View Full Version : So, why aren't they in a tag team?

Elijah Burke and Shelton Benjamin. I think in kayfabe it was Burke who brought in Shelton to ECW, so why didn't they form a tag team? I don't know because I've never seen them work together, but I can only imagine the two of them could form one of the best tag teams of all time. Their styles are just similar enough that they could gel well together, but they have enough uniqueness to them that they could maintain an individual identity. Plus, and I don't mean this to sound racist, but they're both black guys with the "I'm fucking awesome! Look at me!" gimmick. Shelton does the high spots, Burke carries the mic work, both of them can work a DAMN good match.

Can anyone tell me why they're not together?

Because tag teams don't matter.

And you're using logic, that's anti-WWE.

They have been a tag team a couple of times. Just with the not letting Elijah Burke win a match kinda screws over the idea of putting him with someone else.

In EWR I always team them as the ES Experience...

I think the idea behind not making them an official team, is that the WWE wants to give them singles pushes, only they don't have a clue how to go about that. Of course, the WWE doesn't know how to go about pushing tag teams, either.

In conclusion: The WWE doesn't know what to do with Shelton Benjamin and Elijah Burke.

Agreed.....You can see they WANT to push them, but are fucking idiots and cant.

I also think they know they need some black faces on TV.

Gold Standard + Silver Tongued Pugilist? Gold and Silver? It writes itself.

God, that IS good.

I didn't see much in Burke early on, but what little of him I've seen recently has been fairly impressive. I think these two would worl well a s a tag team, and could still build themselves up as singles competitors.

Well it's clear that they both have potential as singles stars, but it aint happening. A tag team could be just what the doctor ordered. Since they'd make such a good tag team, and the possibilites are so great, they would get over huge. At that point, one star is bound to come out of any successful tag team. This would be one more star than is coming out of what they're doing with the currently, and a great tag team for the time being with the option to fall back on later.

If you wanted to make it a comedy bit for awhile you could introduce a "Bronze" character, and either dress him up like the Heisman trophy or be constantly applying bronzer to his tan. You have the break-up feud already built into the name when Shelton goes around claiming Gold is better than Silver.

If they were serious about them, giving Elijah a custom SILVER belt would be hot.

Good ideas.

The WWE's take would be to just color Burkes hair silver then throw them out there, only to hav their golden and silver hair stolen by Cryme tyme and sold.

ECW doesn't have a tag team division and there really isn't a lot of room for the m to fued with the current SD! champs seeing as A) they're both from ECW and B) they're both heels. What would you realistically build them towards when the company only uses teams they're pushig to fued with the champs?

Are you forgetting THE BRONZE WARRIOR Kenzo Suzuki?

Yeah, you probably are...oh well, just saying, if they wanted someone with a bronze gimmick...

Then they can have a finisher called the "Precious Metal"

Actually, that would be really cool. Shelton Benjamin with a gold belt, and Elijah Burke with a silver belt.

I love John Morrison & The Miz as a tag team, I really do, but I think they have been WWE Tag Team Champions for long enough. I think Kane & CM Punk will be taking the belts at Judgment Day (it adds another title to Kane's resume as a thank you for his hard work, and makes him look like a big deal) and it also decorates CM Punk with something other than a "World Title," (disputed) on his way to another World Title.

They won't be Tag Team Champions for long, though, so you need two guys to take the belts off them. It would seem to fit that Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins could take them, but that feels like a forced title win, if you ask me. Burke & Benjamin, Gold & Silver, The Unstoppable Experience could actually look fairly credible in beating Kane & Punk, I think.

Also, despite them making fine heels, both Benjamin & Burke work better in face roles, I think. A face turn down the line could be pretty fucking sweet stuff.
