Chavo is finaly a world champion, albeit the ECW World Champion. But still I'm happy with it.

Wow I was gonna post something like this this morning, but fell asleep before I typed anything lol. Anyway this is awesome. Sure, Chavo will probably never be anything more than ECW Champion, but it's still a singles title that isn't the Cruiserweight belt. Maybe this will start to push Chavo up the card a bit, somewhere I've always thought he belongs.

I agree this is awesome.
I've wanted to see Chavo as Smackdown champ for a while, but this will do.
Never saw it coming (honestly haven't been watching ECW). Actually quite a pleasant surprise.

Damn. This gives me hope that Hardy may win at the Rumble.

Actually that should show you that Hardy is NOT winning at the rumble.
I never expected Chavo to win the ECW title all of a sudden. As a matter of fact, I am happy for Chavo...Viva La Raza.

I refer you to 2004, when Eddie won the WWE title followed shortly by some toothless Canadian winning the World Title. It can happen.

Chavo is an ok wrestler but he has done nothing for me to prove that he is worthy of being a world champion.

I think he is a great ECW Champion, hopefully he will get to hold the belt for a few months.

The ECW title is a world championship?
Let's be honest here, it's, AT BEST, at IC title status.

So basically most of the other champions in the last couple of years?

Chavo isn't World Championship material to be honest, so this midcard dog biscuit of a belt is the best he'll get.

Totally agree.
For me, I get bored with loooooong title reigns and, as the ECW title doesn't come anywhere near the status of the WWE/WHC titles, they should use it more frequently to share around to those deserving wrestlers who will never get one of the top two straps. Not too frequently, just more often than the other belts.

well if they want to build the credibility of the belt as a world championship chavo is not the man to do it.

I agree, but it will never be seen as such and never booked as such outside of ECW. It will always be the third-string title. I can already tell it'll be playing second-fiddle to Edge and his WHC anyway.

It should be Elijah Burke's title, if you ask me.
Good for Chavo. The guy hasn't had a real title since his tag title reign with Eddie. He's definitely deserving of it, even if, like others have said, it is the TV Title of the WWE.
Can't help but hope that this is a sign that CM Punk is leaving the permanent residency of ECW for a more prestigious brand.

While I can understand it not being considered a pure World Title (it's definitely behind the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles), the ECW Title is still higher than the IC Title. It's also higher than the US Title, in my opinion. The hierarchy goes something like this:
WWE Title
World Heavyweight Title
ECW Title
US Title
IC Title

Also, my thoughts on this exactly match BDC's. I don't care what anyone says, as it is the top title of a WWE brand, regardless of what anyone tells me otherwise (including the WWE), I now consider Chavo Guerrero a World Champion.
The man also deserves it. Damn solid competitor who has often been underused. If anyone should have gotten the push that Rey Mysterio got in 2006, it should have been Chavo Guerrero. Chris Benoit also would have been acceptable, but Chavo definitely deserved it more than Rey, in my opinion.
When I say "IC title status", I'm talking what it used to be. Right now, anything that isn't the WWE or WHC isn't worth shit.

Not saying you're wrong (and this may just be a subjective, matter of opinion) but is the US Title more prestigious than the IC title? I know it's been around a couple of years longer but is it generally regarded as higher up the ladder than the IC championship? If it is, I am surprised.

I have to disagree. Maybe in the beginning this was the truth, with guys like Van Dam, Big Show, Flair, and Undertaker fighting for it, but it's fallen very far from that grace. John Morrison? The Miz? Big Daddy V? Even CM Punk can't be considered a huge name at this point; not bigger than Jeff Hardy; maybe on even ground with MVP, but certainly not above them.
And now Chavo is the ECW Champion. Again, Chavo can't be compared to either Hardy or MVP at this point. It's a mid card title, while the US and IC Titles are upper-mid card titles, and then at the top are the World and WWE Titles.

Chavo withstanding, who would you have expected to win a triple threat match between MVP, Jeff Hardy and CM Punk last week?

I would normally be persuaded to take the "WWE sees their titles as more prestigious as the others," and the IC Title was a WWE created belt, but if you really look at the treatment the US Title has gotten over the last few months:
Since the US Title was revived in 2003, there has only really been one Champion generally considered a dud. That would be Orlando Jordan (and he was not as bad as everyone makes out). The guys who have held the US Title: Eddie Guerrero, Big Show, John Cena, Booker T, Carlito, Orlando Jordan, Chris Benoit, JBL, Bobby Lashley, Mr. Kenedy, Finlay and MVP. The current Champion, MVP, wrestled some great matches with Benoit last year, and also had the feud of the year with MVP, and got to look good in a Champion vs. Champion Match against CM Punk.
Going back to when the IC Title was revived in 2003 after being unified with the World Heavyweight Title, you get some good Champions, as well, but the belt has generally shifted around more, and you get a lot more underwhelming reigns: Christian, Booker T, Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam, Randy Orton, Edge, Shelton Benjamin, Carlito, Ric Flair, Johnny Nitro, Jeff Hardy, Umaga, Santino Marella. I'm surprised at how strong the IC Title list looks on paper, but it wasn't nearly booked as well, and often the title feels like an afterthought to the main event programs.
The current IC Champion, Jeff Hardy, is getting a main event push, but it feels like the IC Title is being forgotten in the feud. He often doesn't even appear with the belt, apparently. He has been one of the better Champions in recent history. It really is just subjective, and a matter of my own opinion, but generally I'd consider the US Title to be the slightly better booked belt. Plus it has the slightly longer history, and it dates back to the territory days.

Jeff Hardy pinning MVP with a Swanton Bomb. The match would have been booked very competitively, though. CM Punk would have probably hit MVP with a GTS, taken a Twist of Fate, rolled out of the ring, and then Hardy would have added the exclamation mark.

I get what you're saying, and don't completely disagree, but recently the ECW Title has been booked better. CM Punk got to defeat the US Champion (albeit via disqualification, this decision actually confirmed what a lot of people thought about the belt being lower than a World Championship), but he still went over the US Champion. Punk is also involved in a little rivalry with Edge, who is the World Heavyweight Champion.
These little points, at least in my mind, take the belt from being mid-card, and move it to a plain somewhere between World and secondary title status.
