View Full Version : I was feeling pretty burnt on wrestling here lately

And then I started watching Indy/foreign stuff again. (Hadn't been able to in like a month.) And my adoration for wrestling was re-kindled.
So what makes you all keep coming back? What makes you guys love wrestling? Like when you feel like you've seen enough, how do you light that spark?
For me it just takes some real wrestling, you guys know what I mean. After just watching American mainstream wrestling for the past month I was so fucking bored with it it was crazy. Dunno. Watched Danielson vs Aoki and I was pumped for wrestling again, and the match wasn't super awesome or anything, it was just that I felt like I had actually seen a match. Which is something that I hadn't felt in a little bit.
How about you guys?

My city barely gets indie wrestling shows, and when we do they're not really any good. That said, they're fun to watch and most guys out there are just trying to have some fun and entertain the people at the shows. There are a few guys trying to make it. I have lots of respect for both types of wrestlers.
Last show they had (and for future shows) I got to work security and whatever else the promoter and anyone else could find for me to do. So I guess my spark has been lit by being a part of it (no matter how little I've done and will be doing).
It's nice to watch WWE and their high productions and tight wrestling... no matter how little wrestling there is, and how bland it may be at times.
I love wrestling and my interest is at its peak when the actual wrestling is great. TNA and WWE have been lacking on tv lately. TNA usually delivers one good match a week (sometimes great).

I've been meaning to track down some ROH, but money is super tight (unlike my mom).
A lot of my spark died due to the lack of Eddie, Benoit, and Angle (Angle hasn't been amazing in TNA).

I got really burnt out on the it for a long time, mainly because I was always at work whenever the shows were on, and I usually relied on spoilers to keep up. It doesn't help that WWE gets pretty damn predictable, so you can usually tell who's going to win before the match even starts.
So every now and then I just look up some random match I've never seen before (doesn't even matter if it's a good one) so I can appreciate it for what it is.

While we're on the subject of RoH though, has anyone else noticed how hard it's getting to get find RoH stuff on the net since they've gotten PPV? (Not to buy but to pirate.) Lie as soon as someone ups something it's gone. Is that something RoH is doing or whats the deal there? I haven't seen much RoH lately except for one forum where it requires you to have like 500 posts and a special pass to get into the RoH media forum. All the other media is open for eveyone though.

Wish I could help ya with an answer Dest, but I usually just buy all my DVD`s when I go to shows. But I would bet that it is ROH taking the stuff done because they are pretty adamant about stuff on the web. Then they started with the Vault Classics on youtube. But I would say yeah, its probably ROH taking it down.

I realize it's an acquired taste. Dunno. It's got a real charm about it. At times it's barely above a backyard fed, in terms of production and wrestling. I love the wackiness, I love the commentary, I love the gimmicks. And what can I say, I enjoy a good spot fest.
But they do have some real solid workers, and a lot of good talent you don't see much elsewhere. I love it.

Truthfully some of the in-ring stuff doesn't always come off great, but some of the young guys are progressing amazingly quickly. The Ants, and Osirian Portal especially, are way better than guys with their experience should be.
Also try and find Kingston vs Shane Storm from earlier this year. Brutal match.

ROH's first show in Virginia last month reignited my love for wrestling. I had been watching RAW and TNA out of habit for the last few months, but that show showed me why I used to love wrestling and why I watched it. Can't wait for the next show on August 1st.
Also the ending of this Prince AJ angle and upcoming fued with Kurt Angle has got me back in love with TNA.
RAW I still watch out of habit, and hopes to see DH Smith. Although Ted Dibiase Jr. is looking like a reason to watch.

Only thing that keeps me coming back is probably force of habit. That being said i never bothered watching ONS and it was a free ppv here in the uk, watch about 25 mins of raw monday night and turned that off as well.

I'm enjoying Raw at the minute. But what keeps me coming back is generally when they get it right. For those few glorious moments when they create a golden opportunity for a good run in, or angle and they do it.
This week's raw was good. The womens match was amazing and slid beautifully into the Kennedy / Burchill segment. Kennedy is finally getting what seems to be a decent push. I don't care if he seems to be a bit like stone cold, because stone cold was arguably the best thing to happen to the wwf. I was hoping they were going to redo Vince / SCSA with Regal / Kennedy. Which TBH would be great as both of them can wrestle, and I really like Regals wresting style.
Umaga had me bored to begin with but for some reason I really like him. His samoan drop, espeically to the lighter guys where he throws them up first, looks perfect imo.
I think part of what people want is a Face who uses heel tactics, to get the job done. Someone a bit cocky like Randy orton, who should be a heel, but gets cheered. I think this is somewhat highighted by Batista / Shawn Michales. Shawn did what he had to do, he cheated, but he got the job done.
Randy Orton against Cena was getting cheered for kicking the crap out of Cena. But that just says something about what the fans want.
Vince needs to understand that if its a given that every main event on raw is either a 4/6/8 man tag match with the current main event players or a singles match that 99% of the time ends in a DQ, he needs to put the entertainment in somewhere. Ok saving the good singles matches for PPV is good business and you can't fault him for that, but when its practically a foregone conclusion that its going to end that way, make the storyline more in depth or add some spice to it another way. They managed it during the late 90's - early 2000's.
And one last thing is that they should have one undisputed champ of WWE. The two world titles just makes it watered down. And whilst I don't watch ECW all that often it at least makes sense as a development territory where people can learn their craft on the TV.

I don't want to move the discussion too far from independent and foreign wrestling, but I watched ECW this week, and fucking loved it. Seriously, a pretty damn good show. The Fatal Four Way to open was good, if nothing too special. Dreamer is underrated at this stage of his career, I really like Chavo, and Morrison and Punk have the goods.
Then we got Matt Sydal on ECW, and he was fantastic. He took his beating like a champ, and hit a swank hurricanrana, and he did that also move off the top rope. I don't even know what to call that. A flying double high knee press? Also, I smiled at the "FCW!" champ some guy in the front row tried to get started. Then Shelton powerbombed Sydal into Kofi, and had his cake (by winning the match), whilst eating it, too (by doing something to Kofi). Kingston then lost it, and I must say, I really like his character. I loved the little touch he added about not normally turning his back on Mike Knox. Awesome.
Mike Adamle is still hilarious on the mic. "Jamaican me crazy" made a re-appearance.
Theodore Long is great, even if his face bias stuff gets pretty annoying, at times. I don't know why he was being so malicious to Armando Estrada, but good old Alejandro is a fantastic little character, and he reacted to everything almost perfectly. Not sure he's good in the ring, but if he's kept up his training, he could be quite good. This "earning his contract" angle could be fantastic stuff.
It was good to see Matt Hardy on ECW, as he's one of my favourites. He's got a deceptive amount of personality, and I love the way he seems to be more cocky and arrogant now that he has a major singles championship to his name. Now all we need are some Matt Facts...
Colin Delaney winning = money.
Kane and CM Punk then had a great little outing. The drama and the story was there in spades. Kane saw his brother shown the door at One Night Stand, and wants to take out his frustrations on someone. As ECW doesn't have a secondary title, Theodore Long set up a match to set up a match that could set up an ECW Title match. It's a little farfetched, and wasn't really explained well, but it makes sense. It shows how much the ECW Title means to someone like Punk. Kane also wants to prove something to Big Show heading into Night of Champions. If he is going to make a 422lbs man fear him, he can't let a 222lbs man live. Punk also holds a briefcase which makes him an instant threat to Kane, and has even stated he is coming after the ECW Championship with it.
The drama was all there in that main event, and the match itself was good. Kane and Punk brought their A-game, and there was some tense stuff at the end. Kane getting the win was good, made perfect sense (considering Punk had wrestled earlier, and had also wrestled a brutal match at One Night Stand), and then the WWE Tag Team Champions attacked the ECW Champion, and I am interested in why.
People joke about ECW being shitty and all that, but it really captivated me this week. If it keeps chugging along, it should be fine. Also, I guess I keep coming back out of audacious hope that things will turn themselves around.

Have not watched any WWE for ages. Not seen a PPV since Wrestlemania and can't be bothered watching RAW or Smackdown! as it is the same shit all the time. Boring matches, boring angles and the wrong wrestlers getting pushed have caused me to stop watching. Don't watch TNA as I can guess it is just as bad.
Might watch the Raw with the draft on it in a few weeks time to see how they mix the rosters up. But other than that my patience with Vince's shitty product is nearing an end.

Its not as much as it used to be. However, I think a lot of it still has to do with who is still there. After Austin and the Rock began to get going, the Hardy's debuted. I'm amazed by them because I said back in the day that they would never amount to anything more than a tag team.
Umaga has REALLY GROWN on me. It used to be where I was like eh, here comes Umaga. Now I hear his music hit and sends chills down my spine.
Same with Taker. I hear that Gong hit, see that TitanTron come on, and I get chills. Don't ask me why.
Randy Orton, at times boring on the mic, but when he is on, there is no one better.
