About - FUCKING - time we get some sort of sign... anything - telling us that this game is still in crunch mode. Here's some screens to jack off too. For the stupid and nonexistant; DC Universe is an MMO set within the DC Universe made exclusively for the PS3 by an in-house Sony studio. Conversely XB360 will recieve an exclusive MMO set in the Marvel Universe (616 presumely). Although details were vague its been generally assumed that you'd be creating a superhero (or villain) to interact with some of DC's most famous cities, coming in contact with its heroic and not-so-heroic celeberties. Jim Lee is handling art direction. He's awesome, don't worry.

But the Marvel MMO got canceled a while back. Sucks since theres less than a dozen characters in DC that I give a shit about.

There was a war about to break out whether you should be able to create your own character and interact with the MU, or just play as marvel characters. So, its probably good it was canceled before blood was spilled.
And ya know, this is a little off-topic, but I couldln't give a fuck. Why can't we get a Marvel or DC game that is exclusively based on stuff thats actually happened. Not this optional side story crap like in x-men legends. The whole game.
I find myself completely detached from these games when I play them, because everything that happens is meaningless. You KNOW nothing major is going to happen. No one is going to die or anything. You are not playing a comic book game. You are playing a game based on a saturday morning cartoon, thats based on a comic.
I would like to see something along the lines of a storymode like DBZ games. Where you chronologicaly play all through all the crossovers in the title's history. You may know whats going to happen, but playing thrtough all these stories you read as a kid is still way cooler than playing some half-assed story made by a game developer.
Kalyx triaD

I would much rather play stories written by comic talent, or have a game that has fresh issues as DLC to keep it going. It's an idea I had for a Batman game years ago. Release a 'starter game' that features some story arcs and a fully realized Gotham City and update the game via DLC with new story arcs and/or characters.
But you know the relationship between good ideas and the game industry...

Could this finally be the coming of a DC game that doesn't suck horribly?
As much as I vastly prefer DC's comics over Marvel's, they have yet to have a game that isn't a total waste of time. So I'm rather looking forward to seeing if this one will change that.

wtf even happened in final crisis. Like, I got 3 pages into the last issue, and was tired of it already. No fucking idea whats going on. The wholedamn thing was just a complete mess of subplots and required tie-in reading. Fucking awful.
This is exactly why I prefer marvel crossovers. They keep it fucking simple, and it's much more character driven, which is better imo.
I mean, I know they are trying to be as epic as possible here, but they sacrifice any decent flow by cramming way too much shit into one story. Shoulda had Geoff Johns write this shit, cause Sinestro Corps was a perfect example of how to tell a proper epic storyline.

02-08-2009, 09:29 PM
I dunno, I managed to follow Final Crisis pretty easily without all the tie-ins. Sure, it's annoying that they overload the main storyline with sub-plots, but it's not like Marvel doesn't do the exact same thing. Civil War was just as much of a mess at times, and it wasn't nearly as large-scale as FC (cosmically speaking, at least).
Although I'll definitely agree that Sinestro Corps was a much more enjoyable story. Keep Morrison on the trippy stuff like Doom Patrol or All-Star Superman, and let Johns do the heavy-lifting on the events.

Not necc faulting the developers. But he did make is sound as though everyone has a super travel type yet the only two options listed were flight or speed. Not to say that those ARE the only two options, but should everyone really have a super travel ability?

True. Perhaps my character doesn't need any such form of travel. Betting it's a gameplay mechanic more than presentation.

If you want to whip up a hero or a villain and go at it in DC Universe Online, you'll need to pay $14.99 a month to get all of the MMO action. Additionally, since day one, SOE has been dancing around whether or not PC players could play PlayStation 3 players and vice versa, but the company has now confirmed that players will only play with and against people using the same platform.

Considering that everyone will be using an original superhero/villain, it would have made a lot of sense if it took place in the Kingdom Come universe. And it would of been badass.
But I can see from a marketing standpoint why they would go with Earth-1.
Also, hope the JSA is in it, and you can fight them. Prolly gonna make a more old school type of villain. Most of the ones I've seen in screenshots and videos look like they were designed by Rob Liefield.

Go back to the mail room and I'll keep signing in/out to nget the same game for like 15 min
If that doesn't work, fuxck it
click start and go to text icon and look for people nearby. when you see your friend add him to your friends list and invite him to a party by clicking X on his name. Btw yes, it is best to msg him and meet up somewhere. After inviting him to a group then you can create a league. I would prefer if I could search for someone then add them and inv him. Also having a league in its on category to make it like a clan. Also I would like a locate and follow feature added so we could instantly join a friend.
i don't know how to get in the same server tho

The codes aren't unlimited.
Since being pushed (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/04/dc-universe-online-delayed-until-spring-2011/) to an amorphous "spring 2011" release window back in October, DC Universe Online (http://www.joystiq.com/game/dc-universe-online) has been given a solid launch date once and for all: January 11 in North America and January 14 in the UK. Sony Online Entertainment confirmed the dates in an interview with IGN, also announcing the game's $199 lifetime subscription price (a bit over 13 months worth of sub. fees), as well as it's main pricing structure: $49.99 on PC / $59.99 on PS3 with one month subscription, $14.99 for subsequent months.
"We're going to be here for far more than a single year. We've got a lot of universe to build, and we're not going to stop anytime soon," game director Chris Cao said of the lifetime subscription pricing. Cao also detailed an end-of-the-world event that will take place within DCUO before it launches in January. "Jim Lee and our friends at DC are going to join us in a live, end-of-beta event where players will fight alongside and against the iconics as Brainiac's menace yet looms," he explained, adding, "It will be an epic end and thank you for beta. And it will set the stage for the real struggle to come in live."
Another struggle to come alongside the game's launch? How to get players to choose another mentor -- as expected, Superman was the favorite "by far." Of course, we'll be bucking the trend with a super villain mimicking hip-hop personality MF Doom. Too obvious?

Saw this at the store today, and thinking about going and getting it. A lot of people are saying the mandatory update and install takes like an hour and a half to two hours. Others say like 45 minutes. I just got a new modem and router, and everything is running superfast now, so I think I'll be in the latter camp.
Also, one of my minor gripes has been answered. Apparently you can choose not have new equipment visually on your character, but still get the stats for it. That is great, because I didn't want my character looking like a colorful space marine, by the end of the game.
Everyone should pick server 1 so we will not have any problems down the road.

I don't know what dps or tank means.
Krimzon7
01-27-2011, 06:16 AM
A tank is the guy who has a HIGH health bar, and a lot of power in the punch. You pretty much draw the ire of any enemy and keep them busy while the controller debuffs the crowd, and the healer keeps your ass alive.
If you're an ice guy...stick with tanking! DPS is damage per second, but who knows what that means!

Well, you may want to look into how gear effects each class. You may have a lot of gear on that benefits someone in a dps or control spec on your tank. It could really help you out a lot in regards to questing and doing instances.

what are the classes, and what do they do?
Eklipse
01-30-2011, 09:44 AM
what are the classes, and what do they do?
You've got your tank specs. These are the characters that have a lot of HP, high defense, and can take a lot of damage. They also have high survivability. The best powers for tanks are Fire and Ice. For tanking as a Fire wielder, you want to put all your points into the immolation tree. This will increase your total health by 80% and healing recieved by 80% as well.
As far as Ice goes, you want to put points into the Cryogenics tree. By doing so, all damage recieved goes down by 20%. Also, by using your normal powers, you can increase your defense and toughness by 200% for a period of time.
Since tanks are the only specs I've really learned well in the game, I'll just give you a brief idea of everything else.
The specific job of the Tank is to keep enemies attacking them and not other party members. Since the Tank has the most health and will take less damage from attacks than both other specs, it's imparitive for the survival of the party that the tank do his job well, especially in higher level instances/alerts. Once the tank goes down, everyone else pretty much goes down quickly. Which is why it's good to have a good:
Healer. The Healer's job is to do just that: Heal. They keep the party alive by using their healing spells. They generally have far less health than either other spec, but have much higher power (magic). A healer would want to focus on getting high Magic and lots of Power (the blue bar). Same as tank, if the healer doesn't do their job well, the whole party can potentially go down.
Finally, you have the DPS, or Control. These are the characters that have balanced health and power. They cause higher amounts of damage than a tank, so what they can do is focus on attacking one enemy at a time until they die, then move to another. As long as the tank is doing their job effectively, the DPS/Control should rarely be attacked. There may, however, be times that DPS/Control does get hit, either by direct attack or an AOE (area of effect) attack.
All classes are important in their roles. If one falters, it's possible everyone fails.
Each class, I believe can do a DPS/Control role. Nature and Sorcery are definetley the best healing classes, while Fire and Ice are the best Tanking. So, base decisions on roles around that.
I can't remember how many party members you can have in DCUO...I think 5, but I'm unsure. The basic set up for a 5 person group doing an instance is:
1 Tank
3 DPS/Control
1 Healer
If it's 4 members, just decrease DPS/Control by 1.
In bigger alerts, you might have to have 2 tanks and 2 healers. These would be 10-member alerts. These are the most challenging, yet the funnest. You will get the best gear drops from these, but I think you can't do these until level 30. I'm level 22 atm and can't wait to get to 30.
Hope this helps bud.

I got rid of mine. Got really bored with it.
fyi it's up to download. gotta search dc universe. 122mb download then like a 15 gig download in game, so let that shit run over night.
come the fuck on. i create my character, and i swear to fucking god 2 seconds after starting, where it says destroy the door or something, the stupid game freezes. that was my biggest problem with the beta. why can't they fix that, i don't understand

Shit is BROKEN. I spent almost an hour creating the perfect character. A Brawler with a mohawk named TheBlackWolf, and try to get into the game and it keeps saying "invalid subscription."

I've played it like ten times. You just suck too much to get on. And ostensibly, Kalyx is playing this game, so that should tell you how much you suck.

Haven't been on since launch month. So this is the part where you say it was a joke I'm taking too seriously or something.

Nope.
I mean, it was a joke, but also a deliberate shot at you.
The notion that even you could get on despite quality control, but D Mac couldn't, is an intended shot at both. The difference being, in D Mac's case, it's done with affection.
I normally wouldn't bother to explain that much, but you did seem to think that the fact you hadn't logged on since launch month somehow changed anything. Seemed you were even slower on the uptake than normal.
Plus, we're now getting off the topic of how much D Mac sucks.

In this case, I do kid. It's not particularly awesome, but I wouldn't call it shit.
