View Full Version : The who goes last at Mania thread
It is pretty obvious that Raw will get the last one but with taker and edge wrestling in dark matches and house shows I have my fingers crossed for a traditional one on one contest for the richest prize in the industry ( in j.r's opinion ). As far as Chavo is concerned I don't see him in the 3 main events with the wwe having a divas match prior to their last match.

It’s blatantly going to be the 3 way
The last time Smackdown got the main event was Wrestlemania 19 wasn’t it?

Agree with Dave on this. There's no way that a HHH title match will not main event, even though the crowd will probably prefer Taker-Edge.
We had a lot of smackdown ppv main events last year BTW.
I just hope it gets a place in the 3 billed main events at mania.

Yeah but there were more Raw PPV main events last year than Smackdown main events. Raw, more often than not, gets priority over Smackdown. Take No Way Out 2008 as an example - 2 Elimination Chamber matches, the Smackdown Elimination Chamber match was the second match on the PPV, yet the Raw Elimination Chamber match was the main event. Edge vs Taker should be the main event this year, but it won't be.

It'll be the 3 way, but I always think the main event of Wrestlemania should be one on one

Even for WM XX?

Even for WM XX?
There’s an exception to every rule.
Because of the total lack of build between Eddie and Angle (what was it, 3 weeks?) there was no way that was going to get the main event for that show. Benoit had been pushed since November for a title (after Heyman told him he wouldn’t get another shot on Smackdown) so it made a lot more sense for that to have the main event spot.
This year the Taker/Edge feud has had a lot more time than the 3 way, technically the Edge/Taker feud started in Spring last year!!! And they still haven’t had a one on one match, I agree that it should main event as I think it would be more warmly received. But there’s no way Vince is going to take he’s 3 (allegedly) biggest stars and not have them close the show.
What I’m going to find really interesting is where the Flair match and also the Mayweather matches go, even though there’s not really a total stand out match on this one (but then there hasn’t been since Mania XX IMO) there are 4 really strong matches that I’m interested in seeing, which is a good thing, so it’s spreading the overall interest

Yeah, it should easily be the Orton-HHH-Cena three way.
No offense, but the Edge-Undertaker match is so terribly predictable since its at Wrestle fucking Mania so it should realyl not be in the main event.

Cena won the Rumble so his match should be the main event.

No it shouldn't as technically Cena's already used his WM title shot at No Way Out. Undertaker should have definately been in the main event match last year (especially considering he eliminated Michaels last) yet Michaels and Cena get the main event match instead. No fucking reason given for that either.

Even though he cashed his title shot in at No Way Out?
LOL
SD has won 4 of the past 5 Royal Rumbles
RAW has main evented 4 of the past 5 WrestleManias

Taker vs. Edge will be top of the 3rd hour, before BunnyMania and Show/Mayweather.
If this is indeed Ric Flair's final hoorah then in my opinion that match should go second-to-last. This is Ric Flair for fuck sake and his match in all honesty on any other PPV (minus the Rumble) would probably close the show. If it is indeed his final match then it and the triple threat should follow the BunnyMania match which is preceded by Show/Mayweather and Edge/Taker.

Edge and Taker will be the third match on the card, after MITB and some other match.

Taker's going over, most obviously, but it won't neccessarily be a clean finish. A DQ or count out is possible (although I hate cheap finishes on PPV, especially at WrestleMania). The only result which would warrant Edge vs Taker going on last would be an Edge win. As that is highly unlikely, it's position on the card should simply be determined by whether the ending will be clean or cheap.

Batista won it a few years ago and he was Raw. So that is 2 winners at least of Raw in the past 5 years.

Yeah, I meant excluding Cena's win.
SmackDown won 03, 04, 06 and 07 but RAW main evented 04, 06 and 07 thanks to Benoit jumping ship, Rey's dumb booking + HHH/Cena being a bigger match and well, not sure why Taker/Batista didn't main event. I guess just 'cause it's Cena.

And the Triple Threat isn't predictable?
It will be Orton/Triple H/Cena, but a good case can be made for Edge vs. Undertaker. It's a one-on-one match, there isn't a Rumble winner involved (the Rumble winner has not headlined since Batista), SmackDown! has had a few closing matches recently, and it'll end in the face victory.
I don't see why Edge winning would warrant it closing the evening. I think it should close mainly because The Undertaker winning won't piss as many people off as Cena winning. Plus, the match will be deceptively good, I think. Edge going over, or The Undertaker winning via countout or DQ would be better suited to an earlier placing on the card, in my opinion.

I think Edge should beat 'Taker via Screwjob. End the streak in a way so cheap that it would make Edge an even bigger heel.

Right now, I am liking that idea.
Have Vickie Guerrero make the World Heavyweight Championship match No Holds Barred. This allows Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins to get involved. Chavo could also theoretically be a factor, but he loses to Kane earlier in the evening, in a way that bangs him up pretty bad.
During the match, The Undertaker is fairly dominant, but then we get trips down memory lane, as Vickie Guerrero sends down opponents from Undertaker's past. Jimmy Snuka, Jake Roberts, Giant Gonzales (yes, Giant Gonzales), King Kong Bundy, Sycho Sid, Mark Henry, and maybe even A-Train come to the ring at different intervals, and try and beat down Taker to the point where Edge can defeat him.
Kane's music then hits, and out comes the new ECW Champion. Kane clears the ring of everybody, giving Chokeslams to Ryder, Hawkins and maybe A-Train. Kane then looks to set up Edge for a Chokeslam, having turned the tides of the match, but instead he grabs his recovering brother, and destroys him with a Chokeslam, which allows Edge to get the pin, retain the World Heavyweight Championship, and end the streak of The Undertaker.
People may not get too excited about another Kane vs. Undertaker feud, especially over the ECW Championship, but I think that brand needs something. Especially if CM Punk moves somewhere else, or turns heel. The Undertaker has never been better in the ring, and Kane is as solid in the ring as he's ever been. Some may never want to see another chapter ever written, but I'd like to see Kane take glory for himself, and claim to be the man responsible for ending Taker's streak.
I think there were rumors that Taker would be happy to drop the streak to Kane, but Kane felt that someone younger would benefit more. This takes the best of both worlds and applies it in the best way possible.
