I have to give WWE credit. They managed to throw everyone off on this and I don't think anyone seriously thought seeing a Cena rumble appearance only 4 months into his "8 month minimum" time out for an injury was a real possibility other than a joke. Even myself, who cannot stand to have Cena on my TV, actually got a bit of a shock when his music hit and I was actually happy to have been surprised by something for once that was not blatantly obvious that was going to happen (obvious choice being the Big Show in that 30th slot). This was of course, when i was 99% sure Triple H still was winning the match.
I have to believe this was a spur of the moment decision by WWE because I cannot imagine them doing such an involved storyline with Triple H fighting for his rumble spot back, only to crush him (people crush Triple H? wtf?) with SuperCena. The only way I can see this being saved as something decent, in my eyes, is to have Triple H sledge Cena to hell and back, "reinjuring him" (giving him the time to rest out the rest of his injury) and then maybe a NWO rematch between Triple H and Batista to see who faces Randy Orton, while the Elimination Chamber would decide the WHC contender.

01-28-2008, 12:53 AM
Wow, I am so glad I didn't order the Royal Rumble PPV. Seriously, what an underwhelming result. There are so many things with John Cena winning the 2008 Royal Rumble that it's not funny:
1. Spoiler: Cena Wins
Has the WWE not learned anything from their past with the guy? You push him too hard, and people don't give a shit. Cena does not equate to a next generation Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold Steve Austin. He is just another guy, and pushing him as some kind of god over the rest of the roster hurts them more than it hurts Cena.
2.The #30 spot wins again
I was all for The Undertaker breaking the ice by winning from the #30 spot last year, but now we have two years in a row where the #30 guys runs in, is obviously going to win, and sucks a level of excitement out of the match (to some degree). I know it makes logical sense that the #30 guy would win, but what's the point of watching an hour match with 30 participants, if it comes down to #29 and #30?
John Cena is #30
This spot works best for a heel, and it worked for The Undertaker because he's got the whole "Dead Man" gimmick, and can apparently manipulate existence to a degree. It made eerie sense that The Undertaker drew #30. John Cena drawing #30 shows a continued failing of the WWE overproducing John Cena. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I realise the irony is that my complaining about the WWE is exactly the same thing, which is why I will no longer watch the WWE.
He didn't need the Rumble win
The Rumble is a huge rub to give to someone. Cena winning the Rumble would be like Hulk Hogan coming back in, winning the Rumble, and then going onto WrestleMania to challenge for a World Title. You know, except the second will actually make money (unfortunately). A Rumble win for someone who has never won the Rumble before and isn't pushed so hard that they could come out, ask for a World Title match at WrestleMania and get it, would have potentially made another main eventer for the WWE. Something with their recent elevations of Chavo Guerrero, Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, The Great Khali, Mark Henry and fucking Hornswoggle, they obviously need.
The best thing about the 2008 Royal Rumble Match, by the sounds of it, is Kane making the Final Four for the second time in his career. I hope Kane goes on to one day break Stone Cold Steve Austin's record for most eliminations in Royal Rumble history. This also hopefully leads to a heel turn for Kane, and a feud with Batista heading into WrestleMania, which Batista will win, but Kane should win. Because Kane is pure awesome and a push of him is one of the few things that could make me come back. That's why the WWE won't do it, though.
Mr. Nerfect
01-28-2008, 01:00 AM
Seriously, the guy comes back, when no one thought it was possible, and he got booed. That would be like Stone Cold Steve Austin returning from his neck injury (I realise Austin was gone for a much longer time), and then getting booed, even when his surprise is a return, and people are getting him as an extra bang for their buck.
The IWC heat on him has died down, but I was one of the first and I will be one of the last: John Cena is an overproduced piece of crap who does not deserve nearly a quarter of the push he has gotten, solid talent or not. Him getting booed is not great, either. It is a complete rejection of the WWE pushing him. If the WWE thinks that Randy Orton vs. John Cena is going to make money, they are clearly deluding themselves.
I'm going to make a bold prediction: This will be the first time in ages that WrestleMania makes less money than it does the previous year.

But then we <s>could "see him."</s> would have the first one-armed Champion in WWE history!
I was there. I'll say that the majority of fans were shocked (myself included, though in heindsight it was the only logical choice.... WWE logical that is.). I kept seeing that they were keeping the monsters in so I figured Show was going to come in and clear house.... Triple H did that.
Back to Cena, though. Seriously, it was fucking HUGE. I have to think there was some thought being put into the "we're in a smarky town" aspect, and they HAD to have known he would get booed - in fact I'll bet they did it just to throw that "fuck you" to the fans. Live it seemed like 60/40 boos, probably came off as mostly boos on TV though.

Cena will turn heel on Raw tommorrow, I garuntee.
Now wait a minute...
With Cena returning, I can accept that perhaps it wasn't as bad as they made his injury out to be to maybe swerve us a little, but unless it gets canceled, Cena has a movie coming up (which is scheduled to start taping right around Mania, if I'm not mistaken).
There are a few scenarios that can come of this...
1. It gets canceled and he wins the title.
2. It goes on and he loses the match.
3. He loses the spot to someone by No Way Out and they take him out again.
4. It goes on and he wins the match. This one I can't see happening.
So yeah, that makes the win even more mind-boggling...
Also, another theory could be that Cena never was injured. I had thought about this before, but maybe he failed a drug test and had to figure out a way to get him off TV. Kayfabe an injury angle, give him a few extra months off, and you have Super Cena all over again..
Now pardon me while I fix my tinfoil hat.

I was at the show. I am totally shocked that Cena won. But the more I think about it the more it doesn't surprise me. The fact that an 11 time champ, Triple H, has to work his way from the bottom to the top and Cena doesn't is absolutely ridicilious. I am usually not mad after a WWE show, but this one really pissed me off.
Mr. Nerfect
01-28-2008, 04:53 AM
Yeah, I'm hoping that they have someone beat the shit out of Cena, and then set up a different match for WrestleMania. How I would book RAW:
John Cena comes out and cuts a lame promo about how he won the match, no one saw it coming, he's an underdog and has been fighting his entire life. Hoorah. Then Randy Orton comes out and says something along the lines of "Fuck you, Cena. I'm going to beat you at WrestleMania and this time you won't come back." Orton is out there with William Regal, though, and Regal informs Cena that tonight Randy Orton will be challenging for the Intercontinental Championship as he defeated the IC Champion at the Royal Rumble last night, and that Cena will be occupied...with your's truly.
Regal gets the best match out of John Cena possible, assuming he can work. If he can't, then the match doesn't go anywhere before the aftermath takes place: Triple H attacks John Cena, giving him the disqualification win, and whacking him good with the sledgehammer. Little boys and women cry, and Triple H says he'll be facing Randy Orton at WrestleMania. William Regal sells it like he is impressed with Triple H's new attitude, somewhat.
Jeff Hardy retains the Intercontinental Championship against Randy Orton again, this time he gets the pin with the Swanton Bomb. Jeff Hardy rides that momentum into a second match against Randy Orton at No Way Out. This time it is Title for Title. Matt Hardy helps Jeff Hardy win that match, and become the new WWE Champion. Triple H then wins the Elimination Chamber for the WrestleMania title shot that was Cena's, and we get Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H at WrestleMania, as well as Matt Hardy trying to get revenge on both Randy Orton and MVP at the same time in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Jeff Hardy defeats Triple H to retain the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, but their feud continues, until we eventually get a Last Man Standing Match between the two, or something of the like. John Cena returns in this match, and attacks Triple H, helping Jeff Hardy to retain against Triple H. Cena and Triple H then have an epic feud away from the WWE Title, and Jeff Hardy begins a feud with his jealous brother over the WWE Championship.
That's the best of this mess I can make.

BigDaddyCool
01-28-2008, 10:27 AM
Now that I've thought about it. How the hell did he even qualify for the match? Regal, Vince, and Coach (even though Coach is no longer in power) all hate Cena. Vicki who is in love with Edge probably wouldn't be fond of Cena either (even though Edge probably has the best record against Cena, and 2 out of 3 times when Cena lost his title it was because of Edge). But anyhow, with all the people in power hating him how did he get in the Rumble, at #30 no less?

At times I almost like your ideas even more than Heyman's. That would be a pretty sweet storyline.
On topic though, I was shocked as fuck to see Cena, cause they did a mad good job keeping his comeback quiet. At first I was like WTF? Can he even wrestle? Then he came in and I was like great, so there goes the £1 I bet my friend on HHH winning. Bastard.
I'm glad to see him back because I don't really mind him, and find great enjoyment in seeing so many people flip out over how much they hate him. The only thing I don't like about all of this is that Jeff Hardy is probably gonna go way down the pecking order now, which is a damn shame if that happens.

Just the booking of this entire thing is what really pisses me off the most. He comes in unannounced at number 30 nonetheless. No endurance involved, since I think he was barely out there for 5 minutes. Yet he eliminates all of these big names like they are nothing. Throws HHH over and wins a title shot. That could have been big for anyone else except for Cena. The guy is really booked to be superhuman, and its disgusting.

And as BDC said, it makes no logical sense that Cena even found his way into the match...the only real explanation would be that he beat the shit out of some heel to steal their spot...could be used to debut someone new or anything really. It'll never happen though. Fuck.</font> :-\
