The WWF have Flair vs. Hogan for the WWF Title at WM8...I don't get it...it was SO DAMN OBVIOUS....

which means there's backstage politics involved..

KayfabeMang? Rob? anyone?

From what I understand,Hogan was set to retire after that WM.

He (Hogan) didn't want to lose to Flair at the show, but instead
wanted to retire with the belt (similar to the Bret Hart deal years
later),and McMahon was against that.

So,he (Vince) set up a double main event for Wrestlemania instead.

Hope that that helps somewhat :y:

Yeah, it was wierd, I remember they had the press conference where Tunney announced that Hogan was going to challenge Flair, only to have the match changed to Flair vs Savage.

And once again, who can blame Vince for not wanting to let someone basically abscond with the WWF title?

On the subject of strange WrestleMania main events... if Stone Cold Steve Austin won the 1997 Royal Rumble, why did the Undertaker challenge Sid for the title at Mania instad?

Shawn Michaels was supposed to lose the 'WWF Title' to Bret
Hart at WM13,but did not want to.So they set up an angle to
where Shawn forfeited the title, and they had a 4-way match
with Vader,Bret Hart,Undertaker and (I think) Austin - for it.

Bret (IIRC) won that four-way, but on RAW lost the title to Sid
Vicious; which set up Sid and The Undertaker @ WM13, and led
to Hart-Austin with Shamrock as referee. Hope that that helped :y:

OK, thanks... I assume the whole "Lost my Smile" shit, was the very same forfeit.

What does IIRC stand for? It's not exactly obvious to me, for whatever reason.

IIRC, it's "If I Remember/Recall Correctly."

As for Flair vs. Hogan. I don't know if Vince ever planned for that match to happen but Hogan and Flair had been doing house show feuds since Flair came in and they had burnt out the box office so they didn't think it would draw at Mania.

ya it should have been Hogan/Flair but Savage/Flair was just fine

At the end of the day, you got a better match plus you got to see Sid kick out of the legdrop like it was nothing which was hilarious!

hogan/Flair would have been the bigger draw, but Savage/Flair was the better wrestling match, like you said...its a shame they didnt put it on the Flair DVD.

That's the whole arguement. Would it have been a better draw? Most Americans who had attended house shows for the previous 7 months had seen that match to death.

And lesnar. :|

Goldberg kicked out of about 3 of them actually, that match when it zooms to hennig coming up the aisle you can hear the sound of another hitting and when it goes back to the ring hes hitting the third.
