Shang Tsung killed Lui Kang, but it was with the help of Quan Chi. Prior to that however, Lui Kang was getting the better of Shang Tsung. In the original Mortal Kombat tournament, Lui Kang also defeated Shang Tsung CLEANLY.

To the best of my knowledge, Sub Zero and Scorpion have not defeated Quan Chi'. Can you please provide proof of this?

I didn't forget about Scoripion and Sub Zero. I just do not think they belong on that "top 13 list" that I created.

Sub Zero is superior to Scorpion (to the best of my knowledge....or they might be equals with both men getting one victory over another), but Johnny Cage has defeated Scorpion (Mortal Kombat movie).

Cage also defeated Goro...the former reigning champion. To the best of my knowledge, Sub Zero and Scorpion have NOT defeated Goro...and I do not believe that they are capable of doing so.

To the best of my knowledge, Shujinko is successful in his attempt of extracting revenge on Onaga (which puts him at a higher rank). Blaze was also a creation of elder gods (i.e. Taven's parents), which also puts him ahead.

Since out of ALL the competitors that competed in Armageddon (i.e. trying to "fight their way" up the pyramid), Taven was the one that emerged victorious, he gets the top rank.

It is still unknown at this point as to whether Lui Kang or Shujinko is superior to one another (my money would be placed on Lui Kang).

OK - I stand corrected. Admittedly, my knowledge of Mortal Kombat is a little vague before 'Deadly Alliance.'

I was also unaware of Scorpion defeating Quan Chi' (along with the other details of Scorpion/Sub-Zero that you provided.....nice job by the way :y:).

My "rationale" for ranking Quan Chi ahead of Sub-Zero and Scorpion, was the fact that he defeated Shang Tsung after they collectively defeated Raiden. Since Sub Zero and Scorpion were working for Shang Tsung (in MK1 the movie...I didn't differentiate video game storylines from movie storylines), I figured that it automatically made Quan Chi' superior.

Your reasoning however does make sense (the producers of MK have gone on record stating the Scorpion is one of their favourite characters). It would only be fitting that Scorpion (and Sub Zero) be given greater roles.

To add to that, I think the creators of MK were a little disappointed with how "Shujinko-mania" never really took off. The creators basically wanted Shujinko to replace Lui Kang as the modern day hero, but I think they've retracted their stance since that time (Taven seems to be the guy now).

Given the fact that the creators of MK already love the Scorpion character, they might give the "defeating of Onaga" accolade to Scorpion instead.

The thing however, is that the MAJOR accomplishments usually still belong to the "top" good guys (i.e. defeating Blaze, winning the MK tourney, defeating Onaga, etc.). Scorpion isn't your prototypical "good guy", which is why I'm not sure if the creators of MK will give that "defeating of Onaga" distinction to him.

i cant remember one story lined fight that reptile has had that he has won going back to mk2.

The ermac thing is hinted to in UMK3 and trilogy and then again confirmed in deception, where he is one of the easiest characters to play with. He just has very vague story lines where he doesnt really ever fight anyone.

On Wikipedia, it clearly states that Taven defeated Blaze (and hence, fulfilling the propehcy). However - instead of all of the warrior's powers being nullified, it had an adverse effect. All of the warrior's became stronger!

No real suprises with the character models, hope in game they look as good as that. MK games have a habit of having character models that look very angular.

Still struggling to figure out how exactly superman will be pierced and dragged along by scorpions harpoon, i watched the ed boon interview and him talking about superman being vulnerable to magic etc. I really think it'll look odd though. :wtf:

An example is that the scorpion renders for shaolin monks and armageddon were totally different. Theres usually small changes all the time too. Also with the new 3d games that they have had, the costumes have always changed a little bit with the different characters in the games and with this being on 360 and ps3 exclusively, it makes sense that they change the characters appearances around a bit. I personnally love it.

And Gerard, what are you on about? Thats closer to his original look than it's ever been in years. I mean yeah, it would be nostalgic to have it as a hiddin costume, but it would be rather drab and boring compared to others. This is next gen, break out the details. Such as those killer Dragon insignias hes got.

One think about the ps2/xbox games, I love that they've visually separated all the ninja type guys.

As much as I bash MK's gameplay, I keep comin back for every game. It's because beyond the gameplay, MK has the most interesting mythology and characters of any fighting game series ever.

From character design, stage design, and the whole atmosphere of it all. It presents something really unique and different, that just pulls me in a lot better than other fighters.

That said, other fighters pull me in right away with their superb gameplay. Which MK is sorely lacking.

Im not saying theyre for sure not going to use them but they have never stuck with a scorpion render 100% ever before so why would that change now. Its not like they dumb it down or anything, they just completely change it.

Although reptile isnt really even a ninja anymore in deadly alliance, but they put him back in it in armageddon so who knows what they'll do with him. Plus the guys that are considered ninjas in MK are determined not only by how they look but the style they fight. So if theyre style is more ninja like they are considered one of them regardless of whether or not theyre story out right defines them as a ninja.

So lets try and figure out who the remaining six characters could be.

I dont have a ton of knowledge on the DC side of things, but I would assume that the Green Lantern, a superman villain like Doomsday would make it or even Wonder Woman. Or maybe an important or popular villain in the DC universe that Im not thinking of.

On the MK side of things, I see there being at least two more villains because as of right now there is really only one in Shang Tsung. Scorpion could be considered one if they were stretching it. The MK characters I see them using are from a list that follows:

one of the robots
Barakka or Kano

I was thinking Cage as well. It seems like they're sticking with the foundational Characters of the MK series, so I don't think we'll see any of the robots. If we do, I'd put my bet on Cyrax.

I think we'll possible see Kung Lao or Jax as well, although I think Goro would be a pretty cool fighter to throw in the mix.

Raiden would make a good counter-point to Captain Marvel. The Huntress would be cool. Cage will be in, if anything but to face up with a possible Booster Gold. Green Arrow's trick arrows are right up MK's silly-moves alley. And there will be a problem if the one DC character who most fits with MK's mythology isn't in there; Ras Al Ghul.

Well I dont think there will be anyone else that are Batman villains like joker or Ras because there is already Catwoman. I forgot about Raiden, and he might work because he is essentially a villain right now.

All I know is that they need to put more villains on the DC side because the villains can do fatalities while the heros on the DC side can only do brutalities. Or something along those lines.

I dont think theyre going to make players like Shao Kahn and Goro playable from the get-go because they are bosses and are probably involved in the climax of the story. This isnt a trilogy or Armageddon game. They are probably not going to have these characters in the game. But I could be wrong.

If they are sticking with the classic MK characters in this game then we will probably see Kano and Cage in the mix for sure. The only thing that I think that they might not want to use Kano is with the laser eye that will have to be the exact same as Superman's but thats probably not a bigdeal.

If you look at the story of Martal Kombat, it might make sense that the guy for MK be Shinnok. Shao Kahn would be obvious but but shinnok would work really well.


The description says to conquerers merge, so that means it wont be Doomsday because hes a destroyer.

So if Shao Kahn is the MK guy, I'd say the DCU guy woud be either Darkseid or Braniac.

But if its Shinnok, I could see him being merged with Brainiac or Lex Luthor. Eeryone counts out Lex because he has no powers, but he could be very interesting in the game if hes merged with someone.
