Did they serious just waste an entire Royal Rumble?

Yes.

Although to be fair, it's not really the first time something like this has happened.

From front page:

The plan right now is for John Cena to wrestle Triple H for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, which means Cena is winning the title from Randy Orton at No Way Out, which takes place on February 17 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. There have also been talks of doing a three-way match at WrestleMania between Cena, Triple H and Orton. Either way, Triple H and Cena are definitely going to be in the title match.

I can't even comprehend how boring that is.

Has a Wrestlemania main event be recycled like this before?

You're pretty pessimistic for an optimist.

I'd expected an optimist to say something like "Well, we've seen it before, but maybe this time Cena turns heel or doesnt win?"

Of course we all know spoiler : Cena wins, but still, not very optimistic of you, good sir.

Spoiler: Cena wins, and most of TPWW gets drunk.

well Austin wrestled Rock 3 times at Mania...twice for the title, so technically yes. But people actually cared about both guys

Face it people... the only way we're enjoying WrestleMania this year is if we're all drunk as funk while watching the show.

The Rules:

When the opening pyro goes off, take a shot of whisky or tequila. Chugg a beer before each match. Take a shot of Jack Daniels when someone botches a move. Take a shot of vodka everytime the wrestler you want to win loses his match.

Hopefully you'll be passed out before you have to see another Cena-HHH main event Mania match.

KK understands. There's a fine line between optimistic and gullible. They've literally set this trap before.

That was the plan anyway. I got a feeling orton will use his 'rematch clause' and make it a triple threat.

There is no reason for Cena to throw his Royal Rumble victory away like that. They used McMahon's rumble win to set up Austin/McMahon in a cage at St. Valentine's Day Massacre and Rock/Austin @ WrestleMania XV. What is the point of this? To kill the only gimmick match that hasn't become a joke by using it as a cheap ticket seller instead of fuel to the fire of a feud?

Because Cena/HHH is happening at Mania.

James Steele

Then have HHH win the Rumble (everybody is HAPPY!). Cena returns the next night to challenge Roborton at No Way Out to get his belt back. Cena wins...again. Then you head to WrestleMania with more sense. Cena said he wanted to headline WM (he had it guaranteed with the rumble win), but instead he just challenges Orton at NWO and hope to win to once again headline WrestleMania?

I really can't get too angry about this. I mean, we knew it was coming. I'm not really sure anything's been compromised.

I actually really like that they're having Orton/Cena at WrestleMania. Firstly, I don't want to see Orton vs. Cena at WrestleMania. They had some good matches last year, and an arguably great feud, but I don't care about either guy, neither is really as established as they ought to be by now (especially Cena, who beats everybody), and I feel like the main event of WrestleMania needs someone who was at least known to be alive during the Attitude era. Orton and Cena were technically born, but any meaning in their careers wasn't. I hate the idea of John Cena vs. Triple H, but I'd prefer it ever-so-slightly to Orton vs. Cena.

As for what this does for the Rumble? I don't think it hurts it nearly as much as everyone is making out. The Rumble was quite frankly, in my opinion, getting boring as a WrestleMania main event locker. It makes sense that Cena wants Orton sooner rather than later, and that he is willing to request his match at No Way Out. Eddie Guerrero won a Royal Rumble to get a shot at No Way Out, I don't see why Cena can't. If the Rumble winner goes on to win a World Title at WrestleMania every year, eventually the event will become less special.

What the WWE have done has at least made the Rumble more organic and uncertain. The focus might once again be on it, and not necessarily on the WrestleMania main event (something which has taken away from recent Rumbles, if you ask me).

It absolutely baffles me how more and more of the IWC are getting on this man's dick as the greatest thing in professional wrestling.

Basically they are doing this because they want to get the belt on Cena as quick as possible.

I can't speak for everyone, but my guess would be, we all thought we'd have at least till April without Cena, meaning other guys would get better spots in this years Wrestlemania etc. We all knew Cena would be back, but I'm personally disappointed it was so damn fast. I've enjoyed the last 3 months without him.

Don't they "waste" the Royal Rumble every year?

Well OK, maybe not waste it but they say the winner of the Rumble is going to main event WrestleMania and then they pull this. It's not the first time it's happened, either, so it's getting old.

So what's worse: this scenario, or an alternate scenario where a person in the MitB match was taken out mysteriously (by some heel to further a storyline perhaps), then Cena showed up as the surprise replacement, won the match, then came out after the WM main event, pinned the champ, then did NOT turn heel the next night?

I mean, that's total fart out my ass, but I'm just testing theoretical what if's.

Oh, that wasn't a jab at you, but rather a lot of the IWC which is talking up how great Cena is now.

I like the MITB scenario better. Cena being in a Ladder Match would at least not be like entering #30 in the Rumble and winning. Plus, it adds two wins to Cena's WrestleMania resume, which fuels my "Cena getting a WrestleMania streak" idea. The guy would be 6-0 after this.
