Video editing PC problem

Right, so evertime I try and open a video editing prgm on my PC it just dissapears.

I have tried Canopus ProCoder, Powerdirector6, WinAVi. It doesn't matter what it is, I just about get to open the file I want to edit and the pgrms just fuck off.

Yeah, not the specs.

I doubt that they do, but it could be that they share the same codec library and something's fucked there. Does Windows Movie Maker work? (I'm assuming the video actually plays.)

Yeah media player works, dunno about windows movie maker, I never use it.

Is this happening with ALL video files or just some?

Are you running Google Desktop by any chance?

I had this problem a while back and Google Desktop is always scanning the drives for new additions and changes. When it does this, it effectively "opens" the files (for want of a better word) which then stops a second program from opening the file as well.

Try turning off Google Desktop and trying again.

Again, as Xero said, it can also be a codec conflict. If you have G-Spot, run the file through this and it will tell you if you have the right codec.

But either way, try re-installing your video card drivers.

No I don't have Google desktop,

Anyway I uninstalled all my editing software and codec pack, and reinstalled PowerDirector6 and Canopus Procoder3 and they work.

Playing files was never a problem, just editing them. I guess it was a codec conflict, or that I had too many different editing pgrms installed.

BTW which do you prefer PD6 or CP3?

I use CP3 for convering files to DVD, like chiucking 2 episodes of Torchwood on one DVD so my mate with a DVD player that doesn't play .avi's can watch it., I use PD6 for editing clips, like getting rid of the ad breaks in Underbelly, and editing home movies.

So two different applications - if i'm doing a straight conversion I'll use CP3 everytime.
