Yes, that really happened. HBK hardcore oversold everything. They even put it on the Hulk Hogan DVD set (if you got your copy from WalMart). It's classic.

.....He's gonna believe the guy with the fancy stars by his rep before the guy with the Kane mask tattoo, right?
If he does he's got bigger problems to worry about other than whether someone took the time to render a balding Shawn Michaels and a fat Hulk Hogan to Benny Hill music or not.

Lol... still can't believe Hogan wanted Flair's retirement match to end with a Hogan/Flair posedown.

How could anyone not like Shawn Michaels after this?

Oh my god best sell ever. What was the reaction to this backstage???
Nobody cared. In that they didn't see it as unprofessional.
Neither did I.

Did they not think it was unprofessional, or did they just think it was totally justified?

I don't know why I've never seen that, but man, was it funny!
I especially like the oversell of the big boot the most of all.

It's not as funny if you see the match in its entirety. Michaels' over selling, to the point where it's unbelievable, is completely justified. This is a lot more entertaining than just letting Hogan completely squash him (Which some guys do when they don't want to do the job). Hogan is a cunt.

*Waits for the Hogan fanboys to come in and talk about how unprofessional HBK was*

I personally dislike Shawn Michaels for quite a number of reasons, but I don't think he was being unprofessional. I think he was just doing his old '92/'93 heel overselling, and to be fair he made the match quite entertaining.
I don't get how HBK is so great for overselling in that match though. If you actually watch the match (like I did) from start to finish you'll see how he doesn't make Hogan look like an ass.
Maybe you just don't get it. HBK's over-hamming every one of Hogan's moves is pretty much an insult. He's turning the whole contest into a cartoon, and in a way, making fun of Hogan's moveset by completely overselling some of his best moves, like the punch to the face.
Even if some of the fans didn't "get it," Hogan definitely knew what Shawn was doing.

I think most people on this site got what Shawn was doing. It's the same as someone letting their opponent completely squash them, trying to make the match look bad, because they didn't want to do the job. I can't think of any recent examples, but it does happen.

HBK really doesn't have a whole lot of room to pick at someone for refusing to job. Then again, maybe if Bret had settled their issues that way instead of just beating the shit out of Shawn backstage, he would've saved himself a whole lot of trouble.

He's great for overselling because it was a slap in the face to Hogan, who has spent years slapping everyone including the business in the face. It's also great because, I believe, Hogan made some remarks about Shawn not being a great wrestler and only flopping around a lot. So again, it's a big 'fuck you'
There was also a whole bunch of Terry Bolea the Hulkster nonsense involved with that match and build backstage and Hogan being a peice of shit.
If it was in any way unprofessional of Shawn, which it wasn't, it's a subtle rebuttal for the vast unprofessionalism of Hogan at that point of time, not to mention countless times before.

Also, even with decrepid Hogan, a shitty bullshit outcome that Hogan bitched for, and Shawns comedic overselling antics, Shawn still managed to carry him to a watchable and entertaining match.
Like Jericho says on HBM's dvd, it wasn't anywhere near one of Shawn's good matches, but probably one of Hogan's best ever.
lol and amen to that

Correct, sir. If you watch the match, it isn't really that bad at all. However, when cut together in this video, it certainly serves a purpose. :y:
And LOL at the overselling though. Great video, if not a tad bit misleading.

The buildup for the match was amazing, Shawn's promos had that way about them that made you wonder what the hell was gonna happen

This is really the brilliant part of what Shawn did. He could have turned it into a squash, but then Hogan would have just walked away feeling smug about the entire situation. Like Fox said, Hogan knew what he was doing, and that's really the best part. Somewhere on Hogan's normally indestructible ego there's a tiny spot of cancer that knows he was totally outperformed by a guy who, while he could have just done it in the usual way, chose on that night to outperform him by being a clown. Maybe the marks didn't get it, but plenty of people did, and you have to know everyone backstage did.
And then there's this guy:

When was that? If you're talking about The Screwjob™ then Bret punched Vince once in the jaw, knocking him out, and only had a few mild words with Shawn & HHH.

LoL!!!! I never did see that match (didn't care for it) but that was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. I was afraid I was going to wake my wife up from laughing. Specially when he did the twisting rolls off of the turnbuckle and when Hogan clotheslined him over the top rope.

The one I'm talking about happened a while before Montreal, after Shawn's "Sunny days" promo where be basically accused Bret of cheating on his wife. Bret, being the understanding gentleman he is, confronted Shawn backstage and beat the living crap out of him. Legend has it that afterwards, HBK forfeited his tag team title, flew home, changed his phone number, and tried to get out of his WWF contract by claiming an "unsafe work environment."
It should be noted that that was, like, the third time someone beat him up outside of the ring.
Anywho, that really doesn't have a whole lot to do with the hilarity in HBK/Hogan, except to say it's no wonder Shawn's so good at selling beatings, since he's so used to taking them in real life.
