View Full Version : How does Eddie Murphy still have anything you can call a career?

I just saw an ad for his new movie. Looks like the same annoying, retarded character he's played in almost every movie he's done since like the 90s. How the fuck does he still sell enough tickets to merit making Murphy vehicles?

Hey, Norbit was nominated for an Oscar.

Repetition is a recurring character for eddie in just about any movie of his. If i were in his shoes i'd do the same thing, play the same type of character w/ a different name, make a bunch of money and move on to the next project, sounds pretty sweet.

Is it another family friendly movie?

He actually could still be funny if would do more than pander to children and make the kind of great comedies he used to.

Agreed. Him and Martin Lawrence were hilarious in LIFE.

He probably could have had something if he held Norbit back a little while longer, I think that's what kept him from grabing the Oscar for Dreamgirls.

But this trend of him playing 5 roles in a movie has gotta go.

LOL okay.

He could also be funny if he stopped making shit movies.

Funnier still is that people still buy his movies, though.

LOL okay.

Lol, what i meant was that since most of his roles in movies are so similar that he doesn't have to work that hard to learn the role per se.

Bowfinger was hilarious. I don't know why he picks alot of shitty movies though, it'd be kinda cool to see him in a heelish role or something in a serious film.

Has he ever acted seriously?

I mean I dunno, I was never huge on Jim Carrey until I saw Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine, which were both stupendous

People are idiots. I bet Mike Myers gets another movie equal in crappiness to The Love Guru made. The man is a star, and Meet Dave will make him a lot of money, and in a few years they'll be another crappy Eddie Murphy "comedy." People will still be stupid, they'll still be people that would be willing to vote for a George Bush, and there will still be people who purchase tickets to "Meet Dave Again!" when it gets made. This time there is a little woman inside Eddie Murphy as well, for mindless sex appeal, and Eddie Murphy will make crappy jokes about how he is meant to be inside her, wink at the audience, and make the film inappropriate for children, and too stupid for any reasonably thinking adult.

KK, in your infinite wisdom and "realistic" outlook on life, you should be able to accept that crappy mainstream American comedies will continue to make a lot of money.

Eddie Murphy was brilliant in Dreamgirls.

I'm fairly certain he would have won the Oscar if he hadn't pissed everybody off by having Norbit released almost immediately afterwards. Destroyed a lot of the good will towards Murphy. I don't think Meet Dave is going to help.

What I want to know, is how both Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy got together, and made something as un-horrible as Shrek, and to a lesser extent, Shrek 2. I mean, I don't despise either guy (I actually have a soft spot for Mike Myers), but given their current career choices, it seems like anything they are involved with should be complete crap by overriding law.
