View Full Version : I'll make you Santino marks a deal.
If WWE brings someone in to play Donkey Kong and builds to a Donkey Kong vs. Super Santino PPV match I'll blindly mark for him.
Otherwise, sorry, he's shit.
I'm just glad they had someone who can actually work the mic there last night to carry him.

Yeah, bring back A-Train to be DK too.
I still think Santino is hilarious though :(
Yeah of course. That's why the crowd actually popped for him coming out.
Crowds also pop for Cena, so I don't see your point.
His mic skills are over.
And you are trying to tell me John Cena is shit then you might as well go watch fucking Extreme Makeover or something because this ain't for you.

See, it's perfect :shifty:
He has good mic skills, I will not deny that, but the gimmick he's in is terribly unfunny. All it is is an accent and a quip or two... Ooo, yeah, real great.
You get him in a better role, drop the accent and make him a decent heel, then I'll say he's good. And he's in trouble if they leave him in the Santino gimmick for long, otherwise he's going to end up like Eugene, a comedy act that's rarely used or terribly mis-used.
As for Cena, I'm not saying Cena is shit, in fact I'm a huge supporter of Cena and think he's the best thing public relations-wise to come along in a long time. But he's in a terrible gimmick and he's terribly canned. He needs to let loose, otherwise he's just another wasted talent.

OK, OK, how about this:
To get further up the card, he sucks up heavily to Regal. Regal gives him elecution lessons and now you have someone with a very English accent who slips into Italian when he gets angry.
And just so Vince will buy into it, Santino also like beastiality for some reason during all this.

Why not just use Mark Henry, he calls himself a silverback.

In all seriousness, using a wacky storyline like having Striker teach him proper english and using the Italian/angry aspect would be perfect. I wouldn't be crazy about the storyline but if it gets him out of his currently VERY overrated gimmick and into something decent I would be completely fine with it.

Are you kidding? He's a comedic Genius! His timing is excellent! You don't appreciate art!
On an unrelated note, I don't understand why poetry doesn't rhyme and why artists don't stick to canvas and paint...

So basically he's Mr. Kennedy + an accent?

Pretty much.

No. Santino is quality where as Kennedy can shout his name decent and takes a cracking legit punch from Regal. That's all he has.

Santino says words funny, other than that he sucks. I've never seen him in a really good match. He is pretty piss poor in the ring. And don't use that tired line of he never has good opponents.
Has he been booked to have a good match in the last 6 months? Erm... no. Nobody is saying his ring work is great anyway. Tired argument so move on kids.

Ironically, I am a stand-up comedian, published poet (rarely going for rhymes) and small-time art critic over here, and I am a big fan of Santino's work. So KK's analogy is pretty bad. Get some new ones, man.
"Noid obviously doesn't get that an analogy isn't meant to be taken at face value. Look how linear he is!"
Well, KK, you obviously don't get that an analogy needs to fit to be effective. OK, you have grasped that poetry doesn't need to rhyme and art isn't finger-painting. Doesn't connect to the Santino praise at all, though. I'm finding more and more that Santino critics tend to be more pretentious personalities. They like to criticise his performances because he takes something simple and makes it work for him. You can't argue that it isn't working. The man gets cheers or boos (depending where he is), and has himself a bandwagon. Whether or not you want to jump on is irrelevant.
There is a massive difference between Santino getting over and John Cena getting over. Cena was forced. For a guy that has been as forced as Cena, he really is underperforming. The man has been pushed as the next Hogan, and he is generating nowhere near that kind of revenue. Santino is a mid-card act, and really should be considered a different breed. Mid-cards acts are a lot harder to get over in this day and age, considering how pathetically the WWE focuses on sacrificing their credibility for the sake of the main event.
I am not the biggest fans of Cryme Tyme, but I can at least accept that they are over and have the charisma to really connect with crowds.
I also love the way Xero criticises Santino for being so unfunny, and in the original post makes a joke about bringing in Donkey Kong, comparing Santino to Super Mario. Don't get me wrong, I am one of the biggest marks around for Donkey Kong, but Colin Mockrie would not be proud.

I love the way only one side of the argument can be tired, Rob. "Santino sucks in the ring" is still a fresh thought, obviously, whereas "this is why you might think that," apparently isn't.
Besides, I'm not about to say the man is the next Shawn Michaels, or anything, but Santino is not that bad in the ring. His work in OVW reminded people heavily of Kurt Angle. He was working more of a shoot-style, with lots of submissions and suplexes. His work in the WWE has been that of a rookie.
I've never seen anything overly offensive from the guy in the ring, either. I've quite enjoyed his work with more capable wrestlers such as Chris Jericho, Val Venis, Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly (steps up from Chris Masters and squashes against Umaga).

Santino is a lot better than Xero Limit 126, that's for sure.

Seriously though, to lend a bit of credibility to the opposing argument, his gimmick in OVW was pretty badass. He was like an Ivan Drago-esque MMA fighter type. That was sweet. Since he turned heel in WWE he's lost his identity as a wrestler, really since he debuted, but the whole Umaga victory is cool enough with me that it gave him a slight pass.

Errr...It's not that bad, after the comment you made in discussion.
But then, the irony is pretty overwhelming hurr.

I don't watch Santino for his matches, I watch him purely for his promos. I skip through his matches sometimes and resume play when he picks up a mic or steals a sandwich.

Yeah, besides this is WWE, if you want technical masterpieces go watch some Tanahasi or some shit.
