This match would have meant so much more to me if it happened in '98/'99.

Didn't watch WCW but Pillman's interference confused me because I thought he and Austin were tag partners, must have been before they formed.

after I would imagine. I think this set up the PPV where they had the Thunderdome Cage match with Pillman/Sting and Rhodes vs Rude/Austin and Orndorff. I think one of the Superbrawl's.

The story between Pillman and Austin was that Col Robert Parker started hanging around Austin when Pillman was injured. Pillman attacked Parker when he returned and Austin went after Pillman, ending the team.

I love it because it's such a simple match, and yet its so effective. The majority of it is just wrist locks and head lock take downs and reversals, but their intensity and focus on the competitive aspect of the match make it work so beautifully.

It's the difference between the sneer on Austin's face as he throws Sting into a headlock/rear chin lock and the look of indifference on Orton's face while he does the same to Cena that makes the difference between a good match and a match.
