Oh god, High School of the Dead. I can't. I just can't.
Just watched the scene where the camera pans around a bullet as it passes a hair past this girl's camel toe, and then she maneuvers her bouncing tits around a second. Meanwhile, dude firing the bullets is resting the gun on this other girl's chest, and every time he fires, he's jiggling her tits like a plate of jello in slow motion.
I'd be less embarrassed if my entire workplace walked in on me jacking off, than if one person walked in to see me watching this.
Netflix's new anime Kakegurui is a bit on the weird side, but alright.
I'd say its instantly watchable

I'm really digging black clover. Watched the first couple episodes on toonami and then started moving ahead online. Turns out toonami got in early on this one though, seems they are only maybe 8 episodes behind Japan. Either way it's a pretty fun, lighthearted anime.

Also only 3 more episodes of Super to go. I'm betting Goku gets another transformation by then. I mean it's already been like 30 minutes (in the story) since his last new transformation and that's FOREVER in DB time. So he's way past due.

He gets the real version of Ultra Instinct by the next episode.
Before that it was incomplete or sort of like Super Saiyan God (red) being the quick stepping stone to the better Blue form.

I like how in DragonBall Super they changed up the formula a bit.
Goku thought of his family and friends and was able to power-up to defeat the bad guy.

Theres something that has bothered me for yrs about Gohan's SS2 transformation why the hell did Android 16 trigger it? I don't think they ever said 2 words to each other (at least in the version of DBZ that aired on CN) It was so random did I miss something?

I don't think it was fully explained and I may just be trying to piece the pieces together.
Gohan to that point, While wanting to be powerful, never really ever had the desire to fight. He would only fight when angered. Android 16 despite being a Android programmed with the only purpose to Kill Son Goku.
So Gohan was raised to be a fighter but never liked to fight, and Android 16, Who was designed to Kill but neither did what they were designed for instead loved and cherished life.
Seeing how they were one in the same, 16 Gave into his programming to Kill Cell (which clearly failed) but because they were similar in there ideals, 16 was basically able to explain to Gohan that it's okay to fight in a way that really none of the other Z Fighters could.

Dumbest thing in the world to me is how they had Gohan transform to ss2 in an epic scene with their best animation and anew awesome song....just for him to be back to SS1 again in the next episode, and they go through the transformation again in a far less dramatic way, with shifty animation and a generic BGM.
Always wondered what the duck was up with that.

I know that.Thats not really the main point.
They did the ssj2 transformation twice for no apparent reason.
The first transformation being so awesome just makes the decisio to do it over again in the next episode more baffling.

Final episode of Dragon Ball Super was really good.
The twist about the wish at the end was really great.
Whole tournament was just Zeno testing the virtue of the winner by putting in a hidden rule about the wish needing to be done in good faith. He never really wanted to erase the universes but had no problem doing so if they showed more signs of greed or evil than empathy when given a moment of god worthy power.
If the wish was made for selfish reasons, the winning universe gets erased as punishment since greed was picked over being righteous. Rest of the universes would have stayed erased as the somber legacy of the bad wish.
If the wish was made in good faith, it would have proved the virtue of the winner since personal fortunes were sacrificed in favor of the well-being of everyone else. Rest of the universes get revived as the virtuous legacy of the good wish.

Don't know if you can call it the final episode at this point. After the credits there was a scene saying they would be back after a brief respite. Presumably they'll do the new movie and use that as the jump off point of whatever arc comes next in the series, kind of like how Battle of the Gods and Resurrection F were the jump off of the original run of Super.
I had no idea this thread existed here! Been a massive fan of Dragonball.
The arc finished now I felt was somewhat lackluster though, many failing plot points which did irritate me from the beginning, especially with the culmination of the final battle in ToP.
Jiren I felt was an irritation more than any, especially in the beginning - When ToP started he meditated for god knows how many episodes then fighting from 109 which if memory serves was about 15-20 episodes into the arc itself.
I thought it would lead up to him being so powerful that he exerted an enormous amount of energy causing him to have to meditate again to power up - This was not at all the case though, instead he could have stomped everyone into the ground with time to spare but it felt fake.
Overall there were a lot of great animation and moments throughout, especially the music. I had always grown up on the Bruce Falconer style of music without ever having to listen to the Japanese style - But the Ultimate Battle theme was beyond epic, probably going even further beyond the SSJ3 theme.

I did not say it inspired Power Rangers.
I meant it came well before it did (by about 10 years) and tried to get it in before all the "oh, this is a PR ripoff" hit from people who may have been too young (like on the forum posts under said show on their site). I may have worded it clumsily trying to describe what it was like to the uninitiated, but I know better than that shit. Calm down.
Why does everything have to become some sort of an argument? I wasn't testing anyone's knowledge over sentai shows or shit talking. I just suggested a show I hadn't seen in forever. Either watch it, or don't.

Sadly I'm just finishing the first season. I have this bad habit of falling asleep watching it, and forgetting to turn it off, and then waking up, and it being in a different season.
I seen most of the first season (I'm where All Might shows up to face Nomu) and sadly woke up to see the Tournament type, but I need to go back.

Funimation
(i prefer dubs)
Question: is there a difference in interface?
Legit asking, as I use VRV channels for each. I mean like, for example, is switching dub/sub an on-the-fly option in its own app like it is on DVD, or is it something not worth doing unless you have separate subscriptions? I'm mainly curious to see if I'm leaving something on the table that's specialized by taking the all-in-one route instead of individual sign-ups.
Destor

I might checkalook at Funimation later. I fux with CrunchyRoll, and I'm always amazed at how much of a come up they've made.
I remember when it was just some dump site for anime files. Then, they cleaned it up a bit and made it official. Then, with the building of an empire from the quick turnaround of Naruto subs ASAP after airing in Japan and maybe 3-4 other shows like Eyeshield 21 (I think Prince of Tennis was one of them, too). March on to now, where they're a definitive name in anime. It's kinda like watching your neighbor's kid grow up.
And I asked about the interface because as many options as there are on the VRV app, the layout could be better. Visiting it on the website is better than using a phone/FireTv/XBOX, and since my laptop took a flying dive long ago and I haven't gotten around to replacing it, I use those three options. If a show is dubbed and subbed even in the same place, it is essentially listed twice... and if you let it autoplay, it will run through both in succession as opposed to being one listing and a toggle.
However, given the fact that I don't have to deal with commercials (main reason why I quit Hulu - why pay for a service to STILL get commercials? What the hell am I paying for, then??), I have what looks like the full run of CrunchyRoll, Funimation, and Cartoon Hangover (did I mention that I love Bravest Warriors?!), and random shiz from the other channels, like VRV Select seemingly going all in on the entirety of the Stargate franchise, and, though sloppily implemented, what looks like that "Night Flight Premium" that has been popping up all over my facebook feed being eventually added as another channel, I don't exactly regret where my money is going...
I just think the interface could be less shitty. If I like one of the others better, I might see if it lets me "work backwards" to use it, or if I have to make up a secondary sub to access it.
At any rate, thanks, Destor. I will try them out individually.

Too late.
Initially, it was "commercials = free" and "subscription = no commercials", then they tried to pull an okie-doak, and it became "subscription = still get commercials, but you can maybe watch a few more shows we have now if you want".
They stopped getting money from me after they pulled that shit.
Never looked back. If they made it back to being reasonable, it's too little, too late. The stuff I was using Hulu to see have pretty much become available elsewhere (like Fist of the North Star) or I don't miss it (like ... uh... some other show I was using it for and can't remember now).
Tom Guycott

As for the other thing: it ended up not being worth doing.
I couldn't "work backwards", both CrunchyRoll proper and Funimation require a separate signup/login. Because I never signed up for Funi, and long forgot my CR credentials (I think the last time I logged in is when they first put up Claymore), I needed to make a new login for them just to try out the interface. I already have access to what they have to offer through VRV, and, though I like them better than what I'm using, I don't like them *that much* better. Less clunky doesn't make up for extra work and app space (especially on my unrooted phone, where drive space is at a premium until I get a new one).
I'll stick with working through VRV. Gets the job done.

It wasn't. But part of the charm of the TFS series is the melding of actual series lore from every version of any dubs and original Japanese and any inconsistencies therein on top of their own lore that they fit in through the course of the series in the meta or in the actual plot and universe of the show.
I can't wait for part 3, and I seriously hope this isn't the end of DBZA. But, if it is, what a way to go out.

I still say I believe that last part when I actually see it, considering everything that happened. Methinks that's why Goku's decision to stay dead was worded how it was: a metaphor for the state of the series... kind of a "don't give up hope; but don't hold your breath" statement.

Gonna be a super nerd here and say that the Live Action Bleach movie is good. Like really good. Ok so it helps that 3 of the main characters are played by Kamen Rider Fourze actors but still. Its not a perfect translation but what would be? You do get a lot of the same nice action and the fights are great. It does suffer from the usually adaptation problems these things have but its got the creator's approval.
Here's hoping for at least 2 more movies.

I don't know where else to put this but the new She-Ra is alright. Doesn't really push any SJW malarkey other than certain aesthetics and character design. And everybody seems to be gay. Like, confirmed straight people seem to be rare. It's kinda funny how gay this world is. Probably why the population looks so sparse.
Adora's rival Catra is a standout villain. Adora herself hits all the tropes associated with being a chosen one, though still given a shocking amount of balancing traits. Not only is she not a Mary Sue, an episode pokes fun at her starting to think she is. Several episodes humble her, though that might be a case of 'Benching Superman' since given who her traditional brother is - she is still justifiably OP.
On the elephant in the room: A few references are made to Eternia, established as some other planet. And obviously Greyskull is in her morphing time chatch phrase. But no; specifics are not expanded upon on Eternia, Greyskull, or He-Man. In fact Adora is rebooted as an avatar for the She-Ra power, so she doesn't even need to be Adam's sister anymore.
The fabulous horse with the rainbow wings is back and I shit you not you will not believe in what way he will be used to satire, and who he satires. I legit laughed out loud. I'm not even sure he's actually satire, but I laughed.

I've started watching SSSS.Gridman. Seems v weird so far. Dunno how I feel about it. It's like a bunch of anime clichés of differing types all stuck together. Fortunately it has one really interesting hook, so I'm going to give it a bit more time before I decide whether or not I like it.

Yes. And Voltron and Power Rangers. Its crazy. But the whole set up and why its all happening and the aftermath of each event...those things are very intriguing. I'm gonna keep watching it as it comes out for now. I needed some more current shows to watch anyways.

As with a lot of content from female Progressive writers all the female characters kinda come off as socialite valley girls, but I'm not the target demo so eh. I'll live.
Decent show.
I actually just watched this, and am aligned with most of what Kt's analysis is. Kinda funny about the needle burial on the gaydar given that people lost their shit about where Korra ended up or the supposed "homosexual agenda" of Steven Universe, and this seems like a "fuck you, we'll turn it up to 11!!!" response to all that. Hits every part of the spectrum from Project A-Ko undertones, to Kill La Kill intimation, to yeah totally Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune clear cut couples. That sailor dude is like the only serious 100% straight guy around, even with his over-the-top flaws... he feels like he was written to be the straight version of how gay guy characters were written to be in the 80s. Backing off, though, it seems kinda natural, given the fact that the ratio seems to be about 20 to 1. There are barely even guys IN THE BACKGROUND in the entirety of the show. And because of Bo's voice I immediately think of Wallow from Bravest Warriors, and as such, imagine he goes in every conceivable direction.
Outside of that, I did like the callbacks/easter eggs sprinkled around, like the Grizzlor cameo, or Razz making a comment about Loo-Kee "liking to hide". I was also one of those who was initally kind of down on the redesign; not because of the outcry of "where be the tits?" like many others, but she looked unimpressive from the promo pics. There was no scale. Seeing in scale the fact that she essentially She-Hulks and grows about a foot and a half taller, becomes meatier than Adora as opposed to just a palette swap, it looks a lot better in action than out of context. Also, here, EVERYONE knows she's She-Ra. It doesn't remain some "secret"; it is revealed to pretty much everyone at all times. Also, the transformation sequence seems to be a tad more Sailor Moon inspired than the OG source, and thankfully isn't done all the time.
To me, this feels almost on par with the '02 MotU reboot in that it makes the world and lore make a bit more sense. This She-Ra isn't a girls' "me too" for jumping on the He-Man cash cow like in the 80s. On that, as for the previous spoilery thing it is possible in the future there may be that connection made, be it to Adora or one of the previous iterations of She-Ra, that there was some relation to He-Man. Hell, the Lighthope seems very much like Cortana as made by and in the image of The Sorceress.
If I had to make a guess this might be leaving the door open for possible crossover depending on how the next run of Masters of the Universe goes, what with the upcoming movie and all. Might be some wiggle room there to add a connection later, or leave it out 100% and continue doing its own thing, but it seems to be a deliberate hole left there either way.
Also, Hordak is kinda badass in a really understated way. He doesn't really do shit, but everyone is shook. They *show* the type of ability and fear Shadowweaver instills, and she "knows better" than to directly test him. He isn't flashy or speechy, but everyone is aware that he is in charge for a reason. I dig that.
I'm down for more of this, if they clean up some of the writing. Yes, I understand I'm clearly not the target demo, but the only problem I had with the show as a whole is how quickly some of the plot tone changes from "this show is for little kids, cut us some slack" to "kids are smart enough to understand and follow" and back again. On one hand, you have a 22 minute lesson learning bout of melodrama with something that should be easily solvable but, you know, for kids, so we can't make it complex... but then turn around with deep effects of manipulation and abuse that spans for the whole season and makes some of the relationships not as simple as hero vs villain. Seems like they should be able to manage that better, but it wasn't a total deal breaker for the watching... I mean it has some flaws, but it isn't like it was season 1 of Iron Fist.

Catra is great. Bo seems to be the perfect concoction of 'Gay Best Friend Zone Lvl.Gameshark'. He appears to have all the hall passes a straight guy on the hunt would never get from females (unlimited access to bedrooms at any hour). Even the one counter point gesture with the prom thing was very clearly painted as friendship with no hetero signs. Though the one time later on they could sell him as canon gay, it's played for laughs and he's kinda annoyed/preoccupied.
And again other than aesthetics and undertones none of this is shoved down your throat. No pandering, no lectures outside of the usual cartoon PSA morality. She-Ra is alright.

Out of anime territory completely, but so did Sam from Clarissa. Dude had ladder access to his neighbor's bedroom, and her parents were okay with that.

Psycho-Pass movie is just as good as the series. The set up of the series makes it a really good fit for movies. Stoked for the next one in January.
Moving on I think I'm going to give Tokyo Ghoul:Re a go. My understanding is that the original 2 seasons, while semi popular, pissed a lot of people off because they strayed from the manga too much or something. I thought this was going to be a pure reboot, but it seems like a time skip and using that to change the set up of the show instead. I dunno. Hope it's good. I was actually a fan of the original and hope they didn't damage what I liked about the show in the first place.

Any Blade Runner fans here? You'll like this.
Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, Crunchyroll, and Alcon Television group are going to join forces and produce and distribute Blade Runner-Black Lotus.
This will be a inspiration series to last year's (underappreciated, in my opinion) film Blade Runner: 2049.
Sola Digital will be putting it together. With Shinji Aramaki, director of Appleseed, and Kenji Kamiyama who oversaw Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex taking turns as directors.
The Wrap broke the news, so here's a link.
