Dark Match:

Elijah Burke b. Jamie Noble

WWE Friday Night SmackDown (Air Date 5/02):

SmackDown begins with Theodore Long announcing that the WWE Tag Team Titles, US Title, and World Heavyweight Title will all be on the line tonight.

Michael Cole announces Mick Foley as the new SmackDown announcer.

WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz b. Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore to retain.

ECW General Manager Armando Estrada comes out and announces that the following will be a Colin Delaney contract match.

Vladimir Kozlov b. Colin Delaney

Mark Henry confronts Nunzio backstage. He reminds him that he is the World's Strongest Man in an intimidating manner.

Victoria & Natalya b. Michelle McCool & Cherry

Mark Henry b. Nunzio who brought Big Show to ringside with him. After the match Big Show asks Henry was doesn't he pick on someone his own size. Henry walks to the back.

WWE United States Champion Matt Hardy b. MVP to retain the title with a Twist of Fate.

It is announced that The Undertaker will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against The Great Khali later tonight.

Mick Foley interviews Batista. They talk about his loss to Shawn Michaels at Backlash. Batista says that he lost; no excuses. Foley asks Batista if he thought that Michaels was faking a knee injury. Batista says that the thought of Michaels faking the injury makes him sick. He says if he finds out that HBK was faking the injury that he will get him.

Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins b. Jesse & Festus

Finlay b. An unknown superstar.

The Undertaker comes out. Vickie Guerrero comes out and says that the following match will not be for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. She also says that Undertaker's new choke hold (the Gogoplata that they have not named) is banned.

According to both of our correspondents, Vickie Guerrero strips The Undertaker of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship because of his dangerous choke hold. She says that it is to protect the superstars.

The Great Khali came to the ring and tried to take the World Heavyweight Championship. Undertaker attacked him. Undertaker ends up locking the Gogoplata on Khali. While he is choking him out, Ryder and Hawkins come out and take the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt. Khali ends up bleeding. Undertaker went after Ryder and Hawkins and ended up getting back in the ring and chokeslamming Khali to end the show.

Off-Air:

Vickie (with Edge), Hawkins, and Ryder leave with the belt.

All I've seen are complaints about this, but it honestly doesn't bother me. For one, it makes sense given the power Vickie Guerrero wields. Secondly, I don't want to see The Undertaker with the World Heavyweight Championship. He bores me. Thirdly, this will probably lead to Vickie getting replaced as General Manager, which is long overdue.

It'll be interesting to see where they go with this. Personally, even though they just did the King of the Ring, I would not mind another tournament for the vacant belt. Big Show, Batista, Edge, Matt Hardy, MVP, Mark Henry, Chavo Guerrero and Finlay could be the participants. Big Show defeats Mark Henry, the US Champion again goes over MVP, Chavo Guerrero gets some much needed credibility against Batista with some Shawn Michaels/Chris Jericho help, and Edge defeats Finlay. The semi-final brackets match up so Matt Hardy faces Chavo Guerrero, and Edge faces Big Show. Matt Hardy defeats Chavo in their match, and Edge goes over Big Show with heel shenanigans.

The finals can see Matt Hardy defeat Edge, with Jeff Hardy, The Undertaker, Kane, Big Show, and maybe some other faces canceling out The Family, and winning the World Heavyweight Championship.

I choose to dream.

Honestly, it sounds like a good show. Apparently Mick Foley was really good on commentary at Backlash, so I think he could continue to be great. John Morrison & The Miz vs. Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore will be a fantastic little tag team match. Matt Hardy vs. MVP will be a great mid-card battle, and Nunzio gets to talk.

I bet we're leading up to Colin Delaney vs. Armando Estrada, too. That could be entertaining, if nothing else (Estrada was training to be a wrestler, so we'll get to see if he is any good). All the General Managers seem to be abusing their powers, so part of me wonders if we're building towards Vince McMahon just saying "enough" and putting someone in charge of all three shows, or something of the like.

WWE is going for pretty crazy angles this week. And it seems to be working pretty well. I wonder if this is just a thrice-off, or is this some sort of new style of angles to counter the decreasing ratings?

I thought theyw ere gonna do a taker/big show feud for the title? Strange. Though it makes things interesting.

This has to be Joey Styles trying to get hits on WWE.com now that he is in charge. Has to be.

WWE recently has been trying to go too ‘UFC’ and just having people have matches for the sake of it based on who they are, not why they are fighting.

There’s been very few angle’s recently compared to what they normally do, so I’m happy to see this sort of direction, heck, they let Cody Rhodes have 2 weeks of mic time and it’s made me interested in him, I didn’t think that was possible.

On the Raw side of things there are the following angles:

Regals power trip
HHH/Orton – Built on the title, no actual angle
Cena/JBL – JBL pissed at Cena for costing him his shot at winning title
Kennedy/Regal – Fresh face turn, could be a mid card ‘Austin/McMahon’
Cade and Murdoch teasing splitting
The Jericho/HBK/Batista scenario
They could always still split Londrick after what happened before Mania
Looks like Youmanga is going to be turning face which could lead to some promising stuff
And finally, Santino Marella

As much as we the hardcore fans will watch it, criticize it, despise it, we will never turn it off. They need that drama to bring in more fans, it’s all about the drama, as much as it’s about an athletic contest, it’s still needs a reason for people to tune in.

If a daily soap just had families with no arguments, and just lived out there daily lives it would tank.

Hence why I think WWE has been doing so poorly, they are just having wrestlers wrestle, for no particular reason, now at least we have a reason for these feuds.

In fact, let's throw them all in a large vat of green jello and make the first ever "30 Man Obstacle Course" where they have to go through every single Double Dare Obstacle before they can get to the vat.

Come on, who wouldn't want to see a German Suplex through the giant mouth?

In fact, I could see TNA booking a PPV around that exact idea.

BRB, gonna call Vinnie Ru.

That would actually be really sweet. Next week, Vickie Guerrero is planning to award the World Heavyweight Championship to Edge, when CM Punk makes his entrance, says he's cashing in his World Heavyweight Title shot right now, and becomes the new World Heavyweight Champion by default. He then coins his OVW catchphrase, and tells Edge that he's been punked.

I'm loving the unpredictability of the WWE right now. William Regal as King of the Ring, Kennedy returning as a face, Triple H winning the WWE Championship out of nowhere (as much as Triple H bores me), Mike Adamle and Tazz throwing bitch fits, Mick Foley being added as color commentator to SmackDown!, Taker getting stripped of the title. It's all pretty fun.

Vince Russo would have had The Undertaker stripped of the title, it awarded to Edge, it won by another guy (like CM Punk using MITB), and then Vickie stripping them of it and awarding it to Edge again. We're not yet Russo bad. Besides, I re-iterate, The Undertaker without the World Heavyweight Championship is a very good thing.

You actually WATCH Smackdown?

Anyway, this sort of thing is certainly different, but on a personal level, I can't say it makes me want to watch and further my interest. While I can't speak for the public, I can't say that I think this is going to be a boon to WWE. I mean, maybe it will, but this "Controversy" seems primarily sensation and no substance.

TerranRich

As long as WWE panders mostly to the kiddies, they will go nowhere. Not controversy nor sudden abrupt ends to their programming will bring them back to Attitude-level status.

Kane Knight

WWE can go plenty of places pandering to kiddies. One of their biggest eras is based on pandering to the kiddies.

TerranRich
05-01-2008, 11:19 PM
They pandered to the obscene finger-waving swearing cursing kids. Now all they got are the 10-year-olds that hug their Cena action figures while sucking their thumbs.

So basically mid-late 80s Hogan fans...

By that time frame, we're still 9 years off from the next Attitude era.

Though Cena should be leaving for TNA around 2013.

I was referring to Hulkamania, but if you choose to ignore that, that's fine.

Their current product's main problem is that they've been pandering to kids while also showing the Kiss My Ass Club, incest angles, adultery, gay and poop jokes (which granted, are probably WAY over with the 10 year old crowd). They're trying to play to a children's market with a product that's not suitable for kids.

They've got one foot on the dock and one on the ship, so to speak. They like the merchandise from the kiddies, but they don't want to lose the male 18-34 market, who are their bread and butter, who have the disposable income, and who generate advertising revenue. And, of course, kids aren't the major prime time viewers.

Around what time did the WWE start remarketing towards kids anyway? 2002-03 were still slightly Attitudish in content, and they didn't change the theme song till 06 or 07 did they?
