QUESTION - Should there be a "double turn" (a la Austin/Bret) at Wrestlemania?(CENA!)
First off - I don't care what ANYONE says, but I'm ESTATIC that Cena won the rumble. Cena may be a failure as a face, but the guy still draws HUGE crowd reactions when facing top-tier opponents (in big atmosphere matches).
And NO - it's not "X-Pac heat." Think Cena vs. RVD ECW One Night Stand 06'. Think Cena vs. Triple H from 2 years ago at Wrestlemania. Anyway - I'm digressing from my main point.
The QUESTION I'd like to ask, is do you think Cena and ??? should do a double turn at Wrestlemania? (For the record, I hope that it's Cena vs. Orton).
I made a similar thread to this last summer if I recall, but I'll re-iterate my old thoughts:
1) Keep John Cena and Randy Orton's characters EXACTLY the same as it is right now.
2) As Cena and Orton feud, let the fans "naturally" start to side with Orton (i.e. don't let Orton starting "acting" nice or as a face as he did in 04'....keep his character as is. Similarly, keep Cena exactly as he is right now).
3) At Wrestlemania, keeps things exactly as is. The fans will NATURALLY side with Orton. It's at this point where perhaps the WWE can do the double turn? (a la Austin/Bret). However - I'd have Orton go over here. Cena's already a bonafide star. If Orton goes over as a 'fan favourite' at Mania (against the HATED Cena), that should put him over the top as an established mega star (as long as they keep Orton's character 'similar' in the following months).

I duno if the fans would naturally side with orton or not, new york is knowing for loving heels and booing faces quite a bit (especially forced down your throat faces). You're obviously basing this on the crowd reaction tonight but before cena was injured he was getting a lot more cheers than boo's from what i can remember.
Id agree cena needs to finally turn but i don't think it would happen naturally like you've layed out.

Really, if my memory serves me correctly, before Cena was injured, there had already begun to be a double turn of sorts. Orton was actually getting cheered against Cena, while Cena had begun to slip down to less and less cheers each PPV. I have to believe that if they go forward with Cena/Orton at WM, they wouldn't have to do much for a double turn to take place.

Might be a good idea.

I think the best idea is to stop watching the WWE, and let them tank when the John Cena fans grow up, realise how fake wrestling is, and they are left with no one to watch their shows, and no one to buy their PPVs.
I mean, even less people than currently do.

This years' Mania has potential to be a CLASSIC, very similar to WM 13 and X7
Let's hope they can hold that momentum up after Mania though

WrestleMania has not had potential be a classic since WrestleMania 21.
The reason why the double turn worked was because Steve Austin had a great gimmick that worked as a face or a heel, and it was time to turn him face. Bret Hart had become a very unlikable son of a bitch, and it was easy for the fans to turn on him.
Problem here today is that neither John Cena or Randy Orton have the gimmick or the charisma of a Steve Austin.

Exactly right. A John Cena heel turn would work, but a Randy Orton face turn? Just can't see it playing out.
They'd probably fuck up John Cena as a heel because they don't know how to write to the fans' desires anymore. His heel character would make him over, like a face, so then they'd turn him face again, and then the fans would hate him and he'd be right where he is now. It's a fucking cycle.

If the WWE made Orton into a suck up (like they did in 04'), then NO....a face turn would fail on all accounts.
However - if they kept Orton as a driven badass that doesn't take shit from anyone, then I think he'd have a (good) chance at succeeding as a face.
The fans will naturally try and cheer any top-tier guy that is feuding with Cena (since the fans "love to hate" Cena).

While this is true, and while I'd agree with the sentiment that Randy Orton needs to have a successful run as a main event face before he really cements himself (something I don't feel he has done yet), I'm not sure if he's the guy that you want for the double turn. I mean, initially, I think the face should become someone who is a little more inclined to being a face.
Mr. Kennedy, for example. I feel that Kennedy would make a much better face than Randy Orton at this point in time, because he just seems more charismatic. Kennedy's character has been trying to prove himself for a while, so while it would be hard to get the WWE Championship onto him in time for WrestleMania (a transitional reign for Jeff Hardy would probably be needed), then Kennedy would make an ideal anti-heel Cena face.
I think it might be simpler and result better if instead of doing a double turn, John Cena just turns heel on a face. Cena turning on Jeff Hardy seems like the best idea.
The double turn is actually more likely than one would assume, though, because the WWE likes to repeat successful (and even unsuccessful) ideas throughout the brands. If you see something on RAW, chances are you'll see a variation of it on SmackDown! within two weeks. Noble and Palumbo are doing a great double turn, so I would not be surprised to see RAW or ECW attempt something similar.
I'd actually prefer John Cena to jump to SmackDown! and challenge Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship to Orton/Cena. I think a double turn would also work better here. Yeah, it's sports entertainment to the max, but have Cena revealed as the father of Vickie Guerrero's child, have Cena call himself a better wrestler than Eddie Guerrero ever was, and have Edge say that he really did love Vickie. Epicly ridiculous heat for an epicly ridiculous feud, but the double turn would be effective. Edge and Cena have had a great rivalry, and this seems a way to evolve it. Edge has carried good matches out of a somewhat capable (at times) John Cena.

Just because people like Kennedy's work (overrated!) doesn't mean he'd be a good face. I think he works better as a heel because he comes across naturally as an unlikeable jackass. Aces in their places... why even turn him face when there's no reason to believe he would succeed in the role?

I think that John Cena would be a great heel leader for the formation of the Hindu World Order. Think about it, you need a heel stable to get over and have mad heel crowd reactions, who better to have as your centerpiece?
Cena converting to Hindu would have endless possibilities.

Cena can rap battle in Hindi!
He can start dissing the crowd in Hindi (the crowd won't understand what he's saying, but Cena can still rhyme in Hindi).
Great Khali (his cohort), can then play Bull Buchanon's old role.
Every time Cena raps in Hindi, he could then give the mic to Khali....who would then yell, "BOO YA!"

At Wrestlemania, the fans will be shitting ALL over Cena (as we've seen the fans do in ALL of Cena's high profile matches the last few years...against top-tier opponents).
Consequently, there will be some very loud "Lets go Randy!" chants.
I still contend that the WWE should USE this to their advantage and turn Orton face (provided that they keep his bad-ass character in-tact).
Have Orton and Cena act the EXACT same way as they are now. Let the fans (literally) make Orton into a face. I guess in a way, this could be similar to how Hogan was turned back in 02' (although obviously, this won't be quite on the same level).

I'd actually prefer John Cena to jump to SmackDown! and challenge Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship to Orton/Cena.
The problem however, is that Cena's the #1 guy in the company. He NEEDS to be on the top show. If it was up to me, Batista would also be moved to RAW.
The WWE is quite open with the fact that RAW is their 'A' show. Ideally, both brands would be treated equally, but it's not. Whether we like it or not, Smackdown is the equivalent of the negro leagues (and ECW is the equivalent of the negro leagues for women).
What if Dave Batista was traded to RAW for Jeff Hardy?
Jeff would have a MUCH better chance at becoming World champ on Smackdown (without all the political BS). Jeff being traded "one-for-one" with Batista would also make him look like Batista's equal. Batista also joins his real-life buddies Triple H, Orton, and Flair on RAW (he's very disliked in the Smackdown lockerroom as is).

I would buy a PPV just to see The Great Khali dressed like a rapper and say BOO YA! Seriously, I would. :shifty:
I like your idea of Cena rapping/dissing the crowd in Hindi though, it got mad heel heat for Tiger Ali Singh, surely it would work for someone that the crowd despises even more?

I’m hoping we won’t have to worry about this at Mania, and hope that we will instead get a second installment of Jeff v. Orton, this time with Jeff coming out on top. Nothing good could come of Cena winning or retaining “his” (:lol:, come on Cena, are you serious, man?) championship at WrestleMania, as we would have to sit through probably years, at best of another HHH-like run for Cena with the strap, and that’s just not something I’m prepared to waste my time and aggravation on.
