View Full Version : Random Drunken Question: Masked Kane...would he get a push?

Just something I've thought about occasionally whilst completely sober, and decided to ask about it now that I'm drunk and internetting it:
Would Masked Kane, whether it be a refocusing and refining of Kane's character, or merely nostalgia, be enough to get him that solid World Title reign a lot of people think he deserve?
Also, if you had to put Kane back in a mask, how would you do it, and would it be one of his early designs, or a completely new look for Kane?
No.
He'll always be the main event jobber.

a.) I'd have put him back in the mask after he feuded with Fake Kane. That seemed to be where that whole thing was going anyway, but then... nothing.
b.) The other thing I've suggested repeatedly would be to play up that eery-crazy sort of shtick he had going for a while when he was stalking Lita and shit. My original thought was to put him in a Hannibal-esque muzzle, but now that would lead to Abyss jokes.

But no, it wouldn't get him a push.

The thing about masks is that they build mystique and give a character a certain aura. But it could be said that for Kane that's already been ruined by years without it, and that there is "no chance" that Kane's going to get revitalized by putting it back on him.
On the other hand, look at Rey Mysterio. WCW took his mask off for about three years and he floundered around and did next to nothing. WWE signed him, put the mask back on him and he became a freakin' superstar.
Maybe comparing Kane and Mysterio is like comparing apples and oranges and maybe it's really a bad comparison, but something else I'd like to say is that I don't think it's the lack of mask that has made Kane what he is now. If WWE wants Kane to be a dominant monster, they don't need to put a mask on him--they just have to do more stuff like him attacking people with that hook-and-chain from See No Evil, or setting fire to people, and dominating people in matches. That's it. It isn't that hard. Not that exact same stuff, because those things were done, but you know what I mean?
The point is if WWE doesn't want to make Kane look like a true main-event level talent, then he won't. I don't think the mask is the problem.

What they should do is put an Undertaker mask on Kane and say that Kane is stealing his brother's essence leading to a Taker's Essence On A Pole match at wrestlemania where they battle in a ladder match to see who grabs Taker's essence first.
Only if they treated like him a bad ass and had him no selling shit like the F-U and Tombstone and Pedigree and shit, and just Chokeslamming everyone and running roughshod over the mid and undercard like they were paper. And he would need a mouthpiece, because Kane speaking is a no-no.

I'm going to disagree and say that it would. Nostalgia is a proven force in professional wrestling, even acts that really shouldn't be remembered. Hacksaw Jim Duggan, for example, actually has a contracted place on the roster.
Kane putting on the mask, even if Kane in general has been treated without the utmost care, would probably give him all this (probably wrong) "Hey! Look! It's Kane, and he has a new mask!" attention. The WWE could also market Kane a lot easier with it. I know a lot of people like him without the mask, as do I, and it's sure got to be liberating for Glen Jacobs, but the mask made Kane stand out, and really made him marketable, I think.
While the mask itself would not be getting the push, and the performer would be, which stands to reason he does not need the mask, and rather just destroy people left and right, I think the renewed image would do Kane a lot of good as far as the writers and people in charge being interested in him goes. Then the monster booking follows. Think of the mask as an instigator to Kane getting booked as he should, even if it is for the stupid reason of the writers' ADD.

As for how to get the mask back, I've always suggested this:
Kane is a psychopath, right? The one guy we're yet to see him really destroy is himself. Just have Kane taken out one week, maybe by Edge, Chavo Guerrero, Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins. Kane then appears a few SmackDown!s later on the titantron, where he is cutting a promo, talking about the pain he felt when he was put down by those four men, and how it was the second most excruciating pain of his life, but then he remembered what the most excruciating was. Kane then holds up his old mask, and just looks at it, then looks back to the camera and says something about needing to re-acquaint himself with that pain to truly understand how to inflict it on others again.
Kane then does his maniacal laugh (that laugh is money), and then he turns, and then something with camera angles is done, or even special effects as the angle would be taped, and Kane sticks his own face in a furnace, or something. You hear him screaming, and when he's done, he straps on the mask, and then turns, and we've got the old Kane back.
Or, you can make the character slightly different, and just use this Kane as kind of the unmasked Kane, in a mask, if that makes sense. Kind of like the muzzle idea someone had. Kane could remove the mask when he gets pissed off during matches, and use it to really turn on the psycho-killer angle. Kane's a pretty good talker, so using him in a talking role would be using him to the best of his abilities, but talking with the mask is a bit awkward.
So yeah, my suggestion: Kane burns his face, then becomes a new Masked Kane, who is still as demented as unmasked Kane. Eventually there comes a time (probably when The Undertaker confronts him, and when his burns heal in kayfabe), where he removes the mask, and then becomes two-sides of Kane. There's the Kane in the mask that does not feel pain; the remorseless machine...and there's Kane when he takes off the mask, who is a lot less unpredictable and less likely to stop with his onslaught.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan wasn't going to win the title even in his prime.
The WWE have pushed a lot of nostalgia acts recently. Often at the expense of younger acts. I'm not saying this is a good thing, but I think in Kane's case, the stupidity of the WWE would be used for the good.
Nostalgia can only take you so far, but it does get you somewhere, and it hasn't stopped the WWE from trying. The Undertaker has gone back to his gimmick after years of saying he preferred being the American Badass. The only reason that character is still around is the nostalgia.
Hulk Hogan is kind of in an orbit of his own, but whenever he shows up, it's never anything new. It's always Hulkamania this, go over everyone and "give them the rub" that. Hell, the Battle Royal at the RAW XV show was arguably the most entertaining part of the night, and that was fueled by nostalgia.

Knowing the WWE, Kane will burn his crotch instead of his face and wear a cup on his crotch. He will then start referring to the "Monster Inside The Cup" and Vince will finally be able to use that idea they wanted to do in Kane's movie where he has a 15 foot ding dong.
They can even have him "Impress" the divas by taking off his crotch cup in front of them.

Yes, I know you're joking around, but if it leads to my tag team of "The Big Red Machine" Kane and "The Big Valbowski" Val Venis, I will be a happy camper.

It would probably get him a push, yeah. I could see him becoming champ on Smackdown, but not on Raw. On Raw he'd probably just get the main event feud, but with John Cena/Triple H/Whichever one isn't the champ at the moment. Then after a bit he'd just fade back down again. He'd probably fade back down again on Smackdown too, after a short title run that would most likely end at the hands of Undertaker or Batista (after his sixth try).

After unmasked Kane had run it's course in like 2004 or so, they should have had someone burn or injure his face in kayfabe, give him 6 or so months off, and had him come back masked and with hair and gotten a big push before getting jobbed back out.

I hate almost everyone in this thread....
Take Kane out for a few weeks. Have Edge and the Edge Heads jump Kane, which leads to many conchairtos. Have someone back stage say Glen Jacobs is in rehab. I'll get pissed off and get made fun of for my tattoo while everyone else is eating it up.
Two weeks after during an Edge promo have Kane's pyro's go off and a message on the titan tron kinda like the last time Kane came back with his mask. "The First Still Burns" or something like that. Next week Edge is in the middle of a match. He could be fighting Hornswoggle for all I care with plans on Hornswoggle going over. Kane's pryo's hit, same message, but this time there's a shot of a pair of bloody Edge Heads in the parking lot. Small voice over, "Next week, it'll be YOU!"
To open or close the show Edge is entering or leaving the building, when he sees that Chavo is laying in a pool of blood. Edge goes to help, and then we hear Kane laugh. Kane grabs him by the throat and Edge begs for mercy.
Now the mask comes into play. It'll be more open than his last mask with a better view of his eyes, and closed on top since he's bald. Other than that, same basic second mask.
"I'll give you anything you want!"
"I want what you value most."
"Money? You want money? I'll transfer money to any account you have!"
"No."
"I'll give you a title shot in any match you want! Hell in a cell, inferno, burried alive, anything!"
"No."
"Then what the hell do you want!?!?!"
"Vickie."
Kane just pushes Edge with one hand on his ass and leaves.
This leave it open. Why does he want Vickie? To love or to hurt? Will Edge protect her, or cut and run? Of course no matter what the answer is it leads to a title shot in two months, which leads to Kane's second title run which will hopefully be at least 60 times longer than his last one.

I'd have him be involved in another accident where he was pushed into a fire by John Cena, forcing him to put a new mask on and come back angrier than ever feud with him and win the title, this could also be done by Taker or Edge I suppose. Even Batista.

It's kind of weird that Kane and Val Venis both support Ron Paul, are libertarians and are both apparently "too nice" to get to the level they deserve. Lance Storm has gone on record having said that Sean Morley deserves a push, but is too nice to push himself in front of others, and I've heard that story about Kane, which is honourable, but dammit Kane, you deserve a World Title run.

She's going to be on TV due to the fact that she's getting the lime light over Eddie's dead body so they may as well make her a tool to get people over. Besides, we don't know if Kane wants to get some Latina heat, or beat her within an inch of her life because Kane's a monster. Also, the push that I'd give him would be the for WHC, and since Edge is the WHC and Vickie is with Edge you can't ignore her in this.

Seriously, fuck you. "Getting the lime light over Eddies dead." Because enough people loved Eddie in the company, guess what? THEY'RE STILL FEEDING HIS KIDS. But not for free, Vickie works for the company in exchange for her family not having to starve. Exploiting Eddie? What do you think he would have wanted? Her to go to work at the local Wal-Mart or get a job that would put their kids through colledge?

Okay, when you're providing a service or some sort of entertainment it's stupid to give a TERRIBLY underqualified person a job even if it has a "noble" reason. They could give her a job as a commentator, an editor for WWE magazine or any number of other things, but they choose to give at least twenty minutes of every Smackdown show to her. Either they're amazingly stupid, or there's something more than just genuine nobility behind the whole "Let's put Vickie on tv" thing.
