Anyone in a Duke jersey. It's such a fantastic system (though I really don't like them) that players like Chris Duhon, Shelden Williams, and J.J. Redick look like they're something special, but they will inevitably flop once they go pro.

I beg to differ. Although i HATE Duke, they have had plenty of players do very well in the NBA. Grant Hill is the first to come to mind. He was definately on his way towards NBA Elite status until he started having problems with his ankle, Carlos Boozer is having a tremendous season, Bobby Hurley was doing pretty well in the NBA until his car accident, Laettner has done o.k., and Jay Williams was a star on the horizon until his accident. Hold on a second, is their a recurring theme here? If i was a basketball star, i wouldn't want to go to Duke.

See? I said they'd "inevitably flop." They may have a good season or two (or four or five), but the Duke Karma catches up to them before they can be greatness.

Duke players dont necessarily suck I mean look at Elton Brand
but there has never been an NBA superstar that played at Duke

Basically, I think that Duke has just got a hard reputation to live up to. They are so good in the college ranks, and then most of their players just end up being average/role players in the NBA. If you look at it though, all the All-Stars in the NBA come from totally random places, most from high schools, but like AI from Georgetown, Shaq is like LSU or something. Just basically Duke is expected to put out amazing players, but Dukes guy are no worse then guys from Kentucky, Arizona, Maryland, UCLA, other perennial good teams (for the most part).

Chris Duhon
Daniel Ewing is the only guy on Duke that has any type of chance in the pros i think, possibly Williams if he goes Boozer
That guy from Vermont, I cant remember his name, a ton of people where on his nuts after he dropped 43 (or maybe that was just around here since I am close to Vermont) Anyway that big stiff got shut down by UConn today

Random Schools = Georgetown (Iverson), LSU(I think Shaq?), Syracuse (Carmelo), Mich St (Weber), I honestly can't think of any more big stars right now that went to college, most are from high school or foreign. But just what I meant was that the schools are perennially good at basketball tend to spit out more pro's, but teams like the ones listed above randomly spit out the guys who make it really big.
It makes sence though, if you want to be a real good player individually, you go to a team where you will be the star instead of just another player. The perfect example is Kris Humphreys, he was signed to go to Duke, but realized he wouldn't get as many touches so he decided to go to Minnesota, now he is the Big 10's leading scorer and rebounder as a freshman, I guarantee he wouldn't have done that for Duke. Its just how it works.

I remember Humphrey did something dumb when he took back his commiment to Duke or some shit...I remember reading about it at another message board.
Anyways I can KINDA see what you are saying, I don't think what school you go to directly effects if you are gonna make it to the NBA or not. I mean either you are good enough or you aren't...the shit just works out in the end. And I wouldnt consider Gtown, 'Cuse, and Michgian (where Webber came out of..not MSU) random schools. LSU I can see I guess. I am thinking more of a random school would be St. Joes right now since they are usually a unheard of team. Gtown 'Cuse and Michigan are all in "big time" conferences and they all do well...LSU plays in a "big time" conference but you never really hear much about them
BCWWF

But name other all-star players who came from those schools I listed as "random."
What I am saying is that Duke is expected to put out the best pro's because they are the best in college, but what happens is they put out a bunch of quality players (Battier, Williams, Boozer, Dunleavy right now) and don't get any respect, while a school like Georgetown puts out AI and nobody else really noteworthy (Im sure someone will prove me wrong here). So basically its just random, like Stima said the school doesn't really effect if you will be a superstar or not, but I just think it is coincidence that a Shaq or Allen Iverson hasn't come out of Duke lately.

Gtown had Ewing who is up there for one of the greatest ever at the college level, he was nasty at GTown
Michigan had Jalen Rose plus Juwan Howard..they played there with Webber during the Fab 5 years
'Cuse has Derek Coleman as well as a few others. Elton Brand came out of a Duke, and hes an all star caliber player. I just think the Duke players get a lot of love while in college since they are a highly covered team through the nation due to the fact that Duke is a great team and runs a good system. Samething goes for "Guys are nasty at Duke but then arent very good in the pros" that happens to EVERY game..I can name a TON of players from a ton of schools who are nasty but then never do shit in the NBA..its just the fact that Duke is so highly covered I think.
I am not really sure what your point is here though?

I agree. Duhon is actually from my hometown and has never impressed me. You are exactly right about Duke players flopping once going pro, with the exception of Elton Brand and Boozer. I don't think Duhon will even get drafted. I've watched him play since high school and there is nothing special about his game. I don't even know who those other guys are.

How could you say that these schools are random schools? If you said something like Rhode Island (Lamar Odom, Cuttino Mobley) or Cal (Jason Kidd, Shareef Abdur-Rahim), then you'd make some sense. Or maybe McNeese State (Joe Dumars) or Louisiana Tech (Karl Malone, P.J. Brown)or Santa Clara(Steve Nash). A "random school" to me is a school which is not a perennial NCAA tournament going team. All the schools you listed have, when the players listed were there, were among the top programs in the country.
