dude when life gives you lemons is such an amazing album, they've been around long enough they deserve some mainstream success.

You definition of "success" is alittle different than mine..

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you fucking bastards.

I just hope Atmosphere doesn't sell out. I will cry.

*sigh*

Well he deserves exposure, I just hope he brings his type of hip-hop to the mainstream without changing shit.

I didn't say mtv was mainstream success I said they deserve some, and maybe this will allow them to obtain that.

Dude I'm one of the bigger indie fans here. Don't think I'm all pro mtv or anything.

Yeah. I'm praying that none of the bands I really like make it to the big leagues, or I might just have to kill myself in a depressive snit.

Three 6 Mafia used different producers for their new album for the first time in the history of the group.. I blame their MTV show..

I'm not against them getting success, but the will compromise their style just like every other group that turns "pop"..

I had no idea who they were, but I saw them on MTV and now they're my favorite band of all-time. woooo. when can I call them into TRL????

You know, I'm with Krispy on this one. Have any of you heard any of the Black Eyed Peas' stuff prior to hitting it big on MTV? It's like night and day compared to what we're subjected to now. :(

Indifferent Clox

That doesn't mean it will change for the worse. I respect Atmosphere much more than that. Plus they've been around much longer. Their change came prior to them being on mtv and from what I'm hearing it's for the better.

While it's true that being on MTV doesn't automatically mean your sound will change, I just have a bad feeling. Aesop Rock seemed to manage ok, I guess.

I'm def with you on the Peas.. I even saw them in 98 before they had Turd Ferguson and that light skinned indian dude and yeah, they were totaly different back then..

Not every band changes just because they get on MTV. You guys are acting like they're automatically going to sell out because they got some attention. It's like holding a funeral because someone went to the hospital.

I can not think of a Hip Hop act that made it onto MTV that didn't change their style.. You guys are acting like they were hurting for fans.. I haven't seen a Wu Tang video on MTV since "Gravel Pit" and they are still doing aiight..

i could give a fuck less how many fans they have. it's ultimately their decision so whatever. i don't care.

Blitz

When Slug starts rapping about pouring Cristal on bitchez and pimping his ride, then I could understand getting mad. But he hasn't, so give them the benefit of the doubt.

Nah. We're acting like exposure isn't inherently a bad thing, and that getting sad over someone becoming successful is incredibly gay.

It like, thinking someone is amazing, and getting pissed because most people agree with you. Who gets upset when someone agrees with them?

Indifferent Clox

I agree. with Fabien on this point.

I expect immediete backlash and am prepared for the flame war that will ensue as such.

It's not about exposure, you f'n simpletons..

It's about compromising style.. Not a sure thing they will, but history tells us, the chances are great..

I'll go back to the Three 6 Mafia example.. I have been a fan of them since they were SPV Click in like 1993.. The main thing that drew me to them over the years, was the DJ Paul/Juicy J beats.. Same can be said for ALOT of their original fan base.. The hardcore fans expect dirty ass down South breaks and whatnot.. The fact that now they've gain a broader fan base due to exposure on MTV (mainly being 16 year old girls) and they go out a pay garbage ass producers like Scott Stortch makes me, a hardcore fan, not even want to listen to the album.. Do you think people that loved the Black Eyes Peas' laid back, backpacker style went bonkers over "Don't Mess With My Heart" or Fergie's new album?? You guys can't be serious..

All I can say at this point is, I hope they don't compromise their style, but if they do, I hope they do it like Lil Wayne.. Weezy puts out the lamest studio albums on earth, while still destroying beats on mixtapes and ripping other MC's new assholes..

But, sadly, I would be surprised if Atmosphere's first single is "I Need Love 2k8"..

please don't compare 36 mafia to atmosphere.

Fabien Barthez

For sure, WeX. It is only now they will be given the choice of whether to intentionally replicate the softer, more lucrative styles, and turn their back on their own personal musical credibility.

Right now, its just a compliment that they are being pushed through to the mainstream. From here, we will be able to judge whats more important to them. The paper, or artistic freedom.

Just by looking at MTV's track record, I have reason to think this will end poorly..

History repeats itself..
