I DONT CARE ABOUT THE OFFSEASON TOPIC.....

ESPN NEWS IS REPORTING THAT THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES HAVE ACQUIRED TERRELL OWENS!!!

Philadelphia Gets Terrell Owens

San Francisco gets Brandon Whiting

Baltimore gets PHI 5th Round Pick (2004) (and their 2nd Round pick sent to SF back)

THIS ALL STEMS FROM the 49ers knowing they were going to lose the arbitration case (making TO a Free Agent) so they wanted to work out a deal for compensation.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA......... Take that all you people who thought this would never happen. KEARSE AND OWENS: HELL YEAH

don't worry, no amount of talent will stop the Eagles from being chumps.

"Start" throwing a hissy fit? I thought he already did, what with bitching and whining about going to Philly and all.

Derr, he throws a fit to get what he wants. I'm sure he's happy now.

It's not one long hissy fit... you know, sometimes he plays, and plays goddamn well.

So many people hate on him, and are like, blah blah money this money that, but if you're one of the best in the league, you'll understand.

Until then, these people need to shut up and smell the sour grapes. TO is awesome, and the Eagles are lucky. Unfortunately, they're in desperation mode, and if they don't win it all NOW, they're in big cap trouble.

I'm sure he is happy. That doesn't mean he isn't a whiney little baby though.

And yes, he is good. So is Marvin Harrison, but you don't see him stroking his ego at every opportunity.

Marvin Harrison gets the ball thrown to him constantly. It's why Manning has so many INTs. Everyone knows he'll get the ball. He set the NFL record for receptions. Do you THINK he would complain?

On the other hand, check out Tory Holt. He finally established himself as a top-5 receiver, but Bruce is on the decline, so I'm sure Holt's receptions will go higher and higher as well, thus not having to complain about receptions.

I think a lot of Owens' malfunction is a sense of urgency. Think about it: He is one of the best WRs of our time, and he had to play in the shadow of Jerry Rice. Randy Moss had the same problem with Cris Carter. Carter retired and Moss became the #1 option, and that made Moss happy.

Rice left the 49ers and that made Owens happy, and if you think about it, he had a few quiet years where he was amazing and didn't complain -- however, he was spirited, with the Cowboys midfield incident coming to mind. It was awesome, IMO, but the 'niners offense began sputtering, and the knock on Garcia was that he couldn't throw it long. Well, say hello to Donovan McNabb, the bigger, younger, blacker and more heterosexual version of Jeff Garcia. I'm sure Owens won't be happy long, but would you blame him? It's the male version of the biological clock. You know you are only productive for so long, it's why HBs play the hardest. If someone doesn't allow you to play your best, you'd be pissed too. If someone was holding you back, or holding you down, you could take it like a bitch and accept the fact that you'll never amount to anything, or you can make your voice heard and demand the chance to prove yourself.

lol. We all know Owens heard he was a Raven and crapped his pants at the thought of Ray Lewis hitting him in practice.

Anyways, Owens is a great player on the field but he is like the anti-Michael Vick. Falcons suck without him but as soon as he steps on the field, he just brings the entire team's spirit up. Owens' presence on the field is a DISEASE. The 49ers were just as good without him. And my god, Jevon Kearse is good... he is not the be all and end all of defensive football players. I'm glad you can cream yourself over this but, lol.

It's Yankee/Redskin fever.

When they lose in the WC round this year, they will decide they need a better Safety and Corners. They will pick up Sam Madison.

They will decide it's time to get a new HB so they will get, say, Michael Bennett and give up draft picks.

Reid will be fired this year or next year.

They will keep on piling new talent on the old talent trying to cross the hump... and it will be entertaining to watch. It's not about who you have, it's about using who you have properly.

What the Hell are smoking? better safeties? Brian Dawkins is the best FS in the league, and Michael Lewis is the most underrated starter in the league, and BOTH of them hit harder than Roy Williams in dallas.

If there is more of a pass rush from the line then the corners will do great. The pass rush is the reason that Vincent and Taylor were so good in single coverage.

Reid will not be fired any time soon, the eagles are the ONLY team that has either improved or maintained their winning record for the last 5 seasons.

and i will agree, it is about using who you have properly, but when Trash and Pinkston drop every other catch thrown to them... how can you use that properly? With TO, Pinkston will line up against the #2 and #3 CB's, you will see a great improvement

I forgot about Michael Lewis. :dunno: I thought they were without a SS... and Dawkins has proven that he's becoming injury-prone. Wasn't he out like three times last season? Best when he's healthy, yes, but what does that mean?

Corners, that remains to be seen. It was a for-instance, but what happens if it's not good enough? What used to be the Eagles' greatest place of depth... no longer is... they are being spread thin, and that's a hard place to be. A very fragile ecosystem, if you will.

It can go one of two ways, and only two: This experiment will be a success, and the Eagles will cross the threshold, or it will fail and they won't. And what I'm saying is: If it doesn't work, they will work harder to try next year and overpay more talent to go there.

With hopes this high, Philly has to win the Lombardi trophy. You can't expect to have moderate success and remain head coach. Ask Dennis Green, Tony Dungy or Steve Mariucci. Nobody is safe, especially if you can't win the big game. And what I'm saying is, that with the two top "Free Agent's" in the NFL in their pocket, the Eagles staff have the crosshairs on Andy Reid. If he doesn't do it this year, he'll be lucky if he stays... and if he can't do it next year, there's no chance he does.

As for the receivers, that's an excuse. What did I say? The Patriots lack talent in the WR department, and the Ravens of 99 did too. You don't need your WRs to go over the middle if you play the field right. If you KEEP TRYING TO FORCE IT OVER THE MIDDLE with undersized receivers, whose fault is it?

Do you get pissed when you ask a kid to carry a couch, and he drops it? I hope not, because you'd be the idiot for making a kid do something he can't. You have to mask your deficiencies... not whine about them and use them as excuses for not succeeding. Every team has flaws. If you can't overcome them, you will fail.

Of course, I have to come here and STRIAGHTEN ALL OF YOU OUT (EXCEPT downsider) & (especially you, AlphaBean).

1) This year was Brian Dawkins' FIRST injury. He has never missed as much time as he did this past season AND the DEFENSE held it together with a 9 GAME WINNING STREAK. Damn, the Eagles safeties are amazing. B-Dawk and Mike Lewis are one of the Top 3 if not the BEST Pair of Safeties in the Game. Every team in the NFL wishes they had Dawkins and Lewis. Oh and by the way, before last season.... Dawkins signed a 7-Year Extension... so he is NOT going anywhere.

2) The Eagles DO NOT overpay for players. if anyone on this message board knows anything about NFL Salaries, they would know that NFL Contracts ARE NOT GUARANTEEDED. Jevon Kearse's deal was 8 Years for 66 Mil and 16 Mil signing bonus. Jevon is guaranteeded the signing bonus but none of his salary. If he was cut today we would get nothing from the $66 Million. PLUS all the High Base Salaries are in the later years. So he will play about 5-6 years with us (win a couple of Lombardi's) and we'll cut him.

Doesn't anyone remember that the Eagles have gotten to 3 NFC Championship Games (yes, I know, we lost them... ok... I realize that... move on... BUT) we got to 3 NFC Title games WITH JAMES THRASH AND TODD PINKSTON AS OUR WRs! Now I like Pinkston, he has shown good play in the past and now with TO, Pink should step up his game. But now the Birds have TERRELL OWENS! Terrell Owens, the same guy who has more TDs than any other WR in the NFL in the past 4 or 5 seasons (I forget which, you all know the stat.) Why wouldn't that give the Eagles a HUGE EDGE in the NFC. If they went to the NFC title game with Thrash and Pinkston... they will be a million times better with Owens and Pinkston.

The Eagles are not done with the free agents or adding depth to the team. Of course the draft hasn't happened yet but also... the Eagles are looking for a veteran Cornerback. I don't know who it will be, there is a chance of Bobby Taylor returning (which I would like, being that he knows the system), he could sign a 1 year deal being that too was injured last season. They are extremely high on Lito and Sheldon and they should have support with a VASTLY IMPROVED DEFENSIVE LINE... which was 1) DESTROYED BY INJURIES LAST YEAR (Grasmanis- a great roleplayer, run-stuffer & Hollis Thomas - former starter, run-stuffer, fan favorite) Don't forget Jerome McDougle, Jamal Green (both rookie DEs from Miami). Now we have JEVON KEARSE who only missed 2 games last season, Jerome McDougle set to start on the other side and now with N.D. Kalu back to being a situation pass-rusher (which will keep him healthier, especially on special teams... remember NFC Title Game 1 vs the Rams, he almost blocked that kick with only minutes to go). Plus Kalu is practicing on being a back-up Linebacker.
So with the vastly improved line getting much needed pressure on the QB, the pressure on the QB will help Lito and Sheldon with their assignments.

AS for the 1999 Ravens and the 2003 Patriots.... their defenses were healthy and dominate during their runs as World Champions. The 2003 Eagles' defense was decimated with injures as I stated above. Plus the 03 Pats had a great passing attack, come on... don't you know anything?

Should I mention that Troy Vincent missed the last 3 regular season games and was hurt again during the playoffs (just like the 2001 Season, TV's hip was injured really bad in the NFC Title game against the Rams.

AND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kearse and TO being added (along with Dhani Jones) is NOT an EXPERIMENT, they are on the team together for a minimum of 4 years. This is a great team. Plus the Eagles know how much they can spend for a player, they manage the cap beautifully.

BY THE WAY..... someone said that TO is terrible because only Bal and Phi were going after him.... I GOT NEWS FOR YA! ONLY BALTIMORE AND PHILADELPHIA HAD THE CAP SPACE TO ADD HIM TO THEIR ROSTER BECAUSE BAL AND PHI KNOW HOW TO MANAGE A CAP.

Eagles will be incredible this year. All they need is more depth (which they will get thru the draft) at LB, CB and a #3 QB and #3 RB.
