They're taxing whoever buys the game for extra weapons. Weapons that are aready playtested and 'balanced'. Sort of like extra music in Rock Band, but... well ya know... f'd up.
Note that they tried this crap with Madden a few years back charging for different uniforms.
I'm sure somebody's gonna come on here with the requisite "they're a business" speach but whatever -in-advance. That stuff's wild.

And there are people stupid enough to buy them.

Well, to anyone who pulls that argument, they ought to know that all business practices aren't cool.

Is it fair? No.
Is it a smart short term gain? Hell yes.
Idiots will be happy to be taken advantage of until they move on to the next big shooter.

Kalyx, have you been paying attention at all to what's been going on lately?
EA is seemingly attempting to buy the entire third party industry. So this really should come as no surprise.

Yeah, they're building a monopoly on the industry. Dark time ahead and such.

Greedy is definitely more like it.
But hey. People will buy the shit. EA knows it, and you know it.
I don't agree with anything said in this thread. On both sides.

Haha.
EA started it in Battlefield 2 on the PC by releasing expansions that allow people who bought them to use expansion only weapons when playing on servers with people who dont have the expansion. I stopped playing Battlefield 2 then and said "Next thing they're gonna sell individual weapons and stuff so whoever pays most gets the best gear". People said "OMG NO WAI!!!" but, yup, yes way. Oh well.

I think Fight Night 3 is an excellent example of EA at their laziest.

They're not really the first to be honest. I'm pretty sure others have done this. Doesn't really make a huge difference. If the weapons are balanced then there is no need to have them, if you're a big enough fan you want them - purchase them. Yeah it's a little greedy and the consumer isn't gaining the value of say a map pack for their purchase, but bottom line is it is still up to the consumer rather they want these weapons or not.

If the default weaponary is plentiful enough, I have no problem with this. But if the default is bare minimum, and you have to buy everything else, then thats crap.

Not to speak for the man but just for example when you win a title in FN3 and then don't even bring it out to the ring with you - that's pretty stupid.
Also being stuck with one entrance song which you don't even get to choose. Lots of little things.
Then state your opinion or GTFO. :)
Not much else to say really. I don't think they should do it but I don't think they are doing it because they are lazy or greedy. This is just like what that Gran Turismo game was going to do. For some reason developers believe that micro transactions are going to be the next big thing. It's stupid.

Rock Band/Guitar Hero/FPS Map Packs = Good Micro-Transactions

Yarrrrrrr,
Well, first I'd like to say, I love playing Fight Night 3 with my friends, it's pretty much the only game we play. I also, enjoyed the Single player, it just lacks so much depth and polish it isn't even funny. Although I think the engine is great.
The music is horrible, The commentary is Horrible, when it works. The Amount of boxers you get is OK, but nothing to write home about. It's like EA pretty much used FN3 as a tech demo for FN4, whenever that comes out...

You know, I kinda agree with that. I mean, I like a couple of the songs in that game (Dilated Peoples and Atmosphere = sex), but the game was kinda missing features. I don't know if the 360 version is the same as the PS2 version (the one I have), but the red on red layout gets annoying fast.
Also, accept my god damn friend request already.
