Game looks boring.

And disorienting. But it has really clean visuals and it seems immersive. Hopefully it won't have multiplayer so they can focus on a nice weekend adventure.

Dunno what the monkey DS is on about.

Looks fun as hell, and I've been waiting for this one.

Looks interesting to say the least.

Something like this would've been nice in Assassin's Creed :p

Saw a review on this last year in a magazine I bought. Looked amazing there. Definately getting it, phenomonal graphics

Only found out about this game last week when I downloaded trailers. Instantly became a must have just by the trailers. Downloaded the demo last night and I'm enjoying it. Comes out the same day as Banjo & Kazooie so between this, B&K and Fable II I'm pretty much set, gaming-wise, for Winter.

The demo's great. Easy controls and nice visuals.

Something about this game makes me think of skate. I did wall-runs and I'm hopping over ledges and I'm feeling good about it. These are things that other games have, but the immersion of it all has a good feel to it. This game needs online CTF so bad, but I like what it offers for now. The ghost race mode will be addictive.

This game is fucking awesome. Just got this and COD: WaW. Spent a good half an hour on the traing level, just fucking around. Beautiful visuals, and smooth as silk gameplay. The disorientation we worried about earlier is solved by a simple button press, that automaticaly spins you in the direcion you have to go.

The combat, while sparse since you can only take on one enemy at a time if you want to survive, is pretty badass. Leaped off a building and pressed L2 to roll upon landing, and gut punched this guy at the end of the roll, thendisarmed him.

Love this game so far. I can seriously see myself playing each level over and over again to get perfect parkour runs, without it getting old.

It's a bit short and feels a little more like a tech demo than a game, but it's a great one :D

I watched Game Trailers' review of it. if I had a 360 or PS3 I'd like to play it. I think a third person, over the shoulder, view would look awesome, but apparently the first person view works pretty well... which is surprising considering the type of game it is.

Yeah, after playing for a while, I wouldn't want it in 3rd person. Would tak away from the immersion of it, and it works great in 1st person anyway.

Didn't really like this. Got half way through the tutorial on the demo and was bored already.

I am usually willing to put off bad controls and gameplay for a game that is fun and keeps me interested, but Mirror's Edge is close to a put-down for me. I love the gameplay when it works, but whenever you slow down it kills the "momentum" of the game. Branching paths are cool...very cool, but the platforming stinks. Maybe the Prince of Persia series has influenced me too much, but this game could really use a reverse mechanic for those stupid moments when the game doesn't know what you are trying to grab on to. The fact that I have to fall all the way to the ground of a level to die before the game gives me a restart bothers me. The gunplay is horrible (which I know you aren't supposed to use it, but they could have at least tried to make it manageable), there are no indicators as to where enemies might be or how many more bullets you can take, and besides the actual world and a few characters, the graphics aren't that great (especially the weapons).

Dunno, gotta disagree with you on just about everything man.

For starters, there would be no challenge, or replay value, if you could just burn through the levels without losing momentum on your first play through. Part of the fun is learning the layouts and increasing your finish time. Thats why all the extra modes are timing based. It's a ocal point.

And I dunno why you're having so much trouble with the plaforming. Granted, you have to be fairly tight with your jumps, but more often times than not, I thought I wasn't going to make a jump, and I did, as opposed to the other way around. I very rarely had to try a stunt more than twice. And come on, when you do fall, it takes like 2 seconds to hit the ground. That complaint is kinda lame, man.

As for gunplay, while it's nothing special, I don't think it's by any means bad. Especially since, as you yourself said, it isn't something you have to use, ever. But still better than a lot of the sub par shooters out there. The weapons look crappy, I'll give you that tho. And there is no health indicator, or radar, because on of the selling points of the game is it's immersion. You don't see anything she doesn't see. It does tell you yor taking damage, in the same way many successful shooters do, and it works fine. You know when you're in trouble. It's fine if you don't like all that, but that's a personal preference, not a fault of the game.

Finally, while the visuals aren't mind-blowing, they are well above average, and present a unique color palette as opposed to the drab, greys and tans that have seemingly become the norm in first person games. Of course I do havethe PS3 version, which is supposedly noticably better.

Now I'm not saying the game is a 10, but I'm just not seeing a lot of the criticisms I've read, in my playthrough. Deserves an 8.5, in my opinion rather than the 7.somethings its been getting. If it had multiplayer modes as kayx mentioned(yes CTF would be immense) then I'd even give it a 9. But as it stands, if you're not a fan of time trial modes, there really isn't much for you, once you've beaten it.

I wouldn't have such a problem with losing momentum if I could see better what was around me. Like let me see a zoom-out of the map so I can better plan my path. And yeah, I understand the time trial stuff. Unfortunately, I'm not really a fan of speed runs, so I would have preferred to have some smoother sailing during my play through.

I understand the point of immersion, but I feel just as immersed in any game that has a HUD. Honestly, putting this game in first-person only hinders how immersed I am anyway...I can't even see the world around me like I want to half the time.

I just beat the game, and I will never return to it. I might be horrible with this game's platforming, but I had to retry certain jumps, particularly in the last two levels, upwards of 15 times. The game just would not pick up on grabbing ledges for me, ever. I mashed on that fucking bumper like crazy. I had mad amounts of trouble running on walls as well. That's why I hated the amount of time it took me to fall and reload the save...I had to do things over and over and over. And gauging your jump is terrible. In Chapter 8 there was a ledge that I either overshot or undershot, depending if I did from a wall run or not. I never found an accurate way to do a small jump.

And, as I have now finished the game, I will say that weapons (and hand to hand) are atrocious, not to mention that the slow-down button is almost useless and a complete tack-on to this game. For the last few levels, guns are basically a requirement, and when I don't have any idea how many bullets I have in a gun, it gets pretty annoying. I have to constantly drop a gun and pick another one up from the enemy I just killed. Bleh.

As for the lack of a HUD being a preference and not a fault of the game, I would agree. However, a game like Gears of War has a similar way of displaying your health, but manages to do it a whole lot better. I will fault Portal with the same problem as Mirror's, and I fucking love Portal. Even if the Gears symbol is not exact, I still have a pretty good idea of how much I have left. I could never pick up on that with Mirror's. My television's black levels are horrible though, so that probably hurt me a lot.

I don't think I could play this for very long without getting motion-sick. Cool concept, though.

The guns are for pussies, they should have gotten rid of them on the hard skill level. The hand-to-had rocks, I just wall run and kick the fucker in the head

I only had motion sickness once and

that was when the wrestler threw me off a building. Awesome sequence

Boomer, I think the only reason you don't like this game is because you suck at it.

Boomer
11-19-2008, 12:29 AM
Not true, though I openly admitted to sucking at it :p

I think the story stinks too. I care not at all about Faith and have little understanding of who these runners are. I would like to know more...have more cutscenes and in-game stuff. I don't think that is all that ridiculous a request.

Oh...and the cut scene animations do not fit whatsoever. You have a gorgeous world that the player is supposed to be "immersed" in, why not use it all the time?

I'm really not one to bash, I'm just putting up a point of view here. I really don't mean to push anyone away from this game. I'd give it a 7.5/10. It's not horrible, mind you, but I think the Prince of Persia series is better in many many many ways (as an example). I know...I know...Mirror's Edge is "cutting edge" and many would argue that PoP is a very different style of game completely, but I can't deny that, to me, Mirror's Edge makes me miss PoP platforming.

My sucking aside, I still finished the game, right? I think from the original trailers for this game, I was expecting more, s'all.
