View Full Version : Should WWE continue "One Night Stand"?
This year will be the 4th year they hold the event, and the 2nd time as a full brand show. However, I think it's questionable to hold this event as it was originally a one time thing for the ECW fans. I mean then it all made sense...it was a one night return of ECW (thus the name "One Night Stand"), and was a non-wwe style PPV. Now 3 years later, holding the same event ment for ECW with the WWE style wrestling and wrestlers, and you have a name that no longer makes sense for the PPV. :-\
Then again, I'm looking from logic from the guys who gave you the Goobly Gooker. :|

I don't really think they should call it one night stand, but more of ECW Watered Down Crapfest
Doesn't matter, it's just a known PPV name at this point. The world didn't end at the first Armageddon and it really wasn't a "One Night Stand".
In fact, at this point it's at least an affair.
Lol the 4th one night stand. This sucks man, bring back bad blood or some other ppv. The wwe is the old dying wcw with money and no ted.

WWE isn't WCW. TNA is WCW. WWE is WWE.

Nope, the first one was good, then from there on they just started sneaking regular wwe matches into what was meant to be an ecw ppv. The first ONS was probably the most entertained ive been watching wrestling in years.
If they go back to how the original one was then yeah continue it, if not.. then fuck it.

I don't even think they should go back to the first one. Lets say for a second they could get any and all ECW guys to come back, the only ones worth getting back (and I'm judging very loosely) would be the Dudleys, RVD, Tommy Dreamer, Stevie Richards, Justin Credible, Rhino, and probably Steve Corino...o and Lance Storm if he feels up to it. Of that list, they can't/won't get the Dudleys or Rhino. I could be wrong, but they have never expressed interest in Corino. And I honestly have no idea what shape Justin is in. So they could possibly get back RVD. Dreamer and Richards are regularly jobbing on ECW currently now. I suppose Sandman would be ok as well.
So the rest of the ppv would be guys that have ties to ECW like Jericho or Mysterio (and we all know how well they did last time around). Or Foley for his 30 come back.
I guess my point is, even if they wanted to, by now there would be no point in even trying to do the original one night stand concept, I mean with out digging really deep to find guys.

They should just bring King of the Ring back instead.

It'd be called WWE Up In Yo Hizzay and the set would be Chain Gang oriented.

KotR would be great.
The ONS name has run its course.

Was gonna say pretty much exactly this

If there is no ECW original on the show, the name definitely needs to be changed. I think they should change it back to King of the Ring, or even bring back Fully Loaded.

Just because the original One Night Stand was an ECW PPV, doesn't mean the name no longer makes sense.
As BDC said, the first One Night Stand was lightning in a bottle... you couldn't hold another "ECW reunion" show now even if they wanted to, as the ECW name is tarnished and there's next to nobody left to appear in it.
As a WWE PPV, I wouldn't mourn the loss of One Night Stand, but it doesn't bother me if they keep it either. It only happens once a year, therefore for One Night only per year they put on this show. If last year is anything to go by, ONS is now the official gimmick match PPV of the year (like a more varied version of TNA Lockdown) with every match having some kind of "extreme stipulation". This happens but once a year, therefore its a "one night stand".
It's not perfect, and maybe the ONS name should be dropped to distance it from its image as "an ECW PPV", but I'm hardly offended by it.

Despite the original ONS being one of the best cards so far this decade and a hard standard to compete with, and the second one featuring the RVD title win and still a modicum of the original ECW feel, I actually enjoyed last years show too (if I remember correctly). That makes One Night Stand 3-0 for satisfying shows in my opinion. That's not a bad record at all.

JT Kool. My advice would be to buy an ECW DVD in the run up to One Night Stand. Then instead of watching the PPV, put on the DVD instead.
Not only will it be some kind of mock re-union in your mind, but also a much better show.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: No, it's stupid. And it reminds everyone of their total burial of original ECW talent and ideas.

If they do, they should change the name from One Night Stand to "ECW is a Whore".
ONE: If anyone thought my point was that they should use it for the ECW concept again, they are wrong. I'm saying the point of the name was that it was the one night return of ECW, and that now having it every year with the whole WWE roster doesn't make sense.
TWO: Bring back KotR is a fucking awesome idea, and I don't know why I didn't say that in my first post. :y:

They did a few years ago. For Booker T and it was the best thing for him in years, and they worked him with Bobbly Lashley, before they ruined him.

No, kill One Night Stand, and make have only 12 Pay Per Views a year. Also, make 5 of the PPVs all brand, and then have 3 Raw Only PPVs and 3 SmackDown/ECW PPVs.
Jan- Royal Rumble
Feb- SmackDown/ECW
Mar- NO PPV
April- WM
May-Smackdown/ECW
June- KoTR
July-Raw
Aug-Summer Slam
Sept-Smackdowm/ECW
Oct-Raw
Nov- Survivor Series
Dec-Raw
PPV Clusterfuck Fixed. It'll give each "brand" (and by brand I only mean the groups that go on tour with each other since SmackDown and ECW are the same basic thing nowadays) more time to bulid up wrestlers between PPVs, and it'll give each brand it's own chance to create its own style.
Why a no PPV before WM?
Who'll buy a dual brand PPV that month when an even BETTER dual brand ppv is in 5 weeks? Have more importiant matches on TV to help boost buy rates for WM.
Or have a dual brand PPV that leaves you on a cliff hanger. Either way you do it this has to be the prelude to WM.

Yea, they brought it back for one year, but as a seperate event at the Great American Bash. I think the PPV name alone though is gold and worth money. It should really just become the dominate name of the June PPV again.

I say, go ahead and pull together one more TRUE ECW event like the first ONS, but make it the grand send-off. It's obvious it would never happen again, so call it "ECW One Last Stand", and be done with it. From then on, KotR, b/c any event that leads to the eventual dismissal of Booker Tedious is an event worth repeating.

They're not going back to split PPVs. They tried and failed.

No they shouldn't. They should bring back fully loaded in place of it, love that name for a ppv. Btw who wants to bet the ecw title wont even be defended at the '4th night stand' ppv?
