back in the old days (99) wrestlers (kayfabe) hated each other and would ambush backstage/during matches. you never see that now. you just see matches now with like no emotion other than "I want the title"

I prefer the days of shoot comments and everything. Bret and Shawn were brilliant.

What? Heels don't respect Faces at all. And faces have always respected faces.
Guess JBL should have stabbed Jericho in the throat, as hanging him was apparently a sign of respect.

Which is really beside the point, since he's complaining about how it's happening all the time.

Yes, but How many guys turned heel "to get respect", and how many faces start their careers "to gain respect" from the vets? Sure, there are matches, but no serious feuds in the line of emotional investment, or personal grudges. It's a vast majority of disconnected bouts over the trophy. And that's not bad, now and then. But, considering the lack of investment from viewers seems to have grown in correllation to the lack of truly passionate battles, one might think it's time to rekindle the passion, as it were.

yea, I've been hating this for the past 3 years. They've wore out the whole babyface respect matches with me. It's boring and stale

Seriously, if Cena said that to Hunter, I'd like him again.

I can see what you're on about and believe its one of the problems in todays wrestling, partly due to Vince hiring writers who don't give a shit about wrestling.

I don't think it's so much that they don't care, but that they don't know. That's simply speculation, of course, but it seems a better fit.

Or maybe they don't know because they don't care?

It's a possibility. But I tend to think they don't know because they just don't know. I'm sure they'd rather focus on their own work than trying to emulate writers of the past, but that may be an artist thing and not so much an ignorance thing.

Yeah there is a whole lot less intensity in most feuds these days and in the interactions between wrestlers. Good call.

Thats why I liked the Undertaker/Edge program. The only time they were in the ring together and not getting it on was when there was a ladder in between them...and Taker was still circling it trying to get to Edge.
I'm sick of these programs where people are supposed to hate each other, yet stand face to face...and talk. You think Austin stood face to face with Bret and talked him to death? No when Austin got within arm's reach he attacked.

I agree, I've always though that was stupid. Two guys hating each other, just standing around teasing each other? Boring.

The whole HHH/Orton feud was them talking to each other, I hate the guy but I'm gonna debate him for 15 minutes

HHH: Orton I'm not laughing because I know how tough you really are blah blah blah.
I would of liked it better if HHH just went on a Meanstreak and kicked Ortons ass.

The problem is mainly related to the MONNNNAAAYYYYYY. Not the millionairemania thing.
You don't give away good matches on TV. Therefore only on PPV will the big singles matches happen. Therefore you have four weeks (on average) TV time to fill without letting those wrestlers meet one on one. Therefore they have to stand around and talk a lot to fill in. But when the alternative is a 4/6/8 man tag match with the current top players I'll take the promo. The only exception to the rule is a singles match which ends in a DQ. Like last night.
Last nights raw had no promo's at all oher than Jericho / HBK. But its the 60 second throwaway segments that usually are the most enteratining.
The sad thing is that occasionally they'll throw in a really good raw (Almost always the first Raw off a PPV I note) and show they can still do it.
But the segment that stands out to me in recent memory is Kane / Lita at the 15th Anniversary. It was a throwaway segment, 45 seconds long and had me properly laughing for a good 5 minutes.

I remember Cena and HHH cut a promo on raw saying:
"concentrate on you match or you won't make it to the clash"
to each other. WOOOO great :|
(WWE Writer's room, June 7th 2008)
JEW: So, we've got Triple H and Cena, and they argue back and forth for awhile, and we got some good lines in there to use for the promo video, some good camera shots for WWE.com stills - looks good.
HARVARD GRAD: Yeah, I like it. I mean, they're saying the same things they've always said, but different. So it's good. Let's go with that.
CREATIVE GUY:....guys, isn't this a little boring? Two guys talking for 15 minutes? We should put some violence in there or something, right? I mean, it's wrestling.
HARVARD GUY: I do not write for wrestling! This is entertainment of sports!
CREATIVE GUY: Whatever, I'm just saying we should give this thing a twist.
JEW: He's right. Let's have them both stand on the announcer's table, right, and they're face to face, talking crap, and then Triple H steps down, like he's not going to do anything, right? And then he TRIPS HIM! Get it?! Triple H! He's gonna trip him and then run away! Because that's who his character is!
HARVARD GUY: Remarkable. It's not too violent, but it's just violent enough. And it'll give John a chance to act angry!
CREATIVE GUY: Why doesn't he Pedigree him through the table? Or hit him with a sledgehammer or the belt or something?
JEW: Did you not GET the Triple H tripping him thing? God. Why do you even work here?
CREATIVE GUY: I have no idea.
