Okay, I thought the idea of RTM was worth it, just implemented poorly. So I'm going to start a new one, and do it a little differently. For one thing, there will be one thread a week, so none of this clogging the board up with 90 topics a day. For another, I'm not going to bother with shit nobody cares about. I'm actually going to take suggestions, so give them.

Finally, you can list your rating in the thread, and discuss it, but I'm only going to count the votes in the upcoming poll to the tally. that way there's a clear breakdown and a clear time limit.

This will continue until I know people aren't interested or something shiny captures my attention.

This week is David Bowie. If you need to be told who Bowie is, you probably don't have a computer. Poll coming.

Like I said, if there's no interest, I'll let it die. I got the impression that people had a problem with FA's more because of the way he conducted it.

I admit, it did cluster the board, then again, once a week is a little slow, I would suggest, maybe one on a wednesday, and another on saturday, that way people dont forget, and you dont forget about it.

Taking suggestions will result in exactly the same bands and artists being rated as last time KK, you know enough about music of all genres to keep some variety going on with this thing, so yeah, don't take suggestions:foc:

Also 9

Rate the Wrestler, Rate the Game, and now "The Better Wrestler" are all done on a weekly basis and they work.

Anyway, anyone has any suggestions for next week, feel free to drop them. If I don't have any suggestions by next week, I'll pick something arbitrarily from my collection.

Although obviously the problem with putting any variety into this is trailblazing and/or critically acclaimed artists who aren't of an alt-rock persuasion will recieve awful ratings from atleast half of the people who vote

Well, FA didn't exactly take all suggestions. Also, we had groups like Staind and Rhianna, who will likely not get rated. Mostly because if someone suggests them, I will kill them!

:shifty:

No, but I'm going to go with acts I think people will actually give a shit about, I just want suggestions to bump potentials up the queue.

Yeah, but that's the hazard of anything based in part on popularity or subjective opinion. It's still "fun," though, which is why I'm ressurecting it.

True, I guess its always gonna be fruitless trying to get impartial critique out of metal fans:roll:

Metal fans? 80% of this board listens to "pop punk" and wusscore.

I dunno, Fake, Blitz and Clox (for example) listen to a lot of weird stuff but they seem to appreciate a wide variety of music and won't slate a group or artist based their designated genre, its the metal/alt rock fans who do that:-\

Personally when I vote I based it upon:

Personal opinion
Musicianship
Songwriting
Influence

I do not particularly enjoy Judas Priest for instance, I'd sooner listen to Rihanna, but I don't doubt the huge influence they had on a lot of bands I do like, I'd give them a 4 or 5 based purely on that, not a flat 0 because I want to prove a point about how commited I am to my particular musical leanings.

I'm hit or miss on him. I love some of his stuff, and I'm rather meh on other stuff.

Also, at some point you should do KMFDM

He gets a 5 for having flashes of brilliance, but as a whole he's horribly overrated.

Well, Clox only likes what he's told to like. Frazor and Blitz have some interesting leanings, but the majority of the board do not, and it's not just along metal/alt rock lines, unless teenybopper punk is alt rock. But then, if it is, I guess most shit is alt-rock.

Those are more or less the same factors I include. In Bowie's case, he's a brilliant, multitalented musician with a massive legacy and solid songwriting. The only thing that keeps me from giving him a perfect score is the fact that half his 80s records were MOTR at best. Though I think it's unfair to pan him for everything in the 80s, there were quite a few flat albums.

I'm hit or miss on him. I love some of his stuff, and I'm rather meh on other stuff.

I'll keep KMFDM in mind. I don't know them very well, but I want to take suggestestions especially to seed artists I wouldn't think of/don't listen to/etc.

I'd say Metallica, but I know they'd get screwed by you fucking cunts, so no.

They did ok last time, not overly, but decent.

Went with a 7. As for a suggestion or two.. I'd like to toss Modest Mouse out there, followed by Muse. Two of my favorites out there and I know a few other people who like one or the other, possibly both..

I'd rate him about an 8
