Just came back home from watching the new batman movie. I loved it and especially the Joker character played by Heath Ledger. He did an awesome job and hence I would like to dedicate this thread to him. Rest in Peace and thank you.

Ledger was amazing. Like, unbelievably fantastically amazing. But Mark Hammil is still number one in my heart.

Best scene in the movie, possibly.

That moment lets you know right off the bat who the character is in a nutshell, and what you're in store for in the next 2 and a half hours

Haven't seen the movie yet, but is it better than Jack's Joker?

Much better. Not to insult Jack, or anything. I can't think of one modern portrayal of The Joker that has been bad. To be honest, I think the character is so great that it is easy to get a brilliant Joker performance out of anyone who can get anywhere close to insane.

That being said, Ledger deserves credit. The best portrayal of the character ever, and perhaps it will remain the best ever.

I noticed something interesting watching TDK again last night.

Nobody ever shoots at The Joker. I mean with all of the guns and explosions and violence in this movie, no one ever points a gun at The Joker and tries to kill him.

Nolan talked about Joker being a force of nature that just blows through the movie. I guess it would be stupid to shoot at a force of nature.

apparently fox, you were out going to the bathroom or getting some popcorn during the first five minutes of the movie.

Heath made himself a legend for this.

No one else will ever match that Joker.

"Wanna know how I got these scars?

My father was a drinker. And a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual... Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. HE doesnt like that. Not one bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it, he turns to me, and he says... why so serious?

He comes at me with the knife... why so serious?

He sticks the blade in my mouth. Let's put a smile on that face! Aaaand....

Why so serious?"

I havent seen the one with Jack. So I couldent tell you if hes better.

But the Joker in this movie is my new favorite villian/character in any movie. Ledger is the man.

You know, I think this will make people understand how well Ledger played the Joker.

If you didnt know it was Ledger, you wouldnt have known it was an actor.

I cant even describe with words how well Heath played the Joker, it was so convincing, the lips smacking, the smugness, the smile, teh look, the make-up, the eyes, the body, the way Heath moved during parts of the screens, sort of a stalker in plain site.

I must sound like an idiot, but wow.

Shadow
07-22-2008, 01:19 AM
Exactly. Heath Ledger was no more then the body the used to bring the Joker from the comics to the big screen. Nothing more and nothing less. If you did not know it was Ledger in that movie, you wouldn't have known it was him as the Clown Prince of Chaos.

Really, whomever wins "Best Actor" this year if it is not Heath needs to give it to him. There is NO performance that will make an audience forget they are watching an actor like this.

Heath completely let himself go and the Joker come in. That is a rare quality these days as ever actor seems to just play themselves in movies anymore. Well besides maybe Johnny Depp.

Depp's prolly the only one left of this caliber since ledger's gone.

Seriously, it wasn't suicide. He accidentally overdosed on sleeping pills. Every interview I've seen about him says that he had a lot of fun playing the role. Even one I saw with him he said it was the most fun he's ever had acting.

Jack fucking Nicolson to you.

Seriously people, they both played what they were asked to play brilliantly.

The comparisons are stupid, as they are completely different. Jack was a beast in the first batman film, as Heath is in this one.
Obviously you can enjoy one more, as most will. Heath's version was set as the more realistic version of the Joker's true character.

Mr. Monday Morning

Disagree.

Jack played Jack, just with a bit more makeup. Ledger played the Joker.

U-Warrior

Yeah, I always saw it as Jack Nicholson playing the joker. But with heath, when I watch it, I'm not seeing it as heath playing the joker. You just see the Joker.

Very rare that a character plays a part so well, that you forget there is an actor behind it. I was actually saying the same thing as zen before I saw the movie, but Ledger's Joker is so good, that I think you can say that Ledger did a better job.

Which is not a knock on Nicholson.

McLegend
07-26-2008, 12:06 PM
Heath Ledger was pretty much unrecognizable. Jack has the Joker was pretty much making fun of himself.

Also Jack Nicolson in the Departed is pretty much the Joker without the white face.
