Typical
A guy who is the same age as a guy like hogan but puts in 10 times the effort.
I doubt this report is true unless he has done something serious.

Mr. JL
03-18-2004, 05:58 PM
Yeah, I don't know if its true or not, but the rumur is out there.

I always liked Faarooq though so it kinda stinks. I always thought if the WWE gave him a push like they did in '96 that he'd actually be a upper mid-card guy. I will miss his killer spinebusters!

Might wanna put a spolier note in since he got fired on TV this week too.

Mr. JL

Meh... I'm canadian! Its our job to piss off America.

Examples:

1) not following America to war
2) bad mouthing them via United Nations
3) ALMOST legalizing marijuana...and America didn't like that
4) ALMOST legalizing same sex marriages licenses...they didn't like that either
5) Better looking
6) Ruining Smack Down! for them

And the list goes on

Are you serious? WGTT was better than APA since the first day the started almost.

APA were nothing special, but i'll admit that they were good at the limited amount of things they did do. they had decent in ring psychology too. But i don't think this is any major loss.

Ya, Faarooq was always way cooler than Bradshaw. The Dominator was a vicious move.

WTF?

Why didn't they just fire both of their worthless asses?

-edit-

I figured it out. It probably went something like this:

Vince: We need to do something about this APA problem. They're not over and I don't have any kind of a program for them after the roster switch.

JR: Well, why don't we just let them go?

Vince: BOTH of them? Like I'm going to just hand over the Acolyte Protection Agency to NWA-TNA! No, no, just fire one of them.

JR: Well, which one?

Vince: I don't care! The black one!

JR: His name is Ron Simmons.

Vince: Whatever.

Um, ok, we do all realize that Simmons was coerced out of retirement by Vince to help flesh out the tag team division on Smackdown, and that he wasn't expected to be with the company following WMXX? Right???

Right. It's still disappointing to see the more-talented half of a team that's been shoved down our throats leave. Now we're stuck with just another singles hoss.

Breaking News: Ron “Faarooq” Simmons Released From WWE Today
By Chris Walters on March 18, 2004 at 6:10 PM EST

WWE superstar Ron “Faarooq” Simmons was released by WWE today for personal reasons. In an interesting note, WWE ran a angle during Smackdown tapings on Tuesday where Simmons was "fired".

I can't figure it out though. Why was he released? What did he do? Even if the brass thought Simmons should be off TV, couldn't they have given him a position in the office? Let's just hope he's financially settled. It's a shame.

Damn, I always thought Bradshaw was better?

Depends on when you started watching Faarooq...and if you ever watched a Bradshaw match.

Ron Simmons in his WCW days and his very early WWF days was intimidating as hell.

Bradshaw...has always been pretty limited.

Faarooq has had a great career. Shit, he retired and Vince brought him back because at the time they needed the APA (I don't know why). But now his career is over (Probably). Drink One Up for Ron Simmons.

He had a great run. First Black WCW Champ.

Yeah I'll admit that i never saw him in WCW, and I barely remember him from when he first debuted in the WWE. But I do know enough to know that Ron Simmons has had a great career. I didn't mean to seem like I was disrespecting him in any way.

Although, I personally have been more entertained by Bradshaw during their run as APA than Farooq. I realize Bradshaw is a backstage asshole though despite the fact that I find him entertaining occasionally. So because he is a dick backstage with Bob Holly, I wouldn't mind seeing him go away at all either.

You gotta say tho, awesome gimmick.
I cant remember when it was, but they had to body guard another tag team (i think), and then the hardyz ran out...that was cool

Meh. He couldn't really work well in the ring anymore but it sucks to see him go. APA was still a fun tag team outside the ring. Also, Ron Simmons beating Vader for the title years ago was one of my favorite times from the old WCW. He's good people. :y:

From WWE.com

Ron Simmons released

Ron “Faarooq” Simmons has been released from WWE, effective immediately, according to the WWE Talent Relations Department.

Maybe it's just me, but the tone sounds a bit harsher than the other times people are released.

It's not just you.

It's a shame. I mean, he wasn't my favorite wrestler, and the APA aren't my fave tag team, but damn. he beats Bradshaw any day of the week.

Bradshaw is "mainstream" though with his stock tips on MSNBC or whatever. No way Vince is gonna release him over Ron Simmons.

It's kinda weird that they just release him. You'd think that he'd be put in a non-wrestling role, maybe backstage with the writing or something. It's almost like he screwed up badly or something like that.

Well, APA were getting stale, but I'd rather have Bradshaw the Stereotypical Bigoted Hick gone than a nicer guy like Ron Simmons.

Farooq was an amazing heel in the nation, and his rivalry with Ahmed Johnson was awesome too. Not sure I digged him becoming face after the Nation kicked him out, but I did like Farooq as a face in the APA.

I just wish I'd seen him in his prime.

Been released for Personal reasons could mean any number of things, IIRC though i'm pretty sure that Rons wife was ill and that was the reason he retired orginally. I'm willing to bet they are the personal reasons, he wants to spend more time with his ill wife and so he has sacrificed his job. I'm sure he's made decent money to set himself up for later in life so good luck to the guy

Well here's some more info, from Wrestlezone.com. Take it for what's worth I guess...

The reason Ron Simmons was released from WWE was actually because of a drug related issue that he refused to seek help for or even acknowledge. Some are even going as far as to say that may have been the reason for him standing up to The Big Show last week.

Simmons was also said to be very unpleasant when it came to last weekends WMXX PPV. He was ticked off that WWE would not get him a personal limo from the hotel to MSG the night of the show. He was asked to take the private bus rented by WWE for all of the superstars to ride on. Apparently that wasn't good enough for his standards though.

Faarooq was always the better half of the APA IMO. No disrespect to Bradshaw, but he really did smother Faarooq. I think the last time Faarooq used The Dominator was in like 2000. Maybe even as far as WrestleMania 2000? Four years later and the Clothesline from Hell did all the talking.

I wish Ron Simmons luck and hopes he can patch things up with WWE to return as a road agent or something. The guy as a commentator would be hilarious. Best of luck, Ron! :y:

At a recent house show in Newcastle, England, Bradshaw turned heel against John Cena. A sign of what's to come, maybe?
