I might as well ask in here.
All I need to get my Wii online is a wireless router right?

Sort of. You need one that's compatable and with the right encryption.

If you don't have a router yet, a cheaper option is Wii dongle
Just so I have this right, this new channel, is this the wiiware thing, or something different?
Dave Youell

So what does it do?

Of course, the Wii Dongle also has compatability options....
I think the first post explains enough about the new channel to figure it out...

So what does it do?
You can watch videos, rate Wii games, and download DS demos.

Really?
I've set up 3 of them on different PC's/Wii's for mates and they have all worked fine, as long as you get the Official one anyway
Kane Knight

Well 3 PCs? Fuuuuuck, mate, that changes everything!
No, but seriously, it only runs on XP, far as I know is NOT fully Vista compatible, and they have extensive troubleshooting on it for a reason.

OOooohh,
Sorry, didn't think about the Vista thing, I haven't even tried Vista yet.
So your saying 3 Pc's isn't sufficient testing for the millions of Wii's sold, interesting.....

FINALLY! I get all my Nintendo news from gonintendo.com, but they haven't posted since late last night. I hope there are some decent downloads.

The Ninja Gaiden DS demo is awesome. I kind of want the game now.

When I got my laptop I just got a cheap Linksys wireless router, and it's worked flawlessly with my Wii so far. It is honestly like a million times better than any other setup tbh

It happens to the best of us. :D

But yeah, there are quite a few issues. Also, I forgot to mention to DE, if you have a wired router, the LAN cable they sell will work, and with a wired line you don't have to worry about having the right router. It sucks that you have to burn a USB slot for that, but then, Nintendo fucked up online connectivity hardcore./
I'm using wired. Thing is, I don't have anything else that uses the Wii's USB.
Kane Knight

I don't either. Actually, I'm kinda surprised how little has come out that uses them.

On L'other hand, I already had a wireless router, so I really don't need to use the wired. Especially since I think Nintendo's online play is gay, and don't care if it takes a minute longer to download my retro titles.
The only thing I can think of are those remote chargers. The one I have is complete junk, so I only plug it into my computer when it's time to charge. I'm very disappointed that Nintendo hasn't released rechargables. :n:

Oh shizzle. Def gonna get my brother to hook that shit up so I can get the demos going. I'm one of those guys that doesn't like the idea of burning $30 - $40 on a game, discovering it sucks and then not being able to return it. At least with console shits, you can always try before you buy, but most video stores don't have a rental section for handheld systems (Rogers does in Canada at least).
I've had no problems returning new DS games? In fact, I did it last night. (EB's "New" yet opened games)
Also, look for used DS games. You can guarantee returning it if you don't like it.
BTW, I'm a big word search fan, and the CrossworDS game is insanely awesome doing it. I give it 5 hard cocks.

They still haven't?
What pissed me off is I got the Nyko rechargables with the grips. I can't use them with the regular Zapper, but I also bought a SureShot...A Nyko product...And can't use them there, either. Even better, all the pictures on the box show the Nyko back cover...:foc:

Ok OK, the internet in my house is done through a cable company so does this mean it's wired and also what is this Wii dongle thing?

It's a USB device, looks like a memory stick
Basically is emits a wifi signal
You can get normal dongle's that act like a mini router, but then there's a risk of other people using it if there's no security settings, Nintendo do have one of there own, which was originally designed for the DS, but works with the Wii as well.
Like KK said, there might be an issue if you try to use it on a machine with Vista
You will need to have your PC on whenever you want to play on the Wii online BTW
Danny Electric

I use windows XP. So you just stick the device into the Wii?
Mike the Metal Ed

Nah, into the PC, then it transmits to the Wii and DS.

thanks
Nintendo discontinued the USB wireless adaptor btw.
Kane Knight

They discontinued it? Wow.
Dave Youell
05-09-2008, 08:03 AM
Why would they do that? Morons!
Kane Knight
05-09-2008, 08:27 AM
Probably because they couldn't make it work with Vista (Or anything prior to XP), and couldn't make it work on a large number of XP machines.

We got one of the USB things for our DS at TRU a few months ago for like $8, but it's been a POS 90% of the time.

If that's the case, I'm surprised you were even able to power on your Wii.
