chair shot onto Finlay. Finlay took Khali to the outside and worked his ass with the shilleleigh and a chair. I mean he worked his ass over. The crowd was in a frenzy. Khali got cut open..And the match just ended. No pin..no submission. It was like it was first blood or something..I was like WTF. Oh well. The One's Rating: 2.5 out of 4 for the match..0 out of 4 for the ending.

Undertaker vs. Big Daddy V..Nice match between these two. V is a huge smurf in person. UT's entrance is still the best in wrestling. No matter how long it is. Loved every minute of it. Nice Brawl..Went from the outside back into the ring. V hit is signature splashes and slams. UT hit his DDT and old school. The finish looked hella awkward..UT locked on the triangle choke..And V must have tapped within half a second..If that...He had blood running all down his mouth. Looked incredibly fake to have blood rushing out of your throat when you've been in the whole for a second..Maybe. Still a good show by these two. The One's rating: 3 out of 4.

Edge vs. CM Punk in the Main Event. GREAT Match. These two lit it up..Great spots..Great Flow. Edge is over HUGE...I mean HUGE. There must have been two people in the stands minimum rooting for him..Me being one. It was great. CM botched his springboard clothesline off the top rope again..Great back and forth stuff from both guys..Good non-finishes..Edge gets the win with a nice looking spear after dodging CM in the corner. Edge celebrates as the show goes off the air. The One's rating..3.3 out of 4.

Dark Match: Batista and CM and Rey vs. Edge and his boys. Not bad..CM was really winded from working two matches before..and you could tell. Rey wins with a top rope splash.

Overall: 2.5 out of 4. Not great..Too many squashes and short matches for my taste..But there was a lot of good wrestling to be had..And the other segments weren't bad either. I had fun for sure..Can't wait for the next one

So much for Punk/Edge at No Way Out. :-\

Damn... Well at least I have another reason to tape the main event of SD again.

Ah well, there goes any theories about Edge vs. CM Punk at WrestleMania. They just blew it on SmackDown!. Sounds like a good match, though.

This Chuck Palumbo/Jamie Noble thing is honestly the best thing the WWE has got going on right now. I like it even more than Randy Orton/Jeff Hardy. It's been really well done, and it's going to get Chuck Palumbo massive heel heat, and Jamie Noble massive face heat. That's exactly what the WWE should be striving to do with their mid-card.

I really want to hear MVP's promo, too.

That Pulumbo thing sounds great, double turns are few and fare between, it sounds good though

Here's another set of spoilers from the show.

- Dark Match: Paul Birchall (w/ Kate Lea) defeated Funaki. Kate was announced as Lea but called herself Kate Birchall. They were doing the Cruel Intentions gimmick. Birchall worked stiff as hell. His new finisher puts his opponent in a surfboard-like position and then curbstomps their head into the ground. It looked sick.

ECW was taped first for obvious reasons.

-Rey Mysterio defeated Curt Hawkins & Zach Ryder by DQ. Rey had one of them up for the 619 but the other grabbed a chair and brought it into the ring. The referee disqualified the Edgeheads before they even used the chair. Rey dropkicked the chair into his face and used it to chase them away.

Backstage Chuck Palumbo and Jamie Noble argue. They are teaming tonight but only because of Michelle.McCool.

- Jamie Noble, Chuck Palumbo, and Michelle McCool fought John Morrison, The Miz, & Layla to a no contest. Noble and Palumbo get into it in the ring and Palumbo accidentally sends McCool flying off the apron and onto the floor. The referee stops the match to check on McCool and orders Miz, Morrison, and Layla to just stand on the other side of the ring. As they are stretchering McCool out Palumbo turns on Noble and beats him down for a good ten minutes. He even takes out the ref TWICE in some UWF level no selling. The beating on Noble continues FOREVER. Michelle McCool makes a miraculous recovery and gets off the stretcher but is accidentally elbowed in the face by Palumbo. Palumbo continues to beat on Noble and then kicks McCool while she's down before he leaves. Noble, who is still conscious after getting beaten forever, crawls over to McCool before she is stretchered out. Meanwhile the tag champs are standing there looking like goofs. The crowd turned on this segment bad and I'll be curious to see if they edit it down any.

MVP comes out to talk about his and Ric Flair's career. We go through a series of photoshops that shows MVP winning his first World Title while Flair is playing golf, and MVP getting inducted into the Hall of Fame while Flair is playing shuffleboard in a nursing home. This brings out Flair who says that he admires MVP but that the golf playin', shuffleboard winnin', nursing home patient (Wooo!) will not retire at the Rumble. This may have been Flair's last show in Virginia.

- Jimmy Wang Yang (w/ Shannon Moore) defeated Domino (w/ Deuce & Cherry). Deuce tried to interfere but Shannon Moore took him out with a hurracanra off the apron.

- Finlay and The Great Khali fought to a No Contest in a Belfast Brawl. Pretty generic until Khali had Finlay down and he tried to chokeslam Hornswoggle through the announce table. Finlay stopped him and grabbed the shillelagh and went to town on Khali. I mean, he must have hit Khali about 30 or 40 times with the shillelagh and then hit him some more with a chair. Finlay and Hornswoggle just left after that.

Backstage Vince talks to Hornswoggle and reminds him that the Royal Rumble is every man for himself and that he can't trust even Finlay. He says that Hornswoggle's last name isn't Finlay, its McMahon.

Batista came out and wished Rey Mysterio luck in his match against Edge at the Royal Rumble. He then guaranteed victory in the Rumble Match.

- Undertaker defeated Big Daddy V. BDV kicked out of a chokeslam and Taker kicked out of the Boss Man Slam. Taker tried to go for the Triangle Choke early on but BDV worked out of it, but Taker eventually cinched it in and Big Daddy V tapped out. Taker kept it on and BDV started spitting up blood. Mark Henry came out looking concerned and helped carry Big Daddy V to the back.

- Edge (w/ Hawkins & Ryder) defeated CM Punk. Rey Mysterio was on commentary. Outside of one botched springboard clothesline (that will probably be edited out) this was a really good, competitive match. The finish came when Punk flipped over Edge off the top rope but Edge caught him with a spear. Punk came off really well here. After the match Rey Mysterio ran off Edge and the Edgeheads and stared them down.

Post-show Dark Match:

Batista, Rey Mysterio, & CM Punk defeated Edge, Curt Hawkins, & Zach Ryder. Edge and Co. came back out to have a match and Batista came out to even things up. This was by far the best post-show dark match I've seen. Rey got the win with the 619 and the three faces spent a long time celebrating with the fans afterward. They did a funny spot where all three of them did Batista's rope shaking pose but with Batista holding the top rope, Punk holding the middle rope, and Rey holding the bottom rope.

All in all this was a really good show, including ECW. The Palumbo-Noble stuff was really bad but otherwise everything was either good or fun. The new set looks great. They had a lot of technical problems throughout the night though. They had to retape Rey Mysterio's, Kofi Kingston's, and the Edgeheads' video entrances again and it looked like Cole and Coach were having difficulties with sound earlier. Some things would flash up on the big screen from time to time like the Raw logo or MVP's logo on the sides when Kofi Kingston came out. They also had trouble cueing up the intro for ECW, which also seemed to run really long.

I thought it was The One on another forum but he said Taker has the best entrance in wrestling but then for sure I knew it wasn't him as he likes Batista's dancing entrance.

I'm still holding onto hope they'll have Punk "miraculously" win the Royal Rumble, and then they run a program with Edge where he tells Punk that he can't possibly hope to beat him, he should go to RAW, because he has a much better chance with Jeff Hardy. You know, "You might be the next Edge, but I'm the real Edge," that kind of shit.

Edge defeats The Undertaker at No Way Out, because honestly, that feels like an NWO main event, rather than a WrestleMania one, and Edge basically asks Punk what makes him think he can beat Edge, when the legendary Undertaker couldn't. Punk does, however, maybe even introducing Ace Steel and Colt Cabana to cancel out Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins. CM Punk wins his first World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania XXIV.

Edge/Taker isn't a Mania caliber match, but Punk/Edge is?

COMEONNOW.

What Would Kevin Do?

Edge/Taker feels like something WWE would do at any other ppv... It doesn't feel special. It's a big match, but it's not anything special.

Punk/Taker is the opposite really. It's not a "big match", but it'd be a special match. It means something. It's a new chapter if you will.

With that said, Punk's not ready. He doesn't have a big enough personality to be champion on one of the bigger shows.

Edge/Taker feels like something you'd get anywhere. The main event of No Way Out, for example. CM Punk is not the biggest star in the world, but I'm much more interesting in seeing him face Edge, and I think it would be a lot more special.

Did anybody see that botched Triangle Choke finish in the Taker V match? that was freaking horrible - they tried to put it over as something new and innovative, and never seen before. Hilarious.

It's actually a legitimate jujitsu choke called a gogoplata.

Not saying it wasn't a botch or that Taker intended to perform this choke, just letting you know it is a legit choke.

Are you sure that's what he did? I thought he just had the guy's head resting on his leg, and his hands wrapped around the back of his head. It was pretty clear to me that he just couldn't get his legs around V's head, so he let V rest his chin on his leg while he grabbed the back of V's head with his hands to cover for the botch. If it wasn't a botch, kudos to Taker.

redoneja
01-26-2008, 11:44 AM
I'm not saying it was or wasn't a botch, I'm just saying that it ended up being a legit hold. I also think Cole and Coach covered for it very well whether or not it was a botch or not. It did look like Taker had his shin across V's throat and was pulling down on the head to really clinch in the choke. Again, whether it was meant to be like that or not, I don't know

Also, keep in mind that the picture I posted is a gogoplata done from rubber guard by someone with extensive training. Whatever Taker ended up doing, it wasn't from a rubber guard and I doubt how extensive his training was.

If anything, I consider it a botch that turned into something practical, that the announcers could cover for and that actually worked out well, considering V still went through with bleeding from the mouth (via capsule I assume).

You just wait until Matt an MVP get back at it.

Am I the only one who felt sorry for Chuck Palumbo instead of being "angry" at him? Noble is still heel to me damnit!
