I don't use just one thing for both.

I use DVD Shrink (free download off the Internet) for copying and Cyberlink's Power Producer for converting .avi's to .vob's and burning (only because I got the software for free when I first bought my PC) but, am keen to hear from others what they use.

DVD Shrink is easily the best DVD copying program and yeah it's free.

Converting AVIs to DVD is kinda annoying. I have only done it once cause it took like 3 hours. I converted an MPEG to DVD a few times using Power Producer though also and it was pretty fast. Dunno about AVI though.

I use Canopus Procoder 3 for converting, it never fails and although there are faster conversion programs out there I have found Procoder to be the best. For editing I use Power Director, because it's easy to use and pretty much does everything.

For copying I use Clone DVD, it shrinks and burns all in one.

Also - everything on the internet is free...

The only problem with DVD Shrink is that they stopped supporting it a few years ago. So some DVDs with new protection might not copy well with it. Instead of going for just DVD Shrink, get RipIt4Me. It's a program that runs a series of small programs (including DVD Shrink). You can either try and rip it straight from DVD Shrink or go through and remove protection with DVD Decrypter. It has a one click mode that does it all for you.

However, sometimes that's not enough too because some companies try their best to keep their stuff protected (go figure). You may need something like AnyDVD some time down the road but more than likely you will only need to run it maybe once or twice.

I don't convert files because of the length of time it takes or the lack of quality it usually draws but I know there has been some tutorials in this forum that tells you how.

Every program that i download to convert avi to vob will leave a water mark on the video, what i am looking for is a program to convert avi to vob to be able to burn a dvd that can be watched on my dvd player

Why not skip converting it to VOB and just get a program that burns the AVI to the DVD?

Didn't know that was possible. Any program you recomend, and any way to get it for free?

Here is a tutorial that Downunder posted. I've never used it but I trust that it works.
