That Mike guy is no more ECW than Kane, Big Show or Lashley were as ECW Champions.
ECW is no longer "E-C-Dub" its an extension of the WWE brand, and the WWE is going to make sure they present it as such.
Anyone who still can get upset at ECW losing its luster or whatever is really fighting a winless battle.
I'm shocked it took this long for them to get rid of Styles. As a matter of fact when I was going through the tape of Mania, I was kinda shocked he was still broadcasting for ECW.

WWE SPOILER UPDATE
by Buck Woodward @ 2008-04-15 15:58:36
To update what Dave Scherer reported earlier today, sources close to the situation have informed me that with Mike Adamle now announcing ECW with Tazz, Joey Styles is now going to be part of WWE.com, although I'm not sure in what capacity at this time. To address some emails we've received, he is not going to be announcing Smackdown.

Mike Adamle can get better over time. Remember when a lot of people were actually pretty stocked he was coming into the WWE? Granted, that was before "Jeff Harvey."
I personally love the oblivious thing Adamle has going on. It's quite funny, really. I mean, Maria's somewhat entertaining dumb interviewer thing came from her being legitimately out of it.
This Adamle/Tazz team could instantly be great if Tazz is allowed to rip into Adamle whenever he makes a mistake. Tazz should be pissed off his partner has gotten moved, and now he's got to be the star of the ECW team. Tazz can become more of a heel commentator this way, and we can get some identity into them early as an announcing duo.
Joey Styles is too good a commentator to go to waste, though. He really is. I felt he was really de-passioned on ECW, though. I guess he's not going to SmackDown!, but he really should be on one of the two other brands. Jim Ross is getting older and crappier. A three-man team of Joey Styles, Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler could be somewhat intriguing. Ross can be the "sports entertainment announcer," Styles can handle the more technical duties of the team (sort of like Mike Tenay in WCW) and Jerry Lawler can just be shit.
Fuck, have Joey Styles replace Michael Cole on SmackDown!, and move Cole to third man duties. He's not really working well with Coach, and Styles can sort of keep things rolling for them, while Coach and Cole desperately work on getting some familiarity between them. Styles can be lead play-by-play guy, Coach on color, and Cole can just throw in some "did you know" facts occasionally.
At the very least, Styles should replace Todd Grisham on Heat. A Joey Styles/Josh Matthews team would instantly become my favourite commentating duo currently in professional wrestling.

They are moving him to WWE.com? WTF?
Bsically, they hired some announcer for no reason to way bigger contract than a FUCKING NO NAME ANNOUNCER deserves, and they figure they need to find something for him to do.
Mr. Nerfect
04-15-2008, 05:58 PM
They also just signed Timmy Baltimore to a WWE contract. I don't know too much about the guy, but Baltimore has worked in the industry and might have more of a clue. If you wanted to replace Joey Styles, Timmy B. might have been the better choice.

A SmackDown! commentary team I'd like to see: Joey Styles as the play-by-play commentator, and CM Punk as the color commentator. Punk has proved to be a hilarious commentator on the independent scene, and with him mainly working ECW, there is no reason Mr. Money in the Bank cannot do blue brand commentary.
Styles would also probably be pretty motivated to work with Punk, I'd think. I don't know why, I can just see it being a good combination.

Went to the ECW show in London tonight and Tazz, Joey Styles and Mike Adamle all came out together for commentary
I'm pretty excited for tonight.

04-15-2008, 08:10 PM
Ah, good to hear Styles is still there. He can help guide Adamle.
I just wish the WWE would let its commentators do whatever they want. They are misusing Styles greatly, and I feel that Coach is hindered in his growth because he is too focused on trying to be a good "WWE commentator" than a good commentator.

This definitely sucks as Joey is my current favorite announcer. Even if he has been buried since his big promo back in '06. Just too bad Vince hates him. He's been trying to change his style the entire time, and I guess he just figured to get rid of him.

Thing is, I think Styles told a "story" better than any commentator the WWE has. He would get the history of the feud right, and all that. JR and Cole are usually like "This if the first time The Undertaker and Kane have ever met in a wrestling ring!"
Is it me, or does "taking a position on WWE.com" sound like code for "is being pushed to Heat"?

See, people? You bitch and moan about Coach doing a half-assed job on Smackdown, and this is what happens. They aren't going to LISTEN; they simply resent our disapproval of their decision and take away the one thing we actually appreciate.
I, on the other hand, having been fine with Coach's pre-wanna-be-the-bad-guy comentary, hold no responsibility for you all forcing Joey out of his position.:p
ECW is just a waste of space.

Joey Styles commentary is one of the major parts of the iconography of ECW. The fact they have a Gladiators presenter on the show, or a brand of 8 wrestlers who get 1 hour of TV a week just further sway my thoughts on the subject from WTF? to Like it matters.
More people will see his work on the website than ECW thats for damn sure.

As reported earlier, it was announced at the beginning of last night's ECW on Sci Fi that Joey Styles has been "promoted" to WWE.com and Mike Adamle will replace him in the ECW announce booth along with Tazz.
According to a lengthy report by PWInsider, the decision to make this move was pretty quick in developing since last Friday and took many within the company by surprise when everything went down yesterday at the TV tapings in London.
It should be noted that while it was announced that Styles is being promoted as the "Head of WWE.com", the website will still be overseen by Brian Kalinowski (who is the VP in charge of a number of areas). Styles is expected to take on a role as some what of a point man for the website or more as a managing editor and will be in charge of a majority of the content you will see on WWE.com from this point on.
Styles will be working both in the WWE.com offices in Stamford and will also travel to all of the WWE televisted events. He was overheard telling people at TV yesterday that his new role will be to tighten up the website and make sure that embarassing situations (such as the flub with the King of the Ring graphic) no longer take place. Styles will also sit in on production and creative meetings at live events and will be able to convey to those on the website what should be reported, who should be pushed, etc.
Styles' new role with WWE will see him actually become in the loop in a much larger way than he was previously, giving him much more responsibility within the company this time around. Based on those who have spoken to Styles so far, he was said to be excited about this new role and looking forward to the challenge to show another area of his abilities for WWE. Considering Styles co-owned both ECWWrestling.com and 1wrestling.com for quite some time, he already brings a lot of experience to the table.
As for why he was removed from the ECW announce table along with Tazz, there are a number of theories making the rounds. According to Dave Scherer, Mike Adamle's hefty contract is more than what likely made the company's decision to move Styles out since they no longer wanted to use him in a "sideline reporter" role. It is also no secret that Vince McMahon was never a fan of Styles and the way he does play-by-play. However, there hadn't been much talk within the company over this issue. Despite that they had to place Adamle some where and ECW looks to be the most logical choice at this point to help him gain experience. It should also be noted that a number of people within WWE stated that Styles' stock went up considering Adamle's less than impressive performance last night.
