Well, the Wii if you love Nintendo games or multi-player in the same room.
360 is the best for online and has the largest library of good games right now. If you want a hi-def console and not bothered about hi-def movie discs I would highly reccomend it. I say discs, because by all acounts the American Xbox Live movie library is pretty good for HD. If you were looking to use that feature, I would say get the elite for the 12-gb HD though.
PS3 if you need blu-ray in your life, but even then I bought a blu-ray/HD-DVD-rom with blu-ray/DVD/CD writing for £80 when I sold my PS3 and my PC is hooked up to my TV via HDMI so I can't lose on that front.
I'm finding it harder and harder to reccomend the Wii these days to people who were not fussed on the Gamecube. I know so many people who just have it as a Wii Sports machine (and more recently Wii Fit) that unless you want Mario and Zelda, there's not too much point to it right now, although No More Heros is badass.
Overall at this point I would say 360. Even without it's XBox Live (£40 a year well spent I feel mind you) it has more good, exclusive games than the PS3 and multi-format games are generally better on the 360 (with the notable exception of Burnout Paradise). MGS4 is coming next month on PS3 and even if you do believe the rumors it's coming to 360 eventually, it will be at least 6 months. Although MGS4 makes it harder to choose, I'm sure Mass Effect, Halo 3, Bioshock, Dead Rising and Forza 2 (to name a few!) should keep your mind off the fact you can't play it :D

Depends on what kinda games you like, whether online is important to you and if you want hi def movies and shit.
I'll try to lay it out bullet style:
360
-biggest game library right now
-specializes in sports and shooter titles
-Xbox Live Arcade library is pretty good
-backward compatibility with all of these XBox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360) games
-XBox Live Gold membership ($50/year I think) makes online play uniform across all games
Wii
-cheapest system (at the cost of graphical power and hard drive space tho)
-big library of "casual gamer" titles (Cooking Mama, Brain Age etc)
-Nintendo titles (Metroid, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, etc)
-ssssssexy library of 8-bit, 16-bit and 64-bit era titles (SNES, TurboGraphics, Genesis, N64, NES)
-various channels that provide weather, worldwide and local news, voting polls, Nintendo DS demos, etc
-backward compatible with Gamecube games
PS3
-large hard drives
-backward compatible with PS2 and PS1
-relatively cheap Blu-Ray player
-lots of good upcoming games over the next year (Metal Gear Solid 4, SOCOM 3, Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy Versus 13, etc)
-the system to have for RPG titles
-most powerful system (at least on paper)
-10 year life cycle (at least according to Sony)

Wii, I don't really want/need to justify this choice.

Funky, there was a huge deal about PS3 not being backwards compatible with anything at all, but you claim that it is with all former playstation games. Explain yourself
The 60GB version, I believe it's that one, doesn't have backwards compatibility on the PS3. The others do, however.

I dunno. I don't really give a shit about the PS3 and I will continue not to until they get their act together. Backward compatibility isn't an issue for me since I have a PS2, but if it was a selling point for the PS3, they shouldn't have scrapped it, the bastards.

60gb model is fully backwards compatible, got FFVII in mine right now. I think it is the 40gb model (aka the cheap one) that doesn't have it. It also lacks the memory card readers and 2 of the USB ports.

It all depends on you, really.
I will not suggest a Wii to anyone because I think they are 98% horrible in every way, so it comes down to 360 and PS3.
360:
Bigger game library
More exclusives currently, although most of the good ones are going to PC at some point in time
Better online, but you have to pay for it
Backwards compatible with most good XboX games
PS3:
Stronger hardware with a much better rate of surviving being turned on
Backwards compatible with almost all PSX/PS2 games
Better line-up of exclusives from this point on in the near future (MGS4, GT5, FF, Motorstorm 2, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, God of War 3, etc)
Some 360 exclusives eventually to be ported, most notably, Bioshock later this year (rumored to be released as early as September)
Since the beginning of the year, cross-platfrom games have been better on PS3, for example, Burnout, GTA4, DMC4, Condemned 2. Pretty much all games save for mainstream EA titles (burnout being the exception to that)
Hard drive
Blu-ray
Better controller (obviously this is an opinion, but DualShock 3 is best controller I have ever held)
Free online
Remote Play (allows you to play music/games/videos from your PS3 on your PSP over the internet from anywhere in the world that has internet access, basically)
Yeah, I guess you can see where I am going. Honestly the only way I can suggest a 360 is if you are only interested in the short term and current games. If you are looking for the superior investment in the long term, PS3, hands down.
I knew it was either of the two. Either way, the point still stands.

I prefer the 360. And I've owned all 3. BUT, if you want a HD movie player for the future, go PS3.
Also, if you don't have an HDTV, don't bother.

Here is the worst fucking thing ever, you can create the virtual PS2 Memory Cards, but you cant fucking play PS2 Games on the fucking thing.

I own all three.
Gotta go with 360, if I had to pick one.

Depends on what you're looking for:
Wii
Cheapest of the consoles.
Games primarily aimed at the casual market, which usually translates into "Games for retards."
Great back catalogue of games on the Wii Shop Channel
Multiplayer games like SSBB or Mario Kart (Racing for dummies)
PS3
Still the best Blu-Ray player on the market.
Free online play that isn't as much of a joke as Nintendo's WFC.
A couple good exclusives.
Potentially superior to the 360.
Ample HDD space, an HDD that's designed to be upgradable.
360
The best library. Period.
Better exclusives. More of them, to boot.
Best online service, though you have to pay.
Most Multiplatform games are at their best on teh 360.
XBLA has awesome titles. XBox Originals has some hot ones, too.
Buy a Wii if you like retarded party games, or really need another version of Super Mario Brothers 3, or if you really like the gimmick that much. Buy a PS3 if you want a Blu-Ray player. I don't regret gettign mine, and I still only have like 3 games for it. Buy a 360 if you actually want a lot of games, an online service that is comparably stable and worthwhile, and don't mind that it lacks a High Def media drive and motion controls almost nobody uses right.

Where do you get your info? I play PSX and PS2 games on mine constantly. Did you buy some knock-off PS3 from the black market in Malaysia or something?
Edit: Unless you are referring to the 40gb model, in which case that completely blowz0rz. Didn't know you could create the memory cards on the non-BC models.

FA is treating the single model as though it's standard.
We need to put orange cones up around his posts. Maybe some road flares.

I agree with everything that Kane Knight said, besides the omission of how awesome the first party wii games are.
Smash Bros., Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Super paper Mario, No More Heroes, Metroid Prime 3, Wii Sports, Mario Kart(yeah it is racing for dummies, but still mad fun with other people) and Red Steel are all amazing games. If you have any appreciation of nintendo titles, it's something to think about.

Just Kidding about Red Steel, btw. Stay away.

I was about to say... RED STEEL!??!?!
:wtf:
I liked Red Steel. :(
But I did sell it after only playing it for like 2 hours. :shifty:

First Party Nintendo games are basically games for tards. IT wasn't an omission, I deliberately slammed them.
To be honest, when I have friends around, I'd rather not play a shitty game multiplayer. I can just...You know....Come up with a GOOD activity.

I only played Red Steel once, for about a half hour, and I really enjoyed it. Dunno what all the hate is about.

Really depends on what you want as everyone said. It is first a decision between Wii or PS3/360. Then if you want more hardcore games, it goes to ps3 vs. 360. Best suggestion is look at the games you really like. If some of those are exclusive to one system it could help. Otherwise it is more personal preference. There are solid arguments for all three systems.

I dunno, I'm not gonna sit here and argue that nintendo games are like nina gaiden, because they aren't. And yes, an intelligent person wouldn't be challenged by most of it. But they can be very challenging in later sections, and in terms of extra accomplishments. And besides, just because its not that hard, doesn't mean it's not fun. That's really the beauty of these titles.
Regardless, this is splaya we're talking about, so they probably would be almost unbeatable for him. Maybe he should just skip the whole console thing, and stick to Barbie Fashion Model, for the GBA.
Kane Knight

Yes. the beauty of the titles is you don't have to have any skill, understanding, or even brainpower to enjoy them. Hence the reference to games for the short bus. I mean, if you enjoy them, that's fine; I was simply pointing out that I very clearly did not omit them. Hell, I like sudoku, a game that five year olds can do.

Also, and I hate to use a ZP point for the sake of argument, but I have a problem with any "multiplayer" game which requires exensive single player play to unlock shit for multiplayer. If the point is multiplayer, I shouldn't have to sit through hours of single player time to unlock shit just to play with friends.
This wouldn't be as much an issue if it was a game I actually found to be fun, or worth investing time in.

With SSBB, you can actually unlock everything in multi-player.

With SSBB, you can actually unlock everything in multi-player.Oh. Well, in this instance, I retract that. In fact, I wish more games were like that.
