Former World :wtf:Heavyweight:wtf: Champion Rey Mysterio is speaking out for the first time about what he calls his "disappointing" title run in 2006. Rey won the belt at WrestleMania 22 in April and only held it until July's Great American Bash PPV. During his short reign on top, he was defeated in several non-title matches by Great Khali, Mark Henry, Rob Van Dam and others. Mysterio tells The Sun, “Now I go back and reflect on it, when I don’t have the title, I think that things could have been handled a different way. Unfortunately I was the champion that lost more times holding the title." The former champ is optimistic that another WWE title run could be in his future and thinks next time can be better. “If that opportunity comes again I know what to aim at and try to perfect, that I didn’t do throughout those three months, and make it better. There is more to Rey Mysterio. I think I can give a lot more. I need to hold onto that opportunity and not let it go.”

Personally, I consider Rey as one of the most awesome in ring performers of all times. His World title match at Wrestlemania was shortened and removed from the so called "main event" spot owing to the high publicity of the Playboy Pillow Fight (the most anticipated main events in wwe history:shifty:) and not to mention Cena's title defense against HHH. Next he gets buried by the Great Khali and Mark Henry. Not to mention his match with RVD at WWE vs. ECW head to head. That was one of the most awful matches of all times. So I guess the wwe could have made his reign a little more acceptable.

As far as another reign as Champion is concerned, I don't see it happening. I guess he would be better off in the Tag Team department. Last but not the least, congratulations to Spain for winning the Euro Cup.

I don't have much to say about a two year old forgettable title reign. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, I guess.

Rey had a title run?

I remember that shortened Triple Threat at WrestleMania 22 when The Ghost Of Eddie Guerrero won the strap, but I don't recall Rey ever holding it.

Hahahahaahhaahahahahahaha see what I did????????what??!?!!?

Rey won it for Eddie just like Orton won the U.S title for Booker. Now I see it, oh it's so clear to me now.

What really annoyed me about Rey Mysterio (at the time that he was world champ), was how he seemingly "milked" Eddie Guerrero's death for all it's worth. Every single damn thing he did was devoted towards Eddie Guerrero. It was heart warming at first, but then it got annoying....fast....to the point where I wanted to punch Rey in the face.

I really don't know if this "milking of Eddie" was Rey's idea or the WWE's idea, but I think it really rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. During his reign, Mysterio was also made to look inferior to Kurt Angle, Undertaker, and other main-eventers that were on the show.

Lastly - I know many won't agree with this, but I think it makes the show look WEAK if someone 5'6 is your world champ. Rey Mysterio deserved to win the title (and I'm glad he did), but I'm also glad that he wasn't champ for too long....and in all likelihood, will never be world champ again.

Rey is just not credible enough to be a long lasting world champ, I'm surprised he won it in the first place.

I dunno if I would buy him as another champ, but some matches with CM Punk for the title could be really good!

I personally never had a problem with Rey Mysterio being a World Champion. The guy is small, but the idea of a small man wrestler holding a top title is marketable as an underdog story. You just have to explain that their style, experience, talent, etc. puts them over the competition.

The WWE didn't do that with Rey Mysterio. How he won the World Title (more on that in a bit) was not redeemed by his reign. Granted, he got to defend the belt against The Great Khali and JBL when it counted, but the non-title victories made it hard to really get behind Rey. The idea of a small champion is he wins despite being small; not that he wins occasionally and waters the World Title down.

They also made it painfully obvious that they were pushing Rey to the top after Eddie Guerrero's death, and they chose the wrong man for it. Rey had just come out of an epic blood feud with Eddie, and while keeping kayfabe after Eddie's death was not called for, but it was like Rey was the only guy allowed to pay tribute for whatever reason. That made me hate his push. Eddie's own nephew wasn't allowed to dedicate the 2006 Royal Rumble to Eddie Guerrero. I still think that Chris Benoit should have been the winner of that match, and received the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania as a tribute to Eddie (so they could have the streamers and confetti come down, and then notably have a moment where Benoit remembers Eddie standing there two years prior with the WWE Title (maybe have Chavo come out with the belt, having won it earlier?). Yes, I just suggested putting the WWE Title on Chavo. If you were going to have an "Eddie makes miracles happen storyline," it makes sense to push the guy's nephew.

Then there was the whole not having the Rumble headline over Mark Henry challenging for the World Title thing. This made the Rumble look secondary. Rey also lost his title shot to Randy Orton, which never should have happened. Rey then got his shot awarded back for no reason at all. Then their WrestleMania match got bumped down, and only received nine minutes. It was all pretty ridiculous.

The WrestleMania main event should have been Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio, given twenty minutes, with Rey not looking like a stupid, selfish cunt heading into the PPV. It was mechanically structured really poorly. I don't blame Rey Mysterio for the flawed title reign. To be honest, despite not being particularly excited by the man, I would not mind seeing him get another crack, if just to give him a reign that isn't remembered poorly.

I thought they made the Cruiserweight title bigger. :shifty:
