View Full Version : List your DS games.
I'm patiently waiting for my stupid R4 to arrive, and kinda want to get another game in the meantime. I know most of you have access to the entire library via flash cart, so I guess just list what you actually purchased. I have
New Super Mario Bros
Mario Kart DS
If you have Contra 4, tell me if it's worth the $20 or so or if I should just download it later.

What kind of games are those Ace Attorney ones? Gamefaqs raves about them, but I've yet to find out anything about them.
Also, tell me more about these titles.
Elite Beat Agents
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Jump! Ultimate Stars
The World Ends With You
And how the hell did you get Twilight Princess on DS?

Elite Beat Agents is a great rhythm/music game. I only like a couple of tracks in the game, but that doesn't stop it from being awesome. The two Japanese versions have more suitable songs. It's all Japanese, but the menus are really easy to understand, and the Jpop is much more enjoyable than the typical American music you find in music games (That aren't Guitar Hero).
Hit up Youtube and watch some videos for all three games if you're interested. The Japanese ones can easily be found if you just search Ouendan.
I meant to say Phantom Hourglass. I ALWAYS make that mistake for some reason.

Hotel Dusk is a mystery adventure puzzle solver. Meant to play out like a book, you have to go around the hotel to solve the mystery. Was a very enjoyable game and I really got into it.
I suggest taking the time to read reviews of games you are curious about as they can be explained better. www.ds.ign.com has em or like anyother videogame website. I look forward to the next DS thread you will most likely make in 2 days.

http://court-records.net tells all about them.
IMO, they were my main reason for splurging on a DS. That, and the Pokemon games. Those never get old to me, even though the show sucks.
Basically, all of the Ace Attorney series deals with you playing as a defense attorney investigating crime scenes trying to get your clients proved innocent. There's an awesome list of characters (such as Prosecutors Miles Edgeworth, Manfred Von Karma and Franziska Von Karma), as well as weird humor. It's really more of a cult following type of game, but they are seriously my favorite DS games.
A couple of good videos: http://youtube.com/watch?v=detQxA_5BdU

Seriously, I highly recommend them, if for nothing else than the gameplay is different, and the characters are awesome.
All of those games sound really fun. Is there a certain Ace Attorney I need to start with, or does it not matter? One review of Hotel Dusk said it's very wordy (book like). I'd imagine it has a very slow beginning with the talking, but then picks up with controlling the person?

The whole thing is pretty much text based, but you use features of the DS touch screen to search for clues, use scientific methods for finding the clues (spraying luminol, dusting for prints, etc). You can move from place to place by selecting location, and you can't really MISS any clues, as it won't let you progress without all the clues you need, but the courtroom parts are where you really have to think. And it's seriously satisfying when you realize you've ripped the prosecution's ass by finding a contradiction.
In order, you should go:
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Phoenix Wright: Justice for All
Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations
Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice
Oh, and you had asked about "The World Ends With You". Game is simply amazing. I kept thinking "Well, it'll be like Kingdom Hearts, since it's the same art style."...I love KH, but I seriously have to say that TWEWY is a totally different ballgame. It's not similar to anything I've played on DS so far, so I can't give an actual comparison to another game, but the story is pretty cool.
You basically play a guy who wakes up in a downtown district of Tokyo. No recollection of who he is or how he got there. You find out that your life is being observed by these beings called "Reapers", and they're forcing you to play their game, or else they completely wipe you from existence. Awesome twists as well. After the Ace Attorney stuff, that's the next big title I picked up on.
OH. Trauma Center: Under the Knife (They remade it as Trauma Center: Second Opinion for the Wii) is great also. It was my first DS game actually, and they've confirmed a straight sequel to UtK coming out in July, as opposed to Trauma Center: New Blood for the Wii, which was just a "10 years later...." type story with new characters.
A couple of videos for you:
The First Trauma Center trailer. It has been released in the US, so this is actually a Japanese trailer. It showcases some characters, gameplay, and tells a little bit about GUILT (the sci-fi-esque disease you square off against in the game...really creepy.):

And as for TWEWY...
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nr_g6EXYY5s&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nr_g6EXYY5s&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
All of the games have pretty awesome soundtracks too, by the way.

I just picked up The World Ends With You today. I haven't played it yet, but every review for the game has been great. It's not like any other game I've played. The DS needs more unique, one of a kind, games like these.
Well, I went into Gamestop to pick up the Ace Attorney game, but they didn't have it. Looks like I'll have to wait until the R4 arrives.
TWEWY looks really good. I'll give that a shot too. So many good games out. Ended up going with Brain Age 2 and Mario Party DS, since it'll let me, my wife and the kid play on our separate DS' with one card. Awesome.

Jump! Ultimate Stars
Jump Ultimate is a Japan-only game (as it would be a licensing nightmare to release in the US), best described as Smash Bros, replacing Nintendo with Shonen Jump manga characters, but more team based. You form a team on a manga page, with each fighter, and support characters (think assist trophies in Brawl, only not random) taking up a certain number of "koma" (comic book panels). The basic version of each fighting character takes up at least 4 koma, support characters 2 or 3, and help koma (which add an ability to one fighter) 1. Fighters can be switched, and assist koma selected using the touch screen, pressing parts of your manga page with the stylus.
Gameplay is very much Smash Bros-like, except you have to tear the sides of the manga book by attacking it before you knock opponents off the sides of the stage, and characters have health bars rather than incremental damage. Game modes are timed (30, 60 or 90 seconds), Stock (all of your characters die) or coin collect.
The single player mode takes the form of missions in a themed universe of each manga series (which you will have to read a translation guide for or figure out what the Japanese means) for which you can unlock new stages and the help koma of characters, and some points, the points can be used to unlock bonus content or evolve your help koma to assist koma and some to new fighters, and then to more powerful versions of fighters (for example there is a version of Naruto Uzumaki for 4, 5, 6 and 7 koma (possibly 8), each increasing in power).
The game supports local single and multi card Wi-fi and the Nintendo WFC, and seems quite lag-free, even between the UK and Japan.
I don't even know most of the characters in the game and I find it fun as hell.

Meteos is an amazing little Tetris-ish game.
I'm not gonna list all of the games I have, because it'd take forever and whatnot, but....
Mr Driller: Driller Spirits: I love this game. It's simple, it's fun, it's underrated.
Advance Wars: Fun strategy/TBS game, cartoony graphics, super powers. AW:DS is betterthan the new one, Days of Ruin, but both are fun.
Clubhouse Games: I'm normally against the minigames bullshit, but this one's plenty fun.
Bomberman: It's fucking Bomberman.

There are 2 on the GBA. 1 came out a long ass time ago and is mad hard, the other came out like 3 years ago and has 2 people who are the protagonists and most of the enemies are monsters instead the usual human classes.
There is the one on the Gamecube, which was pretty good, and then there is the Wii sequel.
Of course there are a bunch of Japanese-only ones too.

Hey G remember that time I told you about The Orange Box and you were all "Oh yeah?" all sarcastic like and then ignored me for like months and then I brought it up a little while later and you were all "Oh I think I might go get that" and you wasted all those not playing The Orange Box because you wouldn't listen to my advice?
Is this what it's going to be like with GTA4? Am I going to play with you online in September?
