View Full Version : IYO: Cole
What do you like about him? What do you hate about him?
One thing I hate about Cole is that he doesn't have his own personal view towards the match or the superstar rather than playing fair and shit. He always stands out to be a kiss up to his commentery partner.

I liked him better before he became the Source of All Evil, but you gotta respect anyone who got to tap Alyssa Milano, huh?

I hate the fact that he calls a steamroller a "rolling reverse samoan drop"

I hate the fact that he his possibly the biggest douche of all time
I love the fact that he is on smackdown, which despite wanting to see, I usually forget to watch.
JUST KIDDING COLE, YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU.
(i tell him this)
Guy doesn't do a bad job, but he doesn't bring anything to the table that a hundred other sportscasters with even an inkling of wrestling knowledge and a script in front of them could do just as good.
Tazz has that jokey, hokey appeal and a good Brooklyn accent, JR is just a legend in the business and has that southern drawl, and King is another legend who has been doing his high pitched, easily excited thing for years. Joey Styles works because he has a great commentary voice and knows the business as if he wrote it.
JBL does a great job complimenting Cole's straight man image with his strong heel style and his own Texan accent, but still, Cole could either be more entertaining and interesting, or have more conflict with JBL at the table.

COle and coach= the most bland announce team of all time, IMO.

I hate how he knows absolutely nothing about wrestling after all these years.

But for the record the record he knows dick about wrestling. Decent broadcast journalist but his lack of actual knowledge on the sport hurts him on a nightly basis.
if it weren't for the vertical suplex he wouldn't know the name of any wrestling move.
He is ok. He was fucking awesome when he was with Tazz though. Definately a lot worse announcers than Cole.

If he would just learn the names of the moves I'd be happy...

Michael Cole is not horrible. He is really good at calling the Rumble Match, because he goes into full journalistic mode, and researches all the facts and statistics on the guys and their Rumble performances. I know all the moves better than any play-by-play guy will call, and I know the storyline better than any colour guy will flesh out (except maybe JBL), but when Cole spouts off those little facts in the Rumble, it's something I don't know from memory. I really like that about him. It reminds me of Jack Korpela, who is another underrated commentator in the WWE.
What I don't like about Cole, is just how fucking biased his face character is. It would not be so bad if the character was actually right, but the fact is, it's not. Rey Mysterio does three rolling suplexes, it's apparently an amazing tribute. Eddie Guerrero's nephew busts them out in the same match, and apparently it's an insult to his memory. This is completely ignoring the fact that Rey had a death feud with Eddie in storylines over the fate of his son, Chavo is the man's flesh and blood relative, and Chavo just does the moves better.
Most of Cole's shittiness comes from the WWE, though. You know, people in his ear. If the guy was allowed to be himself, he could do a great job. I was watching No Way Out 2004 the other day, and one thing I really appreciated was how just before the main event, they showed Goldberg, and Cole was furious. "How dare this man show up? Who does he think he is?" Goldberg was one of the biggest faces in the WWE at the time, but Cole was pissed off because he had Speared SmackDown!'s General Manager, Paul Heyman. Cole didn't like Heyman as a GM, but he still had this brand loyalty. It's kind of off-topic, but that kind of brand loyalty needs to return for this brand split to work, I think.

I do not think he is a horrible play by play guy, but he is not one of the best. I wouldn''t mind if he didn't do play by play anymore though.

I always used to think he was shit, until TNA got a TV deal in 2005.
Then, I realized Michael Cole is a decent/good commentator, Mike Tenay is bad, and Don West is awful.
Anyway, about Cole. He's good and all, keeping the viewers updated if they missed a show and stuff, but his knowledge of moves can be pitiful at times...

I want to see a commentary team of Cole/Don West.
It would be magic.

Mike Tenay is not nearly as bad as everyone makes out. TNA is bringing out the worst in him, sure, but the man knows his shit.

I always felt that Tenay was always a good 3 man. Him as a head announcer is just not working. As for DW..I have no comment on the man who should be back on QVC selling the Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card.
But it looks like a man we all know wants to add himself to the TNA broadcast booth, and that man is..... <object width="425" height="373"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HT7Xcije3gE&rel=1&border=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HT7Xcije3gE&rel=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="373"></embed></object>

I think Cole is a huge douche. Sometimes his attitude is fine and normal, and other times he's just a huge douche. He's a good commentator, but that's about it. I think Cole works best with people like Tazz or JBL. Guys who have actually wrestled and can call him out when wrong.

Yeah he is. As the lead announcer, he sucks a cock. Fact. Not opinion.
