View Full Version : Lesser Known Wii Games

Instead of making a few topics for each of these games, thought I'd combine it into one. Basically I have played some great games for the Wii that are not all that well known. I hope others will bring to our attention some similar games too. But with the Wii we are seeing some fairly new/different type of games that I personally find a lot of fun. I'd specifically like to mention two of them at this time.

Boom Blox

Video Review:

I just bought this game a few days ago and I am loving it. I have yet to try the multiplayer mode, where it supposedly really shines (probably will try it tonight). But as for the single player, it is just a blast to play. I think this video review made some good points with how they opened it. This game probably isn't for everyone, but for those who like puzzles they will love it.

basically there are a variety of modes here, but it all revolves around a bunch of blocks stacked up. Similar to the game jenga, but sometimes played in reverse. You can throw things at it to topple it over, or pull them off one at a time depending on the mode. I feel I cannot personally do this game justice, but highly recommend you look into it more. I will admit that the price of $50 is a bit steep, as it seems more like a 30 or 40 dollar game. But Steven Spielberg was behind this game in some way as his name is attached to it.

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaro's Treasure

Again a video can show more than words:
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DyOv2Kp8GfE&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DyOv2Kp8GfE&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

This video just shows you the beginning of the game, not really getting into all that much detail. But again we have a puzzle based game here, and things get fairly difficult and complex as time goes on. The basic gameplay is point and click style, but you also are required to use your wii mote in innovative ways. For example in the video you have to cut down a tree to use it as a bridge. You use a saw to cut it down, and must use the wiimote as the saw while cutting. And there are examples of this too.

The game has been out for a few months now, and it was originally priced at $40, I am not positive but it is probably around $30 now. The game is really just a blast and a great way to stimulate your mind. My brother (28) and sister (25) aren't gamers of any sort. But they saw me playing this one day and quickly started their own game of it and were unable to put it down (until I took my Wii back to school with me). It really is a great game for anyone who likes logical type puzzles. And with it's low price point, it truly is a must buy.

That is it for my two reviews. I would be interested to hear if any of you have played either of these games and what you thought about them. Also if there are any other games you would like to recommend obviously do so. We see so many thread for the big AAA game titles that have Mario in them, but games like these deserve credit too.

I had Zack and Wiki for a while, but I only played it twice. It's a great game, but for some reason I was never motivated to play it. I heard it sold pretty well, which is nice. The Wii needs unique games like this.

I think I'm going to pick up Boom Blox today. I want to make a 3D bloque man in the create mode.

Was just in the Photo Album and saw the bloque men thread and wondered if you would get all excited for Boom Blox...guess I was right.

Good idea for a thread. I don't have a lot of Wii games, and Boom Blox looks cool.

Also, while I don't own it, let me throw out the name Elebits.

Yeah, I don't know much about Elebits really, but from what I hear fits perfectly in here. Exactly what I mean, like you may hear a game mentioned even but never really bother to look into it. All these games are solid games and fun, just not super legendary games thus they don't get all the publicity they deserve.

Elebits was really fun. I love quirky games that only Japan would make. The controls, for the most part, were pretty good. Every now and then the camera would go nuts though. Obviously Metroid controls a lot better, but Elebits was a great example of what first person controls could be like.

I am probably picking up Boom Blox tomorrow (I could find my wallet and by the time I did it was raining and I didn't want to get soaked). I watched the Gametrailers' review and they sold me on it. Every single review for the game has been great. I love games like that. I even love hitting pedestrians in GTA IV because of the new physics engine.

Blom Blox looks pretty cool because it involves gravity and I like gravity.

Gravity's for pussies. :Shifty:

Speaking of which, I ended up ordering Elebits used.

Tried some Boom Blox multiplayer last night, it was enjoyable until my friends got all gay. Like one friend and I were really into it. One guy hated it from the start (but his type of videogames are Madden), then the other would just purposefully ruin the game. Wanted them two douchebags to leave, but ended up beating them in the TV trivia kings game. Then we played mario kart like we have been since it came out, and I still destroyed them in that.

I bought Boom Blox today and I can say that from the hour and half I've played so far it's awesome. I'm only 6% done (according to the game). I can't wait to try multiplayer and the custom levels.

How much did you get Elebits for, KK? I kind of wish I didn't sell my copy. That game was pretty fun. A sequel for the DS should be out this fall. I think another one for the Wii is in the works too.

Boom Blox is amazingly fun, probably my favorite game on the Wii (I have Galaxy, SSBB, Mario Kart, etc).
