View Full Version : Highlander Should Be Awesome, But It Isn't

When me and my older brother checked "some sword fighting movie" way back when and got introduced to one of the most badass movie themes of all time, we became fans of the Highlander. But aside from a decent TV series starring one Adrian Paul, just about every other product from the franchise absolutely blows.

How does something with a concept as totally freakin awesome as Highlander produce trash like Endgame and The Source?

-You're an immortal who ceases to age if you suffer a violent death. After that only a beheading can do you in.
-You can't fight on Holy Ground.
-Your killer will gain all of your knowledge and experience during an in-doors thunder storm called a Quickening.
-Many blood thirsty immortals hunt for heads in what is called the Game. The last warriors contend for the Prize in a tournament called the Gathering (which in current continuity hasn't happened yet). And in case you haven't heard, "There can be only one."

And all of this is decided by SWORDS! Why has this franchise suffered?!? What can be done to improve it? Will a reboot help? C'mon!

You couldn't have used the thread on Highlander: The Source?

Anyway, Endgame was fine.

The novelty in seeing Conner and Duncan together again was all good and all, and Donnie Yen ruled, but the iffy editing near the end really bothered me. Yeah it had the most important moment in the franchise, but the movie has a whole could've been much better.

I'd love to see a series reboot at this point. After The Source, the series really needs it.

I'm gonna win the lottery and buy all the rights to Highlander.

Who else has the Queen song going trough their head now?

Princes of the Universe? Or one of the other dozen they added to the movie?

The first and fourht movies were good as well as the frst two seasons of the show. Other than that it's been full of let downs. Dont get me wrong I love Highlander. But how has it produced a lot of pure shit.

I've liked the majority of Highlander products. Highlander, of course, was awesome, and I liked Highlander: The Final Dimension and Endgame. I liked most of Highlander the series, though the prophecy shit got to me. At the point I can't enjoy a plot with a Zoroastrian theme, "somethin' wrooooong wit dat." Though I loved the Four Horsemen theme, and Joe and Methos were two of my favorite characters, period.

Methos is the shit.

I think Thomas Jane should play a young Connor Macleod in flashbacks or something if they ever add flashbacks to future movies as he bears a resemblance to Christopher Lambert.

Soooo

If one wished to get into it what is essential for the continuity?

I see that there are 4 different continuities so what is important to watch?

Also did the gathering happen in another continuity?

In part 1/2 the gathering occured. 3 and down the series was retconed to keep the game going (wise decision). The Duncan series takes place in the 3-down continuity. God knows what that Raven crap was about.

TPWW really does have the magic to make things happen simply by complaining...

Highlander is getting a full fledged reboot by the writing team that penned Iron Man. It'll be produced by the same guy who produced the first (Peter Davis).

Yay.

I'm excited they're getting a reboot, but that's almost part of the problem to me, each movie seems like it's trying to be a reboot without actually being a reboot.

They're recasting Conner. Yeah, that's a reboot.
