...in Australia. This is taken from several websites (I think this is a Boone/Grey story, so take it for what that's worth).
TNA can finally lay claim to iMPACT! beating Raw & SmackDown in the ratings, at least in Australia. In its second week in Australia, TNA iMPACT! garnered 43,000 viewers, compared to SmackDown with 36,000 & Raw with 38,000.

This is actually pretty good. Judging by the figure given, I'd guess that wrestling isn't such a big thing in Austrailia. But TNA seems to have a good market over there.
I know that doesn't mean TNA's all of a sudden kicking WWE's ass, but it's just some promising news to show that TNA COULD one day be a legit threat to WWE.

Didn’t Vince manage to run a house show in a 50,000 seater over there a few years back? How the heck did he manage that with those viewing numbers! Sheesh!

TNA iMPACT! has just started showing over here in Australia. It's a fresh product, and to be perfectly honest, it's a breath of fresh air. It's also not marketed as poorly as the WWE. We have ads for them with a islander guy saying John Cena is like a son to him. Seriously.
TNA iMPACT! airs at a better time, too. The WWE airs at 3:30pm on Wednesdays (RAW), Thursdays (ECW) and Fridays (SmackDown!...we actually get it before you). iMPACT! gets 9:30 on a Saturday night, which doesn't seem too great.
I wonder if TNA will begin to play to Australian audiences more? You know, maybe having a Team Australia in their World X Cup thing? As long as it doesn't mean Nathan Jones to TNA, I am fine with.
Rammsteinmad and Youell, wrestling is reasonably popular here, actually. I see a lot of kids with their Jian Seena shirts. It is just that absolutely NO ONE has cable TV in Australia. Well, close enough. If there were Nielsen ratings for the top rated weekly cable shows, they'd be about 0.1 or 0.2. In fact, I reckon wrestling is one of the higher/st rated cable shows.
Also, Australia only has 21 million, and our top rated weekly shows only get 1.6 million. Almost everything is smaller here.
Anyway I'm pretty amazed Impact gets better ratings, though like Alienoid says the WWE timeslots are pretty crappy (our weekly repeats for wrestling (RAW, ECW, Smackdown, Heat, Experience) are miday onwards on Saturday and Sunday) - I got the idea that most people see TNA as home brand wrestling.
Edit: I'm starting to take this a little too far, but that house show was at the Telstra Dome back in 2001 when wrestling owned. And wrestling used to be on the 3rd highest TV network in Aus (although there are only 3 main TV networks in Aus :p, 4 or arguably 5 main channels in total) until 1999, so it used to have a huge following before it got put onto Fox Sports and finally Fox 8.

DaVe has given a pretty good summary of things. Wrestling is actually hyped pretty big on FOX8, which is probably our main channel on cable television. They have what they call "WWE Weekends" and the like. They call themselves "Home of the WWE." I am yet to see a John Cena t-shirt, but I have actually seen a few "RAW" t-shirts around.

Also, more Australians should get Foxtel. Australian network TV is handled really shit by the networks, in my opinion.

Only 12 Aussies have cable, so the ratings swing should be taken with a grain of salt.
i guess they have taste in oz impact is a better show then smackdown, all vince cares about is raw so smackdown will continue to suck.

Interestingly enough, if you adjust for the differential in terms of number of households with TV, the number of viewers watching TNA in Australia comes out to around half the American numbers.

I dont want to come off bad here, but Cable is not a common thing in Australia? Is it just because TV is not part of your life like Fat Americans, or is there alot of back woods Australia?

And TNA still sucks.
Are their Heat ratings a .000000001?
Because that would account for Noid.
Actually cable is very popular over here. The fact that certain shows e.g. American Idol aren't shown on free-to-air TV means that kids pressure their parents to get cable.
So KK the figure's probably closer to ~15 not 12
Oh, and welcome back TOVO :y:

Actually, interestingly enough. The number of cable households in the US per capita and Australia per capita are virtually identical.
Channel ratings for the previous week in Aus (only in terms of share for each channel):
http://www.oztam.com.au/documents/2008/A2_20080406.pdf
FOX8 has 0.6 - 1.3% share depending on the capital city and is the highest rated cable show along with Fox Sports 1. The 4 main free-to-air channels we have get about 13-25% shares each.
