View Full Version : Batista versus Shawn Michaels

Fox

So, I don't know how many of you caught the confrontation between HBM and Batista on Smackdown, but it was pretty awesome.

Basically, Shawn came out and said that after hugging Flair on RAW he felt he had gained some closure. Batista comes out and says that HBM let his ego get in the way of his friendship with Flair, and he made the wrong decision at WrestleMania.

The video is up on WWE.com. Frankly, I hope this leads to A) a full-on Batista heel turn, and B) a series of matches between Michaels and Batista. Shawn has always had great contests against big men, and I think that this storyline with Batista trying to "stand up" for his fallen mentor and HBM fighting for what he believes was the right thing could make for some good promos.

Thoughts?

*slaps Fox* Nash and Bats are worlds apart. Besides powerbombs, the 2 have nothing in common, and their powerbombs aren't even similar.

That being said, if anyone can get a good match or 3 from Bats, it will be HBM.

I like how it was sort of breaking out of kayfabe. I mean, 'kayfabe' as it once was died when the internet got big surely. And Shawn in a shoot-esque storyline will salivate the IWC in theory....

Batista as a heel is something I want to see. He was initially so cool as a babyface because he wasn't a good guy. He was a suave anti-hero that was fighting the bad guys, and was just two steps ahead of them at all times. I want that Dave back. Complete with dancing.

Batista, when motivated, is pretty solid in the ring. He has had good matches with Triple H, Finlay, Kane, The Undertaker, Mr. Kennedy and MVP. I'm fairly certain he can work some good ones with Shawn Michaels. A move to RAW, a chance to step up as a major heel, and a chance to cut some emotional promos should hopefully be all the motivation Batista needs to put his best foot forward. HBK can do wonders with that.

I watched it, it was pretty cool. It looked like Batista was using emotion to fuel that promo, which is good, it was one of his best in many months. I'm looking forward to this.

I thought Big Dave was less than average in the promo to really get the fued started on Raw. He was never going to come off looking too great with HBM and Jericho in the same segment, but he was ok at best, regardless.

Afterlife
04-08-2008, 06:46 AM
This seems like it might get really redundant, though. Thankfull on Raw, Shawn actually said "I'm tired of goin' in circles with you". The cycle of "I did the right thing" / "No, you didn't" is starting to sound like a broken record. Hopefully we can move it past Ric Flair and make it about Batista's Pride being bruised over never getting a real match with Flair and feeling that he's a greater force than HBM. Otherwise, we'll be grinding this thing into the ground in no time.

Fabien Barthez

Yeah, the door was opened to play on the 'Batista isn't a TRUE top dog in the company' angle.... They will probably make it about Flair though.

I can't think about Ric right now, without hearing that stupid, fake emotioned song they keep playing.

Batista also, apparently, missed the part where Flair said "don't be sad -- I'm not sad," and decided that he had to avenge his fallen friend. That's another thing: Batista acts like Flair is dead. That baffles me. "I'll never ever see my friend again." Everytime he cries like that, I want him to say, "Unless, of course, I visit him, so I can stop crying like a bitch about a non-issue."

Ric Flair may not be sad, but when a person passes away, we generally mourn. Ric Flair is still alive and well, but his career is over, and no matter what Flair says, some will of course still feel some loss in that.

I agree that they need to expand the angle outwards, though. Move it past Flair and directly into an HBK/Batista issue.

So I turned on to SD! tonight to see how they were gonna build this feud. It was going great.

HBK: This isn't about Ric, is it? You've got a problem with me.
DAVE: Hell yeah I got a problem with you.

This is where the shit went straight downhill. For all the angles and spins they could have put on this, from HBK being a joke main eventer (hasn't held the strap since 2002, I think?), or Bats feeling like he isn't respected, or ANYTHING else the resident geniuses can muster, they come up with that Bats is not happy with how HBK got to the top. Stepping on people on his way, screwing people over, etc.

Wait, are we basing this storyline on stuff that happened in 1995? Really? REALLY?

That was thirteen fucking years ago. I can't believe that is the BEST storyline they came up with. It makes Bats look like a whiny bitch. What the hell was he doing in 1995, anyways? The idea that HBK is a terrible human being isn't going to work - his renewed faith has been publicized ad nauseam. But I guess this is the easiest way for Bats to go heel, which is a good thing.

Sorry to vent. I guess this is WWE at its finest - taking a potentially great, long program and putting it on life support with shitty booking like this.

Mr. Nerfect

I can sort of understand what the WWE is doing, though. Using Ric Flair to plant the seeds is the most effective way to kick things off. The program should definitely evolve past it, though. I think Batista's current point isn't that Shawn Michaels doesn't claim to be changed, but that he never did change, and is lying about it, because his shit has caught up to him in the past.

The World Championship thing is a very good idea for inclusion within the feud.
